  1. Breathtaking work so far, but I agree with Bill about that windshield. It actually looks a bit like a vintage speed boat with the height and lack of rake. Maybe a frameless wrap-around windshield?
  2. IT'S GREEN! Next up I'll fog some highlights along the fenders and bodyline crease in white and blend them with candy green. I'm also going to do an asymmetrical stripe over the top of the car. The base color is Testors Mystic Emerald lacquer airbrushed. The color is pretty intense. there's a lot of flake in there that really "pops".
  3. Stalled builds, hmmm? I've got a few that fit into this category... 1936 Ford, Monogram 1:24 scale bashed together with the Boyd Smoothster. MCG LaSalle grille, RMCM DuVall windshield. I have the bodywork about done, but haven't started priming yet. AMT '49 Ford coupe- Chop done (beautifully, if I do say so myself), side trim removed, and wheelwells radiused. Still trying to decide whether to do it shiny or suede. Still needs some filler and bodywork before primer. AMT '51 Chevy coupe- Top chopped, rear fenders extended, Modelhaus Buick grille. Very rough at this point- probably a few months' worth of work to get it finished. I'm probably going to pick up the '49 Ford for this CBP. I've been wanting to do something in a satin metallic and this might be the perfect build for that- I'll think I'll start playing around with this as soon as I'm done with my custom Avanti.
  4. A Hirohata squarebird, huh? Nice!
  5. That's going to be a mean-looking Loewy coupe. Can't wait to see it with the Carrera Panamerica decals.
  6. GREAT color. This is looking fantastic.
  7. Thanks for the link, Manuel. I definitely needed some photo reference on this motor!
  8. I got caught up reading the build thread for this the other day- epic. This is extremely cool.
  9. Mike, it's going to have the kit's twin Paxton superchargers, but it will all be under the hood. I dunno, Rob. I kind of like the weird parabolic wheel openings. The 'Vette idea isn't bad, though.
  10. If you mount the intercoolers like the one on the right, that leaves you room for a couple of big NACA ducts in the hood for cooling. Have fun plumbing all that!
  11. Progress continues (slowly) on this build... I've attached the doors and blocked and filled the body- on this build I think a straight body trumps opening doors and it would be pretty tough to have both on this model. Door lines and a new trunk line were scribed. I have begun test-fitting the interior, which will need some styrene inserted in front of the separate door panels to close up some gaps. I don't see a lot of custom work going into the interior- the Avanti's interior was already more radical than many customs of the day. Interior color will probably be medium brown with cream piping. I removed the rear bumper brackets and am in the process of filling them- I also think the plate holder will go from an "outie" to an "innie". Still trying to decide if I want to keep the door handles- I think they're probably going to go. The top is definitely staying.
  12. The fastback is interesting, but I don't know if it will still "feel" like a '57 Chevy. Good work on the section, though- you're a braver man than I am!
  13. This is going to be wild. You should be able to relocate those intercoolers to bring the height of the engine down.
  14. Some interesting ideas going on here...
  15. The '62 'Vette and '55 Chrysler would be enough for me. The Olds and the Rat Roaster are just icing on the cake.
  16. Hmmm, the latest issue of the '58 T-Bird has those Holiday caps...
  17. There we go, and one more...
  18. More as soon as I figure out how to post pics from Photobucket.
  19. I've always rather liked the Studebaker Avanti. It's a cool-looking car and the story behind it (once-great manufacturer, on its way down the tubes, throws one last "hail mary" by building a fiberglass sports car) is fantastic. I picked one up at the show in Ft. Lauderdale last Saturday for a pretty good price, so I figured I'd build one up. I've replaced the "bubble" rear window with a flat trunklid and have added styrene to create a "flying buttress" roofline. I also removed the "B" pillar (which housed an integrated rollbar on the 1:1, so there goes all my rollover protection!) and created a hardtop side window line. The front end will feature the kit's square '64 headlights. I am on the fence right now about whether to remove the roof between the windshield header and the 'C" pillar. The targa look would be cool, but the roofline is really nice the way it sits now. Wheels will probably be Monogram Borranis with narrow whitewalls. Color will probably be pale yellow with Inca Gold and white fades designed to accentuate the curve of the fenders. It's all raw styrene now, so enjoy the first pics. Any comments, suggestions, etc. are always welcome.
  20. Pretty wild. The headlight mounts are a great idea!
  21. This is so choice- the color combination, detail and body mods are just perfect.I did something similar with my '32 Vicky -combined the AMT body with sections from the Revell Speedwagon to correct the profile. I was going to do the same with a Phaeton but I probably couldn't top this one... amazing!
  22. This is a great kit-I have probably bought about ten of the three body styles of this kit for building and bashing. They just re-released the highboy- go out and get some more! If they all turn out as great as this one, it was money well spent.
  23. Man, is this thing clean! The flames on the hood are a perfect touch.
