  1. Just remember that ignition wires aren't rigid, so they lay like in Andy's photo rather than arc over the valve covers.
  2. Honestly my ideas aren't all that unique. Most are inspired by whats been done before. I just put my own spin on it. I will say this though. I do spend a lot of spare time thinking about and planning my models. I take notes, I do research, I take measurements, I ask advise. So before I start clipping parts from trees, I have what resembles an outline on what I want to do to the kit, the parts I need etc. etc. Spending that kinda time on a kit, you are bound to come up with some cool ideas. Sometimes it takes a while. It's been four years on the Jolly Roger Merc, and I've only recently figured out how I want to finish the body. She'll be back on the bench this weekend.
  3. I did this with an weathering kit I purchased at my LHS. It uses a chalk that has some sort of self adhesive in it. As you burnish it the chalk adheres more. I don't remember the company right now, but I'll check it out when I get home from work tonight. It was easy to use and I used a flat clear over it, no problems.

  7. Bob, it's my understanding that this kit has no parts in common with any of the Revell deuces. Entirely new.
  8. Thanks guys. There are certain genres of cars that I sort of have a bucket list to build. A surf rod, a Carrera Panamericana racer, salt flats racer, Pikes Peak, etc. A sleeper was high up on the list, and I'm pretty happy with it.
  9. Boy, am I glad to have this one done. Well, nearly. Still have to fabricate an upper radiator hose and come up with a side mirror or two. Anyway this is an AMT '77 Pacer Wagon. It's been build as a sleeper for this years Cannonball CBP. It's set up as a racer/drift car. I've added the twin turbo Toyota 2JZ from the AMT Supra kit. The turbos are plumbed backwards in that kit so some creative fabbing had to be done. I added an 90's Corvette front subframe and suspension. I modified the kit rear suspension, adding traction bars and a panhard bar. I built a six point roll cage and tucked it as tight to the roofline as possible to keep it as hard to see as possible. I fabbed a drift-style e-brake, using the arm rest as place a 1:1 builder would hide the brake mechanicals. Paint is Krylon and I used a chalk based weathering kit for the surface rust. On to the pics. It's not perfect, but I think it's a pretty convincing sleeper. Also, thanks to Ace-Garageguy for invaluable engineering advice.
  10. It would seem to me the safest way to go is an acrylic wash. Just standard craft paints thinned with water.

  13. Probably back in the late 80's when my pal Kurt and I would go off-roading at a place called the Powerlines, in Oldsmar, FL. He had a very nice '73 F150 and was a very good driver. It was a very low lying area, with lots of standing water and mud. We spent several Saturdays out there until a hidden stump among the undergrowth made a mess of the front tie rod and rear driveshaft. We pulled the driveshaft and limped it home in 4high with the front wheels toed in a bit.
  14. Most PC's have a Notepad function. Just open it up, use it, then minimize it so it's always open on the desktop. If you want to add hyperlinks, use MS Word instead.
  15. I've got a '29 RPU and a Phantom Vicky that will both benefit from this kit. I can't wait to dig into this one.
  16. Body is weathered, just the final details left. I'm actually gonna finish one early.
  17. Okay last update before under glass. The body is painted, foiled and some mild weathering. I intended it to look like surface rust coming through thinning paint. I think I was sorta successful in this regard. I tried a weathering medium I'd never used before. No too bad. What do you think?
  18. I really like this model. You did a good job on it. The only thing that distracts is the cut away hood sides.
  19. I'm very much looking forward tot his kit. I'll be buying more than one which for me is a very rare occurance. I have several planned projects that will benefit from the parts here. I do find the "patina" decals to be laughable, but the rest of the kit looks top notch. I have yet to use white wall decals on any kit, so we'll have to see how they look.
  20. If R2 wasn't doing so much reverse engineering of old parts I'd agree with you, but I'm going to hope for the best. Fingers crossed.
  21. Thank you. Both of those builds represents a time period in my modeling life and I'm very pleased with them no matter how bad they look. So yes, very much an example of "where I came from" as a builder. I'd never rebuild either. However, as much I enjoyed this kit as a kid, unless the new release has parts from the early releases of this kit, like '66 parts, clear hood, injectors etc., I very likely will not bother picking one up. But if the '53 Ford Pickup kit is any guage, Round2 understands what we want, and I think we'll likely see those parts in the new release. If that happens, seeing new versions of these old friends is VERY likely.
