  1. Charlie that's not my work. It's just a photo I found on the web to describe what I'm planning.
  2. Allen, thanks very much for posting that. That's the very car I'll be pulling my inspiration from. Particularly that canvas trunk lid. Bill, thanks once again for your advice. I can always rely on you.
  3. I've got a '40 Ford coupe I'm planning to build as a Peking to Paris rally car, and the rules state that the engines must be original configuration, yet I'm seeing racers with dual carb intakes on a flathead. What sort of intakes were available in '40? As far as I knew it was single carb. Any help is appreciated.
  4. This is awesome. Very imaginative and well done.
  5. Excellent. I still plan to do a primer rod, but the last two I set aside for it, I ended up painting or weathering. I'll think of something.
  6. Thanks very much guys.
  7. I have a '40 Ford coupe build planned as a racer from the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge. Mud seems to be a requirement based on the pics I have seen. I've used real dirt and rough paint semi-successfully in the past but now I want to hit this out of the park. Whats the best way to do this. I'm sure the militrary modelers got some sort of trick for this.
  8. Agreed. Welcome.
  9. Very impressive.
  10. Well I'm cruising right along. This is really a junk box parts build so I'm really happy about that. There's something cool about using parts that have been languishing in the parts boxes since the Clinton administration or longer. It looks nose high in the pics but it will be level when it's done. Unless something goes wrong, I'll be using the supercharged 3.8 liter Ford engine. I think my techs can get it over 300hp. In this little truck that outa be plenty. And it looks like about 16 inches of ground clearance.
  11. Okay. I'm in. I'm going to cunningly disguise my Cannonballer as a commercial vehicle. This little Ford will be my victim. I'll give myself some ground clearance and keep it 2WD. Since I'm older than thirty I may not change to right hand drive, the dashboard does't look easy. Power will come from either a 5.0 liter Ford from the Revell '32 or a supercharged 3.8 liter Ford from a '92 TBird. I'm leaning towards adding a topper which is why the white bed is upside down in the pic. I'll likely start this weekend. This silly kit has a dual leaf and straight axle in the front so I'm going to have to figure out a new front suspension.
  12. Grrr............Thanks. I'm quite disappointed. No other reason to buy the kit, if the only cool thing about it is the printed tires and decals.
  13. I've been working on finding a build that interests me so that I can participate this year. I may have done so. Details to follow. If you are like me and yet to find your inspiration, do a Google search for the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge. Theres an awful lot of really fun racers there.
  14. I'd really like to hear from someone who has bought and looked at this kit. I'm very interested to find out if it has the Hilbourne injection set up and clear hood from the early release of this kit. From what Casey posted, it doesn't look like it does, but I was still hoping.
  15. Here's the recipe that has never let me down on covering red/yellow plastic. Very simple. 1 coat of Krylon flat metallic silver over the bare plastic. Prime over the silver and paint as usual.
  16. This has been discussed before.
  17. Thanks guys. I have some fun stuff on the way for '16.
  18. I'm no expert but based on my box of spare tires, those look like stock car tires.
  19. Great looking models Sam. A year well spent.

    I dig it.
  21. That's the one! Thanks man.
  22. Yeah, on Google I found a hot rod with an Allison some guy had built. It had a modified intake to use big racing carbs, so it was a no brainer to do it here.
  23. Correct. I'm not the sort to pay $40+ for a model. There are lots of kits from $5-$25 that I'd like to build as well so paying a lot seems a waste. Odds are I'm going to kit-bash it anyway,
