GREAT tribute James! Love it! Here's to the Intimidator! Feb. 18 2001: The day I stopped following NASCAR
-
Love the color....

Great start on a great looking Vette! I'll be following up this one very closely.... Thanks,
-
While I'm not a big fan of those cars in 1:1, That's a very cool build. I particularly like the color and the headers. Are those headers from the kit? Thanks,
-
Hello! Yes I know what you are thinking: This is not a Corvette, and this is not exactly the most popular subject in the modeling community. I KNOW! But: I am not just a Corvette guy, I'm a car guy. Back in late 2002 I had the privilege of been invited to test the whole line of Porsche cars in a racetrack. I always liked these sports cars, but after driving them like if they were stolen, I now have a much greater appreciation for them. I build this as a car you would race on the weekends, but drive it to and from the track and use it as "mere transportation" every once in a while. Let's start with the pictures first and then the details of the build. This is a curbside build. This is my favorite picture NO, No, no you fool! The lug nuts go AFTER the wheel is in place, not before! more pictures and details here: http://puertoriconet.com/images/porsche/gt3.htm I started with the Tamiya GT3 1/24 model, with the intention of only modifying the headlights from a 1999 to a 2003 model year. HA! - Cobra Colors Cobalt Blue authentic Porsche color - Carbon fiber spoiler, mirrors and transaxle pan - blue tinted windshield top - home computer generated Brembo logos for the calipers - PR emission inspections and license plate (so it CAN be used on the street) This is box stock build except for the following: - Modified bumper, headlight and headlight covers to replicate a 2003 model year - mesh grille in the front bumper to stop track debris - Mandatory tow hook for track usage - Soldered brass roll bar - leather wrapped foam core padding - Five point harness with PE hardware (one locked, one loose) - Computer generated GT3 emblems - Scratchbuilt inside door handles - machined fire extinguisher - leather seating surfaces - key in the ignition - side glass eliminated (you think I'm going to hide all that work inside???) - Drivers side rear wheel hub added studs and center nut - brake lines added - inside wheel well liner - Added lug nuts - Wheel left out of course These Tamiya kits are so nice they are a dream to work with. The precision and fit is so superb you have to try it at least once. As usual, your comments and feedback are appreciated. Thanks,
-
Cool! Pardon my ignorance, BUT: What's an Earnhardt bar? I stopped following NASCAR in Feb. 2001 when I realized I was not a NASCAR fan, I was a Dale Earnhardt fan

Beautiful! I still haven't started on mine. Not even decided on a color yet.

'63 Chrysler Turbine Car Update----Final Update!-6/23/07
ismaelg replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I really love the color. It looks somewhat similar to the Corvette's Atomic Orange. I built the snap version of the Turbine car a few years ago and the color I used was darker. I don't remember exactly but it was a Duplicolor GM color. That was when close enough was good enough. I'm insane (and shameful) posting this build next to yours but yes, I'm nuts By the way, there is one and a half ACRES of BMF in this car... Thanks, -
That ain't no car, that's a racing machine....!

Outstanding as usual Peter! Can you give us some hints on the weathering for that "just raced" look? A tutorial would be great. I would like to do that to a race car. Thanks, -
4 days and looks so good? HA! Just polishing my current project has taken about 2 weeks!!

Ken!! Glad to see you back! You have a great taste on wheels  I have a set of those exact same wheels. I plan on using them in the F430. Thanks,

...My elbow hurts Not the best light conditions but you get the idea. I hate orange peel There is so much still pending on this project I think it will be at least a few more weeks before it can be finished. As usual, your comments are appreciated. Thanks,

That came out nice! I'm waiting for Revell to release their version...

Cool! One of the most beautiful cars ever made!

Don't leave your model in your real car.

AAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!! That reminds me of old vinyl records with the same fate.... hmmm, that could be the right torture for my AMT Camaro Concept..... -
Beautiful! I now have their distinctive sound playing in my head
-
As simple as it sounds, I think that's one of the keys I was missing.... Your explanation is very clear. Suit me up! I'm going in!!! Thanks,
-
Mark, As a long term admirer of your work, I always look forward to your updates, even if I don't respond to all of them. But this one is special and I have to ask: Decals are my nemesis in this wonderful hobby. Yet I don't loose hope of one day having them work for me. I want to cover the rearview mirror or a modern race car in carbon fiber. I have the Scale Motorsports decals. I see you not only clearcoated the CF decals, but you also mention sanding it where strips meet. Can you elaborate on that? I think that's exactly what I need to do with the mirrors. Thanks,
-
Yup! One of my favorite builds from you..... and a grail for me

Barbo, I'll make sure the next BBQ does not conflicts with another show so you can come..... I set the date thinking NNL was the week before Thanks,
