  1. Well. Admittedly I have never bought a resin engine. I usually prefer to buy a kit with an engine that will fit the bill and have all the extra bits for later. But the obvious quality might change my mind. I'll have to look into my future plans and see if any of your stuff will help out.
  2. Thanks guys. I'm very happy with it. I'm looking forward to setting it down in the tuner category in my next model contest.
  3. All the tutorials I saw on this stuff was using an airbrush applicator. What made you try a dry brush technique and what sort of brush did you use?
  4. Wow. Your bare-metal finish looks miles better than what I did on my RPU. I'm going to have to get some of that Mr Metal stuff and give it another try. Well done sir.
  5. Thanks guys. Bill that's definitely what I was shooting for. Pretty much will all my builds frankly.
  6. I just finished this kitbash using the new '29 kit. More pics Under Glass.
  7. I've got a vintage Nascar kit that would make a great Pikes Peak Challenge racer. I just need some stock car type tires with treads on them because this will be a pre-entirely-paved-Pikes-Peak type racer. Back when it had dirt section of the coarse. I think it should be a wide tire, with decent sidewall, with treads. Maybe the Revell '32 rear tires in all four corners? Any recommendations?
  8. Thanks Greg. I'm really happy with how it turned out.
  9. Oh man that's funny.
  10. Wow, that is looking sharp. Very nicely done.
  11. Great story Tom. I hope to get to an Atlanta show some day.
  12. Me too Tom. I did this one with the "if I was going to build one just for me" idea in mind.
  13. Just finished this one. More pics in the Under Glass section.
  14. The AMT '73 Mustang comes with a very decent set of Minilites. I used them on my Stude. The kits not good for much else though.
  15. Mike, Carl, thanks very much. In hindsight, someone told me early in the build to knock 1/4 inch off the back ot the track nose. At the time it looked fine to me, but I think now I see that it looks a little too bulbous.
  16. Thanks David. You can find the under glass shots here. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/105142-77-pacer-wagon-sleeper/
  17. I'm very happy to finish this one. It's a kitbash with the Revell '29 Model pickup kit and the new '29 Model A roadster kit. I used the channeled chassis, suspension, radiator and nailhead from the roadster kit. I carved the "extra" floor from the roadster kit into the raised floor in the RPU cab. The wheels and tires are from the Sock-it-to-Me Corvette. The rest is from the pickup kit or scratch built. I wanted this to look like something that's got some salt and strip time in it's past and now it's just a cool hot rod that it's owner enjoys. I tried for a weathered bare metal look, which I think I was semi-successful in achieving. The first shots are sans the top and tank which are now permanent fixtures. The racy door panels I made from a collage of old pulp fiction cover art. The bed is stained balsa. Enough words, here's the pics. Comments and criticisms welcome.
  18. Matthew. With the deadline looming, I would hit that paint with some 91% isopropyl alcohol and the a series of black/rust washes and go for the beater look. You can always take it back apart and repaint later. Try some Duplicolor though. Rustoleum is garbage IMHO.
  19. I've always thought that Sam was the real talent in the family but tragically he died quite young. Like Bill said though I'm just going to let whatever resentment I had for George, fall behind me.
  20. Wow. That's one of the coolest customs I've ever seen in scale. The forward lean that makes it look like it's moving, sitting still. All the body mods are very tasteful and well done. The paint.................is off the hook. Great engine choice and detailing is excellent. This is VERY impressive and I'm glad to see this from someone new to the forums. I look forward to seeing whats next from you.
  21. Wow. That is a great looking model.
  22. A Google image search is your friend here then. It's something I do very frequently for any sort of detailing.
