I picked up this advent calender from Jay's Resin Wheels on eBay. I thought it would be fun to post every day as I open them. It has 12 days, I'll start opening them on the 14th so I can open the last one on Christmas. I'm starting this post early in case anyone wants to get one too. https://www.ebay.com/itm/226427161355 It cost $120, so $10 for each item. It's supposed to have 3 engines and 9 sets of wheels. I've gotten a few sets of wheels from them in the past and they were all good quality. It came in a pretty nice box. I'll be posting the 1st item on the 14th, so follow along if you'd like to see what's in it.

Thanks. I don't know much about drag racing so I had to look it up. A factory XLR curb weight is 3,647lbs and it has the 409 from the '54 Chevy kit, so that would put it in B class, but if the builders were able to shave about 800lbs, that would put it in A class.

I made this XLR gasser from a Jimmy Flintstone body, the chassis from a '54 Chevy and a bunch of stuff from my parts box.

We had a couple days of painting weather and I was able to get the body painted. It's going to need some touch ups, but it came put pretty good. More next time. -

2024 Cannonball Run "Resto-mod" Official Finished Builds
avidinha replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
#18 Ferrari 512BB This kit is 1 of 6 in a series of Cannonball Run kits so I thought it would be fun to enter it in the community build this year. The kit came with opening doors and bonnet, working pop up headlights, poseable steering and even seatbelts. I upgraded it by eliminating the vent Windows in favor of 1 piece door glass, the brakes are from a 360 Modena and the wheels are from an F430. -
My brother-in-law picked this up for me at a resale shop. It's not really my thing so I wanted to see if anyone wanted to trade. Some of the parts are off the trees, but it's all there. The glass is surprisingly un-scratched, I put it in a bag to keep it from getting any scratches. Here are the kits I'd consider in trade: Revell '49 Mercury custom coupe Revell James Bond Aston Martin Aoshima stock Delorean Hasegawa Ferrari Testa Rossa 250

A Team van

I brush painted the red on the wheels and used a 1mm Molotow chrome pen on the lug nuts. Then I mounted them and the tires. The seats aren't glued in yet, I was just mocking them up. I also got the body out of the purple pond and back in primer. I probably won't have any more updates until spring, I've gotten about as far as I can get without having the body painted. -

Yup, that's exactly it. I don't have a booth and I don't really have a place for one. It took my a while to get used to the new climate. I used to live in Houston where, as long as it wasn't raining, it was pretty much painting weather all year. -

I masked off the roof and started on the red stripe. Unfortunately when I pulled some of the masking tape up, it pulled up some of the red paint with it, so into the purple pond she went. Winter has set in, so I won't be able to paint anything until April. I got the black on the wheels. I'm planning on hand painting the red, so I should be able to get a rolling chassis soon. I was also able to get some color on the bumpers/grill and spoiler. More next time. -

I got some more done on the van. I got the belly pan painted, gray on top, semi gloss black on the bottom. I got the engine together, but I just couldn't get it to fit between the frame and engine cover. I'll probably just leave it out since the hood doesn't open anyway. It never hurts to have another small block Chevy in the parts box. I went ahead and mounted the chassis to the belly pan and painted the other interior pieces. It only came with 2 seats, but the A Team van has 4 seats, I'm going to check my parts box for a couple seats that match. I also went ahead and painted the many fog lights gloss black with some chrome paint to simulate the lenses. Once the chrome is properly dry, I'll go over the appropriate sets with some clear yellow. We're going to have some nice weather over the weekend, then snow on Tuesday. I'm hoping I can get some paint done before it snows. More next time. -

I got the chassis painted semi gloss black and assembled. I also got the engine assembled and painted. I'm just going to build the engine box stock. The hood doesn't open and I'm not planning on cutting it open. I forgot to sand the trim off the body before I glued the fender flares on. It made it a little harder, but I was still able to do it. I'm hoping to get the body painted before winter sets in and it's too cold to paint. More next time. -

Thanks! Yes, that's right. I was excited to see the small hubcaps, they're perfect for a project I'm working on. -
I'm building a replica of the A Team van from the original 1983 release. I got it from EBay a few years ago. It's pretty beat up, but still sealed. Everything inside is in pretty good shape considering how the outside looked. It's so old that the metal axle is rusted. The windshield was resting against the side of the box so it's a little scratched up, but I think I can polish it out. I was surprised by how many extra parts it came with. It even came with a B. A. figure. I'm going to swap out the tires for some from my parts box that already have the white letters on them. Still not correct for the 1:1 van, but better that what it came with. More next time.

I built this replica of the El Camino from the movie El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. I used the Revell lowrider kit with wheels from a Revell Z28 and seats from a Corvette. I made the license plate, everything else came in the box.
-
I built this replica of the Monte Carlo from Training Day from an old promo. The wheels are from EBay, the tires are from Revell, the White wall decals are from Pegasus, and the knockoffs and plate frames are from Hopin' Hydros. I lowered the suspension, added a screen correct steering wheel and made the plates.
-
I built this from a resin body and a Revell Merc Woody as a donor kit. I lowered the suspension a bit. The hubcaps are resin, but I can't remember where I got them. I discovered that if you turn the Mercury hood ornament upside down, it almost looks like the Cadillac Flying Goddess hood ornament.

Thanks. And thanks again for the plates.

Thanks. The hood was one of the reasons it went back in the box. I used mod podge to glue the grill and hood sides on so I could manipulate them into position until I got them just right as the glue slowly dried.
-
I built this from an AMT kit. I modified the kit grill, used wheels from an AMT '34 Ford and Bill (Spencer1984), probably doesn't remember because it was so long ago, made me a copy of the plate he made for his. This is one of those builds that kept driving me nuts and I kept putting it back in the box. To give you an idea of how long it took me to actually finish, it was in one of the checkerboard patterned Walmart exclusive boxes that I bought new. So if it looks like it's been sitting around for a while, that's because it has been.

Does anyone have the decals from the Revell '49 Mercury Wagon they'd be willing to trade? I really just need the wood decals for the body. Thanks.
-
I built this for the Cannonball run community build. I found this kit at my LHS and thought it would be fun to use for the cannonball build. It even came with a map of the route. Because the theme was restomod I upgraded the wheels, tires and brakes from a more modern Ferrari and eliminated the vent Windows. This kit is very well detailed for a former motorized toy. It has opening doors and headlights, the seatbelts came with the kit, it even has an opening bonnet with engine detail and posesable steering. Some of the parts were a bit fiddly, but it went together well for the most part.

2024 Cannonball Run Restomods Build Thread
avidinha replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
#18 I was able to get the body on and the last few bit put on to finish up the 512BB. I was nervous getting the body on but it came out okay. The kit came with filler pieces for the rear of the door jams. The last pieces were the exhaust tips. They just kinda glued on to the under body and didn't really attach to the rest of the exhaust. But once you turn the car over, you can't really tell. And hears a completed picture with all the opening parts open. The doors were hard to get open once the body was attached so when I close them to take the rest of the pictures, they'll probably stay closed. Here's a link to the finished thread. -

#18 The glasses with my new prescription came in, so I was able to get a little more work done on the 512BB. The doors are hinged with a metal pin that goes through the hinge on the door and into the floor then the top of the pin is captured with the dashboard. I also got the pop up headlight assemblies attached. They have switches that stick through the bottom of the model so they can be opened and closed. All I have left to do is install the main body onto the rest of the model. Hopefully I can get everything to line up properly. More next time. -
I just finished this one box stock from the Aoshima kit. The paint is Rustoleum color shift. And here are my Liberty Walk builds together.
