Frankly, this is the best field of racers we've had to date. So much innovation and creativity. Mike, great job on the poll. Fred, you're going to have to tell us which one after this is over.

Well I think that whether or not someone was a one hit wonder, must differ geographically. Because I was a big Top 40 listener back in the 80's (in Florida) and I have never heard those other songs by the Call.
-
I believe you Harry, I pulled that one off a website for one hit wonders. It's still a favorite though. EDIT: yep I remember 6th Avenue Heartache. I'll remove the Wallflowers if I can figure out how.

Here's some favorites. The Call -Let the Day Begin. I think was used in a couple elections. Faith No More - Epic Sweet - Ballroom Blitz. It's been covered a dozen times at least.

22 completed models. That's fantastic. Well done everyone.

I do two types of reboots. The first is setting all the long term projects aside and do a quick build. It's usually one of my non-shiny rods and it's done in around 40 hours. The other reboot I do every 5 years or so. And that is, go through all my WIP's and pull out the ones that I have completely, utterly and irrevocably lost interest in. Then I get rid of them. I either trade them to friends or sell them for $5 at my local swap meet. I might be weird, but a WIP that I'm not working on or interested in, is a source of stress. It bugs me. Unstarted kits do not though. It's very liberating to take them to a swap meet, sell them and buy new kits.

Here's another I'd recommend, AFTER graduation. Lies My Teacher Told Me, by James W. Loewen http://www.amazon.com/Lies-My-Teacher-Told-Everything/dp/0684818868/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1449062495&sr=8-2&keywords=lie+my+teacher+told+me

Well. This should be interesting then.

Whats your work area like?
Jantrix replied to Dann Tier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm currently working out of my apartment bedroom. Thats my spray booth on the right but I only use it for spraying bodies. -
I did a dio base a few years ago that I'm pretty happy with but I don't keep it out much as it tends to collect dust. I've yet to find a cover for it. I've been bitten by the dio-bug again and I though of trying one in a shadow box, similar to this. I'm thinking about this mostly because I don't have a lot of display room. This can be hung on the wall easily. Also I don't see it done very often. I can fit it with a piece of lexan to keep the dust out. I have found a website that will make what they call a centerpiece box in whatever size I need for a pretty reasonable price. Has anyone done one of these?

Welcome. I'm in Tampa as well. We've got a very good modeling scene here. -
Painting in an apartment

Just their standard enamels, the Covermaxx line I guess it is. I don't use the Fusion line that they advertise as "for plastic" That one does go on too heavy. -
dodge 64' Polara Wagon Cannonball Sleeper build. Completed

Thanks Pat, I'm glad you like it. -
Hey guys, just a quick note here. I'm going to be slammed at work pretty hard over the next two weeks so I have asked Mike (Lunajammer) to take care of the race poll this year, and he's agreed to. If you guys want to try the "none of the above" idea and only do the one poll, it's fine by me. No matter how this shakes out I've been very happy to hang and build with you guys once again. It's been fun. See you at the finish line.

Thanks Pete

I have started a closed Facebook group called Model Car Workshop. This is a place designed specifically for asking and getting, constructive critique of your work. Also it is a type of think tank on how to accomplish a modeling goal. Not necessarily how-to, but more like, "How can I build a replica of dear old dad's dirt track racer from the 70's?" So if you are interested in checking us out hit the link and shoot me join request. I look forward to seeing you there. https://www.facebook.com/groups/962746283798179/ And if you are one of those, "I don't do Facebook or any social media" grinches, don't bother to mention it, I don't care. This group isn't set up for you.

Yep, we've discussed it before, but the reason we passed on it was because most folks suck at following directions. We can tell them to just vote for one and "none of the above" for the rest, but the second one idiot doesn't do that and picks one he likes from each group our results are flawed. If you guys want to try that we can, but if we get 40 voters and 52 cars voted for we know that there were some non-instruction-readin'-morons involved. The thumbnails are a groovy idea though. Lets make that happen.

Okay we got 12 completed builds in the Completed Builds thread and it looks like at least four more nearing completion. It's going to be a banner year. I advise everyone to look over their entry and make sure all info they want the voters to know about the build is there. I have no idea if Wagonmaster will be around to do the race poll. If I don't hear from him, I'll try to get it done on the 2nd. Because of the number of people entered and the nature of the poll function here, we're going to have a semi-finals poll (left up for about a week) and a finals poll (left up for another week) to figure out our winner. It's a bit drawn out but it is what it is. I've asked Gregg to change the poll function to allow more slots per question, but with only the Cannonball folks asking for the change, he doesn't see a reason to do so, and from his perspective I agree. We'll make the best of it. Our field so far. These are the groups that will be competing in the semis. Group 1 1. Helix - Dodge Ram 50 2. Christian-W - Mini Cooper 3. Dominik - VW Beetle 4. Rotorbolt73 - '76 Chevy Caprise 5. Jantrix - '77 AMC Pacer Wagon Group 2 1. Chunkypeanutbutter - '76 International Harvester Scout II 2. Drag Freak - '64 Ford Fairlane 3. Vekasiini - Delahaye 135 4. Foxer - Ferrari 250 GTO 5. Pat Minarick - Smart Group 3 - (so far) 1. Wrecker388 '92 Mercury Cougar 2. DeeCee '40 Ford Sedan Delivery Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Counting today we have SIX days left.

I've no idea what "apples" means but if it's something good then I agree. She looks awesome.

Ben thanks very much. I think those are the right ones. Wider in the rear with plenty of sidewall and treads. That's the ticket. I'll see about finding some.

Painting in an apartment
Jantrix replied to njcarguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One thing at a time. 1. The million small pieces. Every one of them probably has a mold line that needs to be removed. If the part is going to be flat black or silver, I don't usually prime. If it's going to be body color, it gets primed. 2. Bottle and brush paints are for details only in my opinion. Near everything can and should be spray painted. Krylon has a nice line of flat paints that work great for interiors. 3. Nothing wrong with spray paints. Don't sweat it. 4. The cold. Here's what I have done. Fill a pot with hot tap water. Set the can of paint in the tap water for about ten minutes. Keep the plastic at room temp and set them up on a paper plate or something you can carry easliy. Remove the paint from the water, dry the can, and shake thoroughly. Grab the plastic, step outside, spray in a windless area. Step back inside and let the parts dry in a place where you can control the amount of dust at, room temperature. I'm in an apartment myself. I do have the benefit of an indoor spray booth, but I only use it for spraying bodies, everything else is outdoors. It's more challenging, but with proper planning, very do-able. -
For 1/24 the SBC's from the Monogram '37 Fords are a perfect "crate engine". The Revell 32's have a very good looking small block Ford you could get from any catalog. The Revell Wagonrod (Chevy), and Phantom Deuce (Ford) each have a modern powerplant that might qualify. Also most any modern Mustang, Challenger or Camaro would have an engine you could likely buy through the aftermarket if you had deep enough pockets. 90's Corvettes with a tuned port ejection setup would work perhaps. Like JC said, any modern NASCAR kit would have a crate engine. And ........................... that's all I have to say about that.
