ISO a '57 Ford F100 Truck Grille
bobss396 replied to bobss396's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I will take a look, thanks! Edit: He has a full cab trans kit, for $49. I have to see if he will just sell a grille. -
I had another BACK IN THE BOX! special I dug out last year. It provably had sat for a good 12 years. It is a stock car with resin wheels and the AMT wide oval kit tires. Something between the tires and wheels did not play well together. Where the 2 met was a soupy mess. The tires melted into the resin, despite the wheels being primed and painted. I've used the same paint/primer on everything, so it must have been something in the resin.

How many models are you working on at one time?

I have one shop within a few miles that is well stocked with Tamiya sprays. The next close one is a 20 mile drive. I have bought some on eBay, I look for sellers with free shipping, but the selection is sometimes limited. -

I give lacquers a little time to flash off. Otherwise I have had little bubbles form if I put it in right away. -
Explode it out and take a picture! Then jump into cleaning things. I use lacquer thinner, take care with rubber parts. I like to have spare o-rings around.

I finally got a new AMT '60 Ford truck kit... a tad bummed over the zero-frills chassis. Mainly I would like to know if anyone makes a '57 grille for the kit. I like those over what came in the kit. Thanks!

I have around 7 or 8 going on now. I try to keep parts and assemblies organized. I do a complete bench cleaning about once a week. Wash my sanding sticks, clean my files, put back plastic stock and so on. Paint, I use only lacquers and acrylic lacquers. I haven't used my dehydrator in a while, it takes up too much counter space. Right now I need to put away my painted body collection I have out on my big kitchen counter before something happens to them. -
Does anyone offer these wheels in 1/24 or 1/25?

The newer Revell Willy's is worth a look. Those build up nicely. -
I shared a ride in a '72 Torino with a 429 in it for a season. Talk about tons of torque. It handled quite well. Other drivers mentioned that big cars are harder to pass than small cars. The car got protested all the time, it was puffed and scaled more than once, always found to be legal.

I will use 3M paper in 1500 to 2500 grits. I cut it into small 1"-ish squares. I have a shallow container on my kitchen counter, all color-sanding polishing stuff. When I get new DM cloths, I cut them into 4 equal pieces and mark the grit size on the back with a Sharpie. I use 1 cloth at a time and toss 'em when they wear out or get loaded up. I use them wet, dipped in soapy water. I have a couple of 1800 and 2400 cloths I'll use dry to knock down big boogers and fly turds in paint only, never on cleared stuff.

Oh yeah, get it off ASAP and wash with a mild soap and water. -

Iceman makes up various grilles too. Well worth a look. -
I looked into building a real one with a 402 Chevy big block. Space under the hood is limited... but for a model I would go for at least a turbo charged engine.

It looks like a real car. Nice job!

One of my favorite cars, I had 3 real ones. Looks super, how did the side trim foiling go? It looks clean.

Very clean work! I tend to avoid yellows, even in industry, it is a tricky color. -
I like sanding pads in general. But on finishes, go easy. It is possible to go too far if it wraps around an edge.

Would a Salvinos GN stocker chassis stand in for a vintage MPC?

I have a couple of those around. They are nice if you can locate one. -
I've used Duplicolor white primer. I warm it up and it shoots thinner and lays down well. I like the Tamiya white too.

VCG Resins has some nice stock-ish engine kits. I used his stock 454 Chevy in my '77 GMC wrecker. Most of his engines come with options as well.

Fixable for sure, just take your time. Things like that, I set a timer. 10 to 20 minutes at a clip. This goes with polishing/ color sanding, etc
