Four for me this year. Pretty happy with that. I'd probably get a fifth done if I hadn't come down with a bad cold over that last few days. I hate building when I'm miserable.

Thanks Gene. It was a roll of Xmas ribbon from Michaels.

Carl, Dale, thanks very much.

You are quite right. Mostly because I'm wondering how to do so, so that it works with the theme. I don't have any gold BMF and doing them black wouldn't look good. Chrome BMF is out of the question. I'd probably have to find some bronze paint, mask off and shoot the frames.

I saw the new film last night. No spoilers. As a fan of the originals (ep4,5,6) I was very very impressed and pleased. JJ Abrams really understood what made the original films great and what the fans hated about the prequel trilogy. He nailed it in every way. It's wonderful to see the original cast back and the story is top notch. Lots of films to follow. We have two more in this trilogy and then two stand-alone films. One called Rogue Squadron that is currently filming and reportedly, one about Boba Fett. I'm sure there will be more after that as well.

Thanks very much for the ataboys guys. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

I knew someone would catch that. After photos were taken I went back and ran a smoothed toothpick down the doorlines. The decals are rather elastic and they dimpled very nicely into the door gaps. As for how I did the decals, first I laid some tape on the body and drew the shape. Then I laid the tape over some clear blisterpack material. Then cut them out. Then I took the clear templates to the map that I printed on a full sheet of decal paper, and traced around the template, to include the graphics I wanted. After I had the decals cut out, I added a brown border with some thinned acrylic and sprayed the decal bonder on afterward.

Begun in August of 2011, I'm very happy to have this one in the completed column. It was very much a situation where technology was the stumbling block. Without the ability to make my own decals, it was going nowhere. However with a high quality ink jet and Bare Metal Foil decal paper, I was finally able to make it happen. Rather than write a thesis on all the work, here is the WIP thread. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/46867-jolly-roger-merc-back-on-the-bench-83015/?page=1 On to the pics. Comments and criticism always welcome.

I did find this, which would lend itself well to the project. http://shop.centerpiecebox.com/10x-5x-5-Wood-Box-10x5x5.htm You can order custom sizes so I'm thinking about 12x6x6.

Okay I'm in. Here's my official entry. This seems to be a perfect candidate. It comes with lowered suspension for use with the modern wheels/tires but it can be pretty easily modified to use with some wide whites. I'm planning an engine change and some partial dechroming. A flat two tone will be the order of the day. I'll start soon.

Same here. However it also depends on what I have finished recently. If I finished a model with a lot of mods and scratch building, I would me more inclined to choose a subject without many modifications. I also shift from one genre to another for the next one. I go from protouring, to a hot rod, to a muscle car, to a drag racer. This keeps things fresh.

I've been rewatching Epidodes 4,5,6 in preperation for seeing 7 on Sunday. And I've been really paying attention to the film itself. I think what helped make those films stand out back then in my opinion was the massive attention paid to detail. To realism. It's hard to use the work realism in sci-fi, but I'm serious. The ships and people, they aren't pretty, they are dirty, they are used. The Falcon is supposed to be the sci-fi equivilent of a jalopy and it looks like it. Everything in every scene was so darn detailed. A lot of effort and a lot of patience on the part of a lot of craftsman. It still impresses me to no end.

A combination of displays.

Great looking models. I must say folks that can build the same type of model over and over and stay interested are a bit strange to me. I could never do that.

Excellent post with good info.

This is insane. In the best possible way. Keep at it, I'm going to enjoy this.

That is something most folks would scratch build. Make the plenum from sheet stock and use some scale braided line and fittings for the nitrous lines. http://www.hobbylinc.com/detail-master-nitrous-lines-fuel-brake-plastic-model-vehicle-accessory-kit-1:24-1:25-scale-1151

Yeah so far this is just an advertising agreement. There's nothing there about kits based on WCC. Everyone chill out. -
Thanks. I picked up a kit with some of the caddy bullet tail lights except they were clear. I sprayed them clear amber. And scratch what I said before about the '56 Chevy, I'm coming up with some new ideas.
-
I think I have my build. After finishing this '57, I bought the Monogram 1/24 '56 Chevy to go with it. It will be built in a similar fashion with a brighter two tone, and dropped even lower.

Count me in. Still planning the build. Stay tuned .

I agree. However we're just armchair referees here. To a businessman who is given a budget and a deadline, you gotta do the smart thing. Sometimes that means spending more for a solid starter with an engine that doesn't need replacing (I assume they used the 427) and decent running gear, rather than buy something cheap and wore out without a desireable pedigree.
