This was a Poison Pinto rebuilder I picked up from a friend. I had some fun with it and didn't get too serious. Decals are from the Thames gasser and the SW&C Swindler Willys. Paint is Testors One Coat Lime Ice and several coats of Wet Look clear. I would love for this to be reissued someday. The 429 shotgun is really very nicely done. The scoop is just on with some double faced tape until I find something I like better. As always comments and criticisms are kindly welcome.

This is from the AMT 73 Cougar kit. It comes with a single carb intake, but a little clean up and the plennum from a tunnel ram and I was able to do a fairly respectable dual quad intake.

Sorry for your misfortune. Can I assume this should read "a lot of the plated parts of the model will need redoing"? I must agree with John. Get them off the radiator. At the least they will warp.

Classically this has been a 1/24 or 1/25 scale CBP. But with our current theme in mind, and acknowledging that there are several 1/20 scale 4x4s available that would fit this theme well, I would be fine with making an exception to the rule.

What a fantastic idea. Congrats.

However it came about, I have really learned to appreciate and embrace the trend. Mostly because they are really a low stress creative outlet. On most any "shiny" rod, you want it to look perfect. In a lot of ways, striving towards that can be a source of stress. Especialy when the model is heading towards the dip for the third time. I would imagine that would be true in 1:1 hot rodding. Lets face it, in most cases getting a hot rod running, shifting and stopping reliably is the least expensive part of the build. It's making it pretty afterward that puts a hurting on the wallet. And these days, disposable income is hard to come by.

I'm looking forward to seeing this come together.

I have a 1/24 scale Tbird project that I want a modern Ford engine for. Since there aren't any new Ford kits in 1/24, (as far as I know) what 1/25 5th/6th gen Mustang kit has the biggest engine in it? So that it would fill the 1/24 engine bay as well as possible. Thanks very much.

Also I think the rat rod genre has evolved some. The overdone rust and general shoddy workmanship trend that seemed to pop up everywhere a few years ago, seems to be going away. Patina and bare metal finishes have become more and more popular. I would say my last two are borderline rat rods.

Yeah, in the other thread someone mentioned the Accel Turbo-sonic kit. After some quick Googling, it appears that engine might have something to offer after all. A Accel Turbo-sonic setup might be doable.

The only issue I see is the edge of the yellow stripe. You could pick up some colored decal film and cut you some stripes to cover the paint break? It's a real fine build though Brent. Very nicely done.

Good point Bill. The '57s sister kit, the '56 Chevy, also has the same SBC but it comes with a standard dual quad intake as well as a blower option.

I have seen the Testors One Shots at Michaels, though a hobby shop would have everything. No. As long as the Duplicolor paint job doesn't have any major flaws, buff it out with a little auto compound. Testors One Shot Wet Look clear is pretty popular.

Like a lot of guys who build in brass and aluminum, it is a bit of a shame to paint any of the metal work. What is your plan for that?

Nope, it's working as intended. Duplicolor Color Match are lacquers and will usually dry with a dull finish. They can be polished with a little compound and then cleared for the shiny look you are after. As for the first Testors paint, if it's their standard enamel, I've never had luck with it. We both live in a humid environment, so enamels will always be a problem. Try the Testors One Shot Lacquers, Tamiya or Model Master Lacquer system. They are your best bet in our humid climate. The model lacquers though aren't the same as the Duplicolor, and will usually have a nice shine. Good luck.
