MAN Day-cab Construction truck
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thank you all for your comments. These Italeri trucks are fun to build. -
Things may slow down a little here soon. Right now I have a lot of time at home, but will be away from home a lot in the near future. So, I need to make hay while the sun shines. Got more done on the hood. I think it may be good to go now. Added the deflectors(?) that go behind/under the headlights. I also finished up the tank on the drivers side and got the cab painted again. Interior is done also, but will post pictures another day. I did order a trailer, old issue Italeri 742 American trailer 48ft. It's starting to look like Sarge's truck.
-
Don't worry about that. I just ordered the trailer and it has every bit as much if not more work to be done to it. Some of it will require me to have parts cut out on the waterjet.
-
That is one reason I am building this Pete from another world, extreme speed and cloaking, cops can't stop what they can't see. Anyway, more progress. Lots of work left on the hood, just a rough coat to see what needs to be done. Another mock up for the record.
-
I got a little more done, was able to put a little paint down. I got the sleeper finished up and painted. The cab has a first coat on it, still some things to finish. A lot of work left on the hood, but it is getting better. I keep mocking it up so I know where I am headed with this. The trailer is a huge job and so I am getting the truck done as much as I can so make sure I have time left to finish the trailer.

More progress. One thing that is a blessing and a curse on this build is the lack of good photos. A curse because I don't have a lot to go on, but a blessing in that it does give me a little freedom to be creative because nobody can say it is wrong. I spent most of the day working on the stuff on the roof of the sleeper, adding details to the doors and sanding the hood. Still a bit more work to go on the hood, but it is at least looking more like a 379-127 hood now.

Jan 1, day off so a lot got done today. The Hood. The kit is a 378-119 and the TV truck is a 379-127. So, this was where it all starts. Lost of cutting and stretching, adding in some sheet, lots of putty and she will be good. Everything from there back now had to be changed. I moved the cab back and down to work with the new 378-127 hood. Cab mounts and crossmember were cut and relocated. I had to swap the fuel tank and the tool box as they are backwards on the TV truck as well as add scratch built steps. Also had to add to the steering shaft and the intake pipes. Exhaust will be done later. All chrome removed except from the stacks. This allowed me to assemble a lot that I would not normally do, lights, visor, etc. I also had to reshape the grill. The 378 grill is too rounded over, the TV 379 is more sharp edged. The TV truck also has a Propane tank instead of the air filter on the driver side, I don't know why other than "Hollywood", so I had to make one. Still some final details to add, but it will work. As you can see I have a lot of work left on the hood, but I did get a fair bit done today.

I already posted up a before picture taken last night before going to bed. Today I was able to get a lot done. When nothing is open, there is nowhere to go. The TV truck is a 379-127, the kit truck is 378-119. So, there is 8 in difference in the length of the hood. That is where I started as everything is based on that. I cut the hood into several parts and added 8in to the rear. I also pie cut the back of the hood to get rid of the slope that makes it a 378 and not a 379. I had to add in a bit of scrap to close the gap, a bit of putty and it will be good. This meant I had to move the cab back. I assembled the frame and then moved the cab mounts back .333in and down .078 (2mm) to make everything line up right. The steering shaft was too short, made a new one. I had to add to the intake tubes also. The kit has the tanks behind the cab under the sleeper, but the TV truck the tanks are first and have steps. So, I had to relocated those and add some scratch built steps. The TV truck also has a Propane tank on the drivers side in place of the air cleaner that is standard, Hollywood. So, I had to scratch build a propane tank, its not done, but close. Nearly all the chrome was stripped and this allowed me to put a bunch of other stuff together. Here is the mock up of my progress today:

You're not late. According to the rules you can start up to 48 hours before the end in August. you have lots of time.

O.K., that is a long title for a build, however the theme of this years Cannonball Run was movie/TV show cars/trucks and well the B.R.B.O. is for trucks too. Last year season 6 of Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D had a new twist to it. Clark Gregg who plays Agent Colson had died in season 5, but returned as a alien that was trying to save earth from the Shrike, these bird like things that were to take over the planet. Gregg plays Sarge and Sarge drives this modified 379 Pete that he brought with him through some kind of worm hole. The truck is all flat black and has a trailer that houses all the weapons and Shrike fighting hardware. The truck has a large brush guard and has the ability to cloak or turn invisible and transport to other places. Very handy for the Cannonball run. It can run flat out and no cops will ever see it. Anyway, the kit I am using is the first issue of the Italeri 378 with the flat top sleeper. No. 746. There was only one for sale in all the US that I could find, so $80 later it is mine. I know we don't start till tomorrow, but I figured I would post the pre build pictures here and then I can get going on it in the morning. And, yes, I know I will have to modify the hood to look like a 379 from the 378 that the kit has.
-
WooHoo, my kit arrived today, just in time. The following kit will be the tractor part of the Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. truck driven by Sarge. I am still looking for a trailer kit, but I have time for that.
-
Well the Pete arrived today. I still need to locate a trailer, but this will get me going for now. Can’t wait to get going on it tomorrow.
-
I look forward to seeing this build. That truck is on my dream list, just haven't ponied up to get one yet, so I will be watching you build with a little envy. I will likely be using that trailer for my build, but highly modified.

I am attempting to finish off a few projects before the end of this year. This is one. It is a MAN F2000 6x4 that started life as a high roof sleeper cab. I removed the high roof and cut the cab down by about 2 scale feet to make a day-cab. I added engine details, and a flat bed from the Dodge 700 trailer kit. A bundle of boards for a load and we are done. I had to create the roof from scratch as there is no conversion for this kit. The story is that Oakland Construction is growing so much that the owner decided to expand. However the UK is too expensive so he opened a branch in the Czech Republic. This is the delivery truck he is using for that location. I know the purists will find fault, I don't have a lot of knowledge of Euro trucks, but enjoy building them anyway.

What semi would you like in a kit?
Oldmopars replied to Bobcat205's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If Italeri would make some of the new American trucks, I would buy everything they make. Don't get me wrong, I love the classics, but our only hope is Italeri and Mobius. Round2 is not making anything "New" all they are doing is cleaning up old molds and re-poping old kits. I don't see anything "New" coming from them anytime soon if ever. I am not complaining about the old stuff, it is great to have that stuff back out there. I have enjoyed building stuff I could otherwise never get or afford due to collector prices. I would love to see the modern stuff made also. However, I would really like to see them made in a way that allowed for day cabs and work trucks. I would love to see more dump trucks, snow plows, fuel tankers, delivery's, etc. -
OK, count me in for this one. As it works out, I will be using one truck for 2 builds. I am going to be building a replica of the Peterbilt 379 from Marvel's Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. It is driven by Sarge (Clark Gregg) and is the truck that comes from another dimension to battle the Skrull. For the kit, I will be using the Italeri first issue of the 378 so I get the low sleeper to match the TV truck. The hood will be modified to create the 379 hood along with the cab lowering etc. The trailer I have not ordered yet, but will either be a Mobius or a old issue Italeri American trailer. It will be heavily modified to match the TV truck also. The easiest part of the built will be the paint, as the TV truck was done in flat black to give it a sinister look. The only chrome is the exhaust.

Maybe do a little cutting on one of these: Detroit Diesel 8V-92T AMT Kenworth K100 Aerodyne AMT/Matchbox Kenworth K100 Aerodyne Papa Truck AMT/Matchbox Kenworth K100 Aerodyne Hideout Truck Detroit Diesel 8V-92 AMT/Ertl GMC General AMT/Ertl Chevy Bison -
I think it looks great so far, you're doing good. My only suggestion would be to use Tamiya tape. It will help you get crisper edges and cleaner lines. I have tried to use regular masking tape and painter tape and you end up with rough edges, the Tamiya stuff gives really nice crisp lines and rarely ever gives any trouble pulling paint layers. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Italeri/AMT 378 Pete versions?
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, thank you all for your input. I had to bite the bullet and pay a little higher price, about $84 total for a No. 746 issue so I could be sure to get the correct sleeper. I could have bought a newer issue, but would have only saved $10-20 and spent hours attempting to covert the sleeper to the low sleeper I needed. I need this truck for the Cannonball Run build that starts on the first of Jan. Many hours of searching and I only found one 746 available. Now there are none. Better be worth it. -
Italeri/AMT 378 Pete versions?
Oldmopars posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So, I know that this kit has been issued several times and most recently under the AMT name. The first issue was of a light blue 378 box art. No. 746. It then had a slight update, but retained the same number. It was then reissued as No. 3857 and the box shows a Pete 379 with high top sleeper. It also had a reissue as a day cab. Now it is out again as an AMT, but the same kit. So, my question is about the sleeper. The first 2 issues seem to have the flat top sleeper and the next 2 (-daycab) seem to have the high top sleeper. Is this correct? I would like to find an issue with the flat top sleeper but I am not sure how to guarantee I get the one with the flat top. Anyone know for sure?
