  1. This will be my first build based on the new '29 roadster kit. I'll use the channeled chassis, engine and drivetrain with the body parts from the pickup kit. I'll use the track nose and try to use the four piece hood notched for the exhaust. Paint will be keep-it-simple-stupid red oxide primer. Wheels and tires from the AMT '62 Vette. Afterwards I'll kick around building the roadster with the Model A chassis from the pick-up kit.
  2. I dig it. Gonna stay flat or going to gloss it up?
  3. Very often I'll look through these threads and say to myself, "I wouldn't have done it like that." Sounds pompous I'll grant you. Very infrequently do I think though, "I wouldn't have thought of that." That's the case here though. The alteration of the seats to make them fit without losing function, is done perfectly. I am going to shamelessly steal this idea for my upcoming '29 build. Well done sir.
  4. Glad to see you back at it Bill. It's real hard to get this one low. Your's looks great. I spliced in a '68 Vette subframe for my Carrera Panamericana racer. Looking forward to seeing more.

    And bigger ones perhaps?
  6. You are quite welcome.
  7. I think it's mostly because the model companies finally figured out who their target demographic is. That being, the 40+ crowd. The folks that grew up in the modeling heyday of the 50's through the 70's. But now we're older, and have some disposable income. So they put out some kits that appeal to that crowd, and they sell very well. How many of us will buy multiples of a particularly good kit, or at least buy each of the variations on the kit that is released? I daresay most of us. The companies spent the 80's and 90's trying in vain to pull in the 15 year olds that bought so many in the decades before. Now they get it.
  8. Gotta agree. As excellent as the work is, it's not a rat with all the pretty on there.
  9. Great stuff Doc. I can't wait to dig into mine.
  10. Looks great Doc! Very authentic.
  11. Hugh, you must revive this thread in December and let us know how your sister reacted. It's a great looking model.
  12. I'm diggin' it Virgil. I'll be starting on my '29 soon.
  13. I just picked this kit up. James did you ever finish it?
  14. Very very impressive work. It's so clean and precise. A fantastic piece.
  15. Here's some options. Paint it entirely body color, which if you watch barret Jackson, is widely done. Or, to represent the factory look, primer grey or black with body color overspray like this. http://www.apexautosports.com/2012/fresh-overspray/ However there is really nothing wrong with what you already do. A semi-gloss black chassis with a silver gas tank really looks sharp in my opinion. It makes everything that isn't black, really pop. Another thing you can do no matter how you paint it, is to add some road grime. Plenty of options. Just have fun with it.
  16. The body is very faithful. The only downside to the kit is the front suspension. AMT made some changes in order to get posable steering and varied ride height, that makes the front end look a little wonky.
  17. Could that be an old roundy round dirt track chassis or something?
  18. The auto section was kind of light to be honest. No catagories that I noticed. Folks were just putting all their models in one spot like your FAST shows. Some good work though.
  19. Looking good Al. A black wash in the grill would make that front stand out though.
  20. The bodies are really quite nicely done. Everything else is junk, but as Scale-Master pointed out, they can lend themselves to some fun and unique projects.
  21. I know exactly what you mean.
  22. Very cool Al. The Shelby wheels work amazingly well.
  23. This looks great. Very nice work. Keep it going.
  24. Order direct. That way you know you are getting the freshest stuff. http://www.bare-metal.com/
  25. I didn't have time to photo everything but here's the highlights of the IPMS Orlando show. http://s53.photobucket.com/user/Jantrix/library/Modelpalooza?sort=3&page=1
