Hello, Last time, we were here: I forgot to take a pic of the primer ready for color. But basically, I don't move forward until the primer is perfectly even and smooth. I sand it smooth to an almost polished finished. I used Plastikote T235 followed by a coat of Cobra Colors Moon Mud primer. I have seen top end shops applying colored primer between the initial primer and color. What I did was to lay a very light color coat that will be the foundation for all other color coats. I also did something different this time: I "spot painted" the areas I know are succeptible to rub throughs while polishing. I am usually very aggresive in polishing, resulting in rubbing thru clear, paint and primer and having to start all over again. These areas are the door handles, A pillars, wheel well bulges (both back and front), fuel filler door and the back hatch ridge. I will now start color coats, but since this is red plastic, I'll take it very Very VERY easy to slowly build up color and prevent any bleeding. Gray, Can you order the Zero paints from Hiroboy? Can they be shipped to the US? or do you know a local supplier? I believe they are in England. I'm curious because they seem to be lacquer, since they recommend automotive lacquer clear, yet the bottles look like plastic...... Thanks,

How about these wheels? These Pegasus wheels are supposed to be 23 inches or so in 1/25. The tires were replaced with meatier ones also from Pegasus but I don't know the details since I traded them with a friend. Thanks,

As for the reflections, well, polishing is 40% art, 40% science, 1% luck and 9% Black Magic I plan to write a tutorial on my polishing process, but basically using a polishing kit and doing your homework in prep work. As for the lug nuts, I was going to order some miniature screws but it was going to delay the project and I don't really plan to be taking them in and out frequently, so I ended up using wire. And yes, those Tamiya kits are excellent! For brief moments I'm getting the idea of getting another and converting it to a targa regular 996 911... hmmmmmmm Thanks,

Hello, Back in late 2006 I went thru a little car modeling slump. I'm now getting back up to speed, but I'll do one more "practice run" before getting back to my beloved Corvettes. Having finished the GT3, I'm in a Porsche mode This is the Fujimi Cayman S. I did a brief description in the New Kits section back in January. I really and honestly plan to do a box stock build out of this. Here's the body out of the box: Yikes! Bright red plastic. The concern is bleed thru, especially since I'll use a light color. The key to fight bleeding? patience and prep work. In Primer. Only problem so far: The rear spoiler was broken. I glued it back and of course need to sand and prep the seam. Panel lines were a bit shallow so I spent a lot of time deepening them. Notice the difference between the yet to be done gas filler door and the door trim. Next: More primer and sanding. Once the primer is perfect, then and only then I'll work with the color. Thanks,

Hello! Yes I know what you are thinking: This is not a Corvette, and this is not exactly the most popular subject in the modeling community. I KNOW! But: I am not just a Corvette guy, I'm a car guy. Back in late 2002 I had the privilege of been invited to test the whole line of Porsche cars in a racetrack. I always liked these sports cars, but after driving them like if they were stolen, I now have a much greater appreciation for them. I build this as a car you would race on the weekends, but drive it to and from the track and use it as "mere transportation" every once in a while. Let's start with the pictures first and then the details of the build. This is a curbside build. This is my favorite picture NO, No, no you fool! HA! - Cobra Colors Cobalt Blue authentic Porsche color - Carbon fiber spoiler, mirrors and transaxle pan - blue tinted windshield top - home computer generated Brembo logos for the calipers - PR emission inspections and license plate (so it CAN be used on the street) This is box stock build except for the following: - Modified bumper, headlight and headlight covers to replicate a 2003 model year - mesh grille in the front bumper to stop track debris - Mandatory tow hook for track usage - Soldered brass roll bar - leather wrapped foam core padding - Five point harness with PE hardware (one locked, one loose) - Computer generated GT3 emblems - Scratchbuilt inside door handles - machined fire extinguisher - leather seating surfaces - key in the ignition - side glass eliminated (you think I'm going to hide all that work inside???) - Drivers side rear wheel hub added studs and center nut - brake lines added - inside wheel well liner - Added lug nuts - Wheel left out of course These Tamiya kits are so nice they are a dream to work with. I really love the color. It looks somewhat similar to the Corvette's Atomic Orange. I built the snap version of the Turbine car a few years ago and the color I used was darker. I don't remember exactly but it was a Duplicolor GM color. That was when close enough was good enough. I'm insane (and shameful) posting this build next to yours but yes, I'm nuts By the way, there is one and a half ACRES of BMF in this car... Thanks,
