  1. Here's a great side shot of a Mustang LX notch. Darin's does look a little bit exaggerated compared to this pic. However, let's give Darin the benefit of the doubt. I seem to recall that Darin took some actual measurements from a 1:1 LX and the angle of each pic can give a different perspective.
  2. This is a textured paint similar to the Scale Motorsports Faux Fabric line of interior paints. You are not doing anything wrong as it is the nature of the paint. If you want a smooth finish, get a different paint.
  3. I've thought about it...
  4. Thanks for the decal offer but I have those too. I'm just trying to be different and I want the "R/T" callout on the '69 Charger stripe instead of using an emblem on the front fender like the stock '68 Coronet R/T.
  5. You're close. I'm thinking something along the lines of Steve Strope's Petrol Charger. It has dual carbs but looks the part anyway, don't you think?
  6. Glad to see you got these finished for sale. Saw them in KC @ Heartland and they are awesome!!!
  7. You bet it did but it's not stopping me. See my thread that I started last night. As for new models that I would like to see: Volkswagen Type III - notch, fastback and wagon. GM '73-77 A Bodies - Chevelle Laguna, Buick Century, Olds 442, Pontiac Grand Am, street versions of the NASCAR warriers '78-80 Chevy Malibu, Buick Turbo Coupe fastback, Pontiac Grand Am 1978 Ford Fairmont - two door sedan and Futura 1978 Plymouth Volare Super Coupe 1978 Dodge Magnum 1980-81 Dodge Mirada
  8. I've been working on this one on and off since mid summer. After grinding and filing on the El Camino last weekend, I pulled this one back out since I was in the resin grinding mode. I've worked on this one all week as I await new aftermarket parts for the '71 Cuda and the resin '72 El Camino. I got this kit from Model Roundup because Hobby Heaven was out of stock when I ordered. In hindsight, I would have been better off getting the Modelhaus version. But at that time, Modelhaus took it out of their catalog since AMT had announced a Coronet for 2007. Of the three Resin King kits that I own, this was the best one. I had to remove the hood which had been glued into the master. Also, I have had to fill numerous pinholes which has been a tedious process that is still ongoing. Lots of flash and thick resin in spots. The taillights were molded in as well. I removed them and bought clear red Modelhaus replacements. Got Modelhaus chrome too. I'm in the process of removing some chrome trim like emblems and wheel opening moldings. I'm leaving the R/T emblems on the tail and grille and will use PE or decals on the fenders. I was going to build this one curbside, but the more I've worked on the body, the nicer I have made it. So, it will become a full detail build. Going back to my roots, I'm using an AMT ex-MPC Charger metal axle chassis with a few mods. But, the interior is coming from an AMT '69 GTX which has more detail with separate door panels, etc. Speaking of the interior, I'm using the front seats from a Revell Dodge Magnum. The interior will be bare bones for performance so that means no console. I'm going to use the standard B Body instrument panel with the "sweep" speedo. But in a modern twist, Keith Marks is going to custom make me an IP decal with a white background and black numerals. Here are a couple of mock up pics... The emblems and marker lites have been shaved. Only the front and rear R/T emblems will remain. The wheel well moldings have also been removed. The rolling stock consists of Aoshima 19" Kranz LZX rims and tires. The rear wing is from a Revell '71 Hemi Cuda kit. The color will be either Duplicolor Super White or Tamiya Pure White, whichever is whitest. The wheel spokes will be black as will the six pack hood. A '69 Charger R/T bumble bee stripe will grace the rear. Enjoy the pics and stay tuned for updates on all my current projects, which now total FIVE!!!
  9. I have the Nesco/American Harvest unit that Wal-Mart sells. I purchased two extra trays and removed the centers from all of them. Using the six trays, I can fit my "soy sauce bottle" paint stands underneath. This is a good unit as it has a thermostat.
  10. The best way to contact Pace Paint Booths is by phone. The number is listed on the website, 877.872.4780. Pace is better in the long run since you can use ordinary household filters that can be purchased at any hardware store. Try getting filters for your Paasche booth locally.
  11. By the way, Bill, is the green one Tamiya Metallic Green and if so, over what base?
  12. Don't you hate it when like gets in the way of such important things LOL? Glad you're back at it. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
  13. I haven't yet but probably will soon when my LHS gets them in stock. Challenger F/C too.
  14. Like it??? I LOVE it!!! Another miniature masterpiece from the Master of Miniature!!!
  15. Cool beyond words, Lyle!!!
  16. Whatta memory!!! The ORIGINAL MPC Motorsports shop truck was/is a '68 Chevy short wide, which has been relegated to the back burner for numerous reasons. The El Camino is more befitting my style at this time. It most likely will have a rat motor under thehood, thanks to Steve Milberry. My resin chassis is pretty rough and he offered to send me an original chassis from an AMT '69 Elky builder he has.
  17. You got that right. I spend untold minutes if not hours grinding, filing and sanding. But the results will be worth it. There is a part of my creative side that enjoys doing this on occasion... By the way, those two Elkys are sweet builds. I hope mine turns out as nice.
  18. G&J, IMHO, the Ask G&J Column should stay. While those of us that are connected to the web can get an answer to nearly any model related question in a matter of minutes, there are a great number of modelers that for any number of reasons do not use the internet in tandem with the hobby. This is a source of information for THEM, not us lunatic fringers. My favorite columns include "What's New", Jairus' Sketchpad, and contest coverage. Build projects of any subject are a plus, even if they take several issues to cover.
  19. Stopped by Advance Auto Parts on my way home from work to get wiper blades for my Scion. While there, I had to go check out the paint. This can came home with me... I do not remember who suggested Dark Green but it will work. The color is called "Medium Green Metallic". It will also get some white SS stripes and a tan interior. I've been wanting to do a tan interior for a long time. I may tone down the "bling" on the rims by painting the spokes gunmetal. More to come...
  20. You might recall from earlier postings how I mastered these taillights from the Revellogram 1:24 scale chrome parts. The MPC '71 Cuda annual (and Johan Cuda) have a clear red taillight with a molded in backup lens. I drilled and filed out the molded in piece and modified the Revell parts to fit. The new pieces were sent to Reliable Resin for casting in clear and clear red resin. Here's a before pic: During: After: Enjoy!!!
  21. I think I need to get my ADD meds refilled...NOT!!! I've never seen one of these built and I doubt many of you have either. So this one will take up residence next to the Cuda in the MPC Motorsports shop. I went to the LHS on my way home from work and got some rims for the El Camino. Hoppin Hydro Bellagios...twenties in the front and matching Monster 24s in the rear. Yes, their big and not everyone's cup o' tea but it's my build and you know how I roll. I'm widening the rear rims with some Evergreen strip so I can fit some wider Pegasus 23" tires on the back. Steve Milberry offered me an original kit chassis to replace the rough resin one. This way, I can put an engine under the hood and not be too ashamed of the look when the hood is off. Now to come up with a killer paint job with some SS stripes and a monster big block under the hood. Perhaps I'll use the supercharged unit from the '68 Elky street machine. Enjoy...I am!!!
  22. I'm using the rear pan from the yellow AMT Snap Fast Cuda kit as it fits the rear of my '71 annual better than the original part. What I've done here is opened up the exhaust with a drill and needle files. I used my panel scriber to define the opening a little bit more. The plan is to BMF the exhaust tips once the pan is painted and wash in some black around the "opening" of the pan. Enjoy!!!
  23. One in the same, Steve. Dragin Plastic is one of several Ebay names they used back in the day.
  24. On Monday, I bought two AMT Concept Camaro kits with 50% off coupons at Michaels. Tuesday, I received a Jimmy Flintstone '72 El Camino resin kit that I won on Ebay. Started to clean the flash on it too. Modeler's ADD has been real bad lately!!!
