  1. AMT should definitely bring this back. A quarterly glossy publication with tips and tricks and special offers? a "Kat from AMT" Kustomizing contest? Sounds right up Round 2's alley!
  2. Looks good, but it's a little disappointing that the company that made their reputation on the Enthusiast series would see fit to tool up a new Lamborghini with a one-piece engine bay. Now get off my lawn, you darn kids!
  3. Not a problem. I build what I want, when I want, and for me. The few occasions I've built models for others (a replica of my friend's old Beetle, for example) it's been as a gift, and a surprise present at that. I try to incorporate at least one new trick or technique into every build and change up my building style and subject matter from time to time. And if anything, I tend to overvalue my expertise!
  4. Wow. This is the best integration of the kit's fadeaway fender pieces I've seen so far. The new roofline is great too- I've noticed that the roofline in the new kit doesn't "flow" from front to rear like it should, and your chop definitely addresses that. Just... wow.
  5. Well, Bill, you sure do have some entertaining build threads! Most modelers tend to give up on projects that frustrate them, leading to those threads that just sort of peter off into nothingness, but you just work your way through (case in point- your yellow Austin 7) and come out the other end with some excellent builds. Can't wait to see this done, if it takes a month or another year!
  6. It's definitely going to be interesting to see one of these MFH kits built up. I don't think I have either the patience or the bankroll to see one through!
  7. Thanks for the compliments, guys. Bill, I was blown away by that Impala convertible when I saw it all over the magazines back in the day- the detail work on this thing is fantastic!
  8. I have a few kits I've held onto long enough that they might be considered "vintage"... I still plan on building them, though!

  12. Oooooh, a Stratos. I've been kind of thinking about bashing up one of these using the Hasegawa body and the Revell Ferrari F430 to represent the one-off modern Stratos that was built last year off of a shortened F430 floorpan. (see pic below) Definitely going to be following this one!

  14. My favorite part of this "pro-built" model is that the "pro" applied the kit number from the decal sheet to the tailgate. Darn it, if it was on that sheet, it was meant to go on the model!

  17. I'll bite the tip of a round toothpick to flatten it out and separate the fibers of the wood into a sort of "brush". It gets down into the panel lines and really lifts the polish/wax out.
  18. Phil's is pretty good. He used to do a model car show until a few years ago. The local shop here (Naples) is an unfortunate combination of poorly-stocked and ridiculously expensive.
  19. The Paasche VL is a good choice, but $109.99? You should be able to find that brush online for about half that. Paasche H is an excellent beginner's choice, too.
  20. Peter, I'm only a couple of miles away- Golden Gate, off of Santa Barbara. With your scratchbuilding skills (that Timbs Streamliner is AMAZING) fabricating a Carson top should be a piece of cake!
  21. Verrry nice- I like the stance. by "the bells are from Michael's" do you mean the intake trumpets? And if so, are they actual bells? Where do they have them?

  23. I like the idea of doing a Tudor sedan- you never see that body style in scale.
  24. Good job so far, Peter. I actually did something like this a few years back with the Revell kit- it's wearing a Modelhaus resin Carson top (with modifications, of course) for the '50 Ford. To get everything to work right, I grafted in the tulip panel and windshield header from the Ford. I like the idea of a modern custom for yours!
  25. A little change of plan... I finessed out the remaining minor bodywork issues using Duplicolor red oxide primer and decided I really liked the color. It's still going to get painted flames in white and light blue or turquoise- in fact, I might get a little more ambitious on the flames than I had originally planned. Motor and wheels will be painted light blue or turquoise to match the flames. I've started mocking up the frame-to-engine fit and the ride height- pics on that later. In the meantime, here are some pics of the primered body. This was the first time I used the technique of brushing liquid cement over shaved moldings to prevent "ghosting"- I was amazed by how well it worked!
