  1. Yeah but can it haul a load of sheet rock?
  2. Very good advice. Due to both of those points I ruined one of the best paint jobs I've ever laid down.
  3. Are you going to leave that nasty molded spare tire or get rid of it? A quick and dirty method would be to cut it out, add a blank made from the original, and then cover with some self adhesive felt from your local craft store.
  4. Bruce. I think I'd skip the clear and polish. Race cars don't usually worry about the shiny finish. Looks more realistic as-is. I'm glad everyone liked it. And for those that have yet to finish like myself please feel free to continue to post in this thread. Well, I'm sure Chuck or I will run it next year, but I'm not sure I'll participate. My wife was all supportive and understanding on Friday morning, but by Sunday morning her support and understanding had left for parts unknown. Sunday evening was sort of cool in the house if you get my drift. It was fun but in the end, I'm not sure it's worth what I'll be paying for the next week or so.
  5. Thanks very much. It's just BMF over the kit hood, distressed with a little 1000 grit.
  6. Very nice work. Looks great.
  7. That's up to you Clay. I'm not going to finish in time so I probably won't put anything in the title.
  8. Well guys I'm throwing in the towel. Model building is not the most ergonomic of hobbies and after three days my back is doing some complaining. So rather than make myself miserable for next week I'm gonna call it. Not to mention the wife is appreciative. I'm taking her out to a nice expensive dinner. Here's where I am. Also a concern is the enamel paints are still kinda soft. I just gotta finish the foil, the dash, and just final assembly. I'm kicking around the thought of hitting the body with some dull coat after the decals. The paint is too much of a semi gloss for me.
  9. Thanks Sean. It's very simple. I've decided not to distress the paint. The green looks great, so I'm going to foil and decal, and then hit the whole body with some flat clear.
  10. A very tricked out '66 or '67 Charger. Classic looks with a modern drive train and suspension. My dream daily driver.
  11. Good work guys. Get some sleep.
  12. Well, my amazing wife served dinner that the bench tonight. I'm gonna have to spoil the heck out of her next weekend to make up for this. I'm done for the evening. Body is primed. Engine is in the works. Lot's of work getting the ride height. I'd be a lot further along if I wasn't set on getting it low. See you guys tomorrow.
  13. Some custom grill and bumper work. Will have aluminum hood fixtures, tail pipes exiting the bumpers and have added a '54 Chevy grill bar. The holes in the grill will be for amber bullet turn signal indicators. Will back the whole thing with a flat black mesh. Heading for primer very shortly.
  14. Okay. I'm off and running. Lots to do.
  15. Sorry to hear that Dave, give your mom our best.
  16. Just for grins here's a list of thoughts on building quickly. 1. Test fit everything you can before starting the build, body, glass, interior, chassis. Any fitment issues, try a different kit. 2. Do a kit you have some experience with. 3. Great opportunity to do a nice shelf model of something with a simplified chassis. 4. Forget the engine. Glue the hood shut and paint. Very useful idea if you've already pirated the engine for another build. 5. Flat or semigloss enamels. Model Master & Testor lacquers, automotive paints like Duplicolor or Plasticote. Very quick drying. 6. Weathering/patina. Makes a perfect paint job a non-necessity. 7. Low parts count kits. 8. Avoid engine swaps. I do them on near every build, but they are usually a serious time sink. 9. Avoid body work that requires filler. 10. Avoid opening/hinged doors/trunk. That one bit me in the butt on the '56 Ford on the 24hr build off. I ended up gluing them shut and then had final assembly fitment issues. 11. Plan ahead, as many details as possible. 12. Primer paint job. 13. Have fresh BMF on hand. If yours is too old, adhesive issues will complicate things. 14. Don't overdo the detailing. That's about all I can think of. #11 is probably the most important. See you tomorrow morning. Post up as often as you can.
  17. Man I just love the pure fun and creativity of what you do Ira. Another fantastic piece.
  18. Yep, '49 was a year of change for Ford. And a great change. The '49 Ford is a classic. However it was mostly due to them following the design cues from companies like Studebaker who had already nixed the full fenders on passenger cars in '47. Those are two fantastic looking models. Well done sir.
  19. It depends on the kit. Some are promo style with a one piece chassis and a shallow interior ('63 Olds Starfire) to the '35 Mercedes 500K which is just about one of the nicest kits ever produced. I would open your kits though and check for the tires harming the plastic like Austin mentioned.
  20. I'll be back at the Pacer immediately following the July 4th weekend build off. Gonna stay on it until complete.
  21. My wife watched Lost Boys recently and I remembered when I owned the soundtrack (on cassette) and there are two excellent covers on it. Roger Daltrey - Don't Let the Sun Go Down https://youtu.be/tLSl8kwnnVU Echo & the Bunnymen - People Are Strange https://youtu.be/eTviNc52igI
  22. I have three. 37 Chevy 39 Chevy And a 2JZ powered AMC Pacer WIP
  23. Okay here's the kit and the plan. A Monogram '57 Hardtop. The plan is to lower it on wide whites and Chevy slotted mags. Keeping the small block but going with a single 4 barrel intake. Black over green two tone. Gonna take the color combo into the interior like the 1:1 versions. It's going to be all flat paints, with a slightly weathered patina. Gonna de-chrome all the bumpers because there's some issues with the parts that need to be cleaned up and I'll paint them a bright silver, which will fit the theme. Add some hot rod pin striping and decals and we'll be good. This kit was given to me by my wife's cousin who is a very special fellow that I love a lot. He seems a little disappointed when he comes over and the kit is still on my shelf. So I'm going to build it up in my style and I'm sure he'll like it. The bench is all cleared off and I can't wait to start.
