Revell '29 kitbash - an RPU - final update 10/30
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Me too. Most of my work is done on the weekends, so hopefully I will get more done tomorrow. Right now it is all painted a dull silver. I'm going to decal and then dull coat. Then I'll add some washes and powders and see how it looks. Fingers crossed. -
Wow. This sounds awesome. It's shorter than your average Cannonball, but the off road portion bumps the difficulty quite a bit. I wasn't planning on participating next year, but if this theme is chosen, it might just change my mind.

So maybe have a Cannonball in Australia? Right hand drive optional? Add off-roading to the mix, so a hearty vehicle would be required? Would one of our Aussie racers please come up with a course that would involve road and off-road to the tune of 2500 miles or so? Give us a point A to point B?

Just a couple of things - short and sweet. Forgive if I appear blunt or rude. 1. Lose the tube glue. Forever. Get some gap filling CA (superglue) glue at your local hobby shop or you can order online from several vendors. It's sandable within minutes. If you are going to use one glue (most of use utilize many), that's what I'd use. You can even use it for clear parts if you are REAL careful and use the tiniest amount. 2. If you want to paint the headers candy apple, more power to ya. It's your model. But, if you want the model to look more like a real car, do some Google searches on how parts are commonly finished on real cars.

It's been decided that TFchronos (Jonathan Mason) will be running next years Cannonball. He's gonna handle the poll for deciding the theme later on and starting the new thread next year. Jon has been an active particapant of this CBP since it was on the SA forums and I'm sure he'll do just fine.

This is all great input folks. Keep it coming and toward the end of November we'll put the most popular suggestions in a poll and we can vote. I think the RHD and import only themes would limit our field too much and also we'd lose builders due to lack of interest. But that's not my call, if people vote for it, so be it.

Jarkko those look great. Thanks for posting them.

Hmm. The 4x4 idea sounds cool to me too. How about we call it Cannonball Yukon Trail? And we race 2200 miles from Seattle WA to Anchorage AK?

Life after the purple pond question

I agree. Give it a couple of days. -
Here's some theme options for next years race. Let me know what think. Feel free to add some ideas. 1. Box stock - any model - no kitbashing, use what came in the box. 2. Supercars and Concept cars. 3. Muscle Madness - any car commonly thought of as a muscle car from 1963 - 1976 - technology of the day only 4. Euro Cannonball - no US vehicles, race will be held in Europe 5. The 1960's - any car from 1960-1969 model years, no technology limitations 6. Unlimited - basically no theme - build whatever you want. This has been done several times now, I'm not a fan of it.

Matt, believe it or not it's a Valspar rattle can color from Lowes. I bought it for another project and I was surprised how close it is to the factory nailhead color. When I get home from work tonight I'll let you know the name of the color. More soon guys. Body is painted silver and I'm going to try to get a weathered bare metal look with some washes, powders and dullcoat. -
No rules against posting someone elses work. We're glad you did. That's a terrific looking model.
-
No sweat Christian. I need to update my engine photos for the Pacer this weekend and I'll get mine up too. Keep it going guys, 6 weeks sounds like a lot of time, but I promise you its not.
-
That turned out great. Nice work.

Awesome. Don't forget to put your pics in the completed builds thread for the race/poll. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/106766-2015-cannonball-run-cbp-completed-builds-thread/

Man, that is a sweet build. Great job.

That looks amazing. The swirl patterns you ended up with are very interesting. It looks like wood. Id love to see how you did it, step by step.

Done. Also guys, lets be kicking around ideas for next years theme, and decide if you guys are even interested in doing another next year. I'll be running the CBP if so. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/106766-2015-cannonball-run-cbp-completed-builds-thread/

Well it's getting that time of year again. December 1 will be the final day of the 8th Annual Cannonball Run CBP. I daresay this is the longest running community build on the internet and I'm always proud to be a part of it, whether I finish a build or not. It never fails to attract excellent builders that just want to have some fun with no drama. This years theme was "sleepers" with no model/year restrictions. It has proven to be our most popular theme to date. We're really gonna have to think of something cool to top it for 2016. So without further ado, lets get our completed builds photographed and posted here. Remember guys, the folks on the forum will vote based on how well you represent your model, so find a way to take some decent photos. A piece of non-shiny poster board as a back drop, some decent lighting and something to steady the camera will do wonders. IF YOU ARE NOT POSTING PHOTOS, PLEASE LEAVE NO COMMENTS HERE. IT WILL MAKE IT MUCH EASIER FOR VOTERS TO FIND THE MODELS. IF YOU WANT TO GIVE AN ATABOY PLEASE DO SO IN THE ORIGINAL CBP THREAD. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/96893-cannonball-run-2015-the-sleeperball/

Do we think it's too early to start a thread for completed builds?
