  1. Is this dio a static display that you use for many builds or specific to this model?
  2. The plastic from bottle and blister packs is seriously soft stuff. Both Plastrust and Evergreen both sell clear sheet stock. That's where I go for it. However I can seriously dig trying the low buck method first. I used blister pack material for my '34 pick-up.
  3. Hmm...........there is a fourth choice you should add. O I build whatever version/issue happens to fall into my hot little hands. That's where I would put my check mark.
  4. If it's an easy kit to find, I'd paint a new body and replace broken parts. If not, then a restoration is in order.
  5. For flats and silvers I use Krylon spray enamels. For gloss body finishes I use Duplicolor lacquers because with the Florida humidity drying time is an issue.
  6. There is no reason to post multiple threads on the same subject in different forum sections. Most people use the View New Content button and will see your post. Besides, it makes Harry crazy.
  7. Then it's quite obvious that you will fit in just fine around here. Find a way to cover up those nasty rear wheel openings and you are on to something here. I also think you learned a lesson with this. Never cut anything badly because "it doesn't matter it'll be covered up." Because plans change don't they? To fabricate some skirts, use half round stock directly onto the fender in whatever shape pleases you. Then cut flat sheet stock to fit the shape you made with the half round stock. Cement it onto the half round stock and sand the edges smooth. This gives you a distance off the fender (based on the size of the half round stock) and it's easier to smooth it all in. Does that make any sense?
  8. VERY COOL IDEA! Keep it goin'!
  9. You can buy gold leaf kits at craft stores like Michael's that come with everything you need and instructions. For pinstriping go to youtube and check out some how-to videos.
  10. That would be beyond perfect. But alas I do not have that kit. I'll have to look onto it. Wait a minute..............Stop the presses! I just remembered a glue bomb Boot Hill Express in my stash. I do believe that hemi with the wild velocity stacks will do me and this build, fine. Thanks for all the help and inpiration guys.
  11. Are there any non PE options? Maybe a beading pin smashed flat?
  12. Robert, as far as I know there is no entry cut off date. Welcome to the Run.
  13. The Revell 49 Merc has a great set.
  14. Not to worry, I'm using the chassis and suspension from the Monogram '40 Ford Pick-up. It's left over from a build that didn't make it.
  15. The crates are no sweat. A little basswood and some craft glue and you are good to go. The super sculpey for the fruit sounds like the way to go.
  16. This is the kit I'm planning on kitbashing the ###### out of.
  17. This will be the latter. I'm planning cartoony kinda thing. A surf rod with a bamboo surf rack and tiki motif. I believe Hollywoood Jim did one a couple years ago that I liked a lot. Yep, I did call it a rat rod in the OP. I do want it to have a traditional flavor, but with the bamboo and tiki stuff I really didn't want it to call it "traditional". Hense my request for engine ideas. Oh and Jim? No rust. But it will have a matte finish, probably weathered a bit to look faded.
  18. Hey guys, I'm planning a rat rod based on the Revellogram 1/24 37 Ford, and I'd like a more traditional hot rod engine than the SBC that comes with it. I've put 1/25 engines under this body and they DO look small. I'm going to put the chassis from a 1/24 '40 pick-up under this, and the flattie that comes with the same kit looks terrible. Any ideas? ANY 392 hemis Flatheads Nailheads 409's y-blocks Old Caddy 390's
  19. Nice work. Lots of attitude. I like it a lot.
  20. I'll say this. I've been rattle canning it for a long time. And I've been more of less satisfied with my results. But someday I want to really get creative with graphics and other effects. No one has ever been able to show me how get those effects that Cranky and Lownslow lay down, with a rattle can. So someday I'm gonna have to break out my airbrush and really LEARN how to use it.
  21. I don't think its a matter of "we can't think of anything else so lets...." I think it's a matter of "Wouldn't it be cool if we ..........?" I don't know about you, but I'd like to be around for the filming of something like that. A sort of modern "hats off" to one of the greatest car chases of all time. I think is pretty darn cool.
  22. Yep some 70% rubbing alcohol will definitely help knock that shine down. The use of flat clears and grey washes will also serve to make things look faded.
  23. The only way that it has effected me is in limiting how far I'm willing to travel for contests. I've wanted to do the Birmingham and Atlanta NNL's for a long while. It looks like that won't happen anytime soon. Also I have done Jaxcon for the last several years, but skipped it this year because I couldn't justify the $100 gas cost from Tampa to show only one new model this year. As for kits.......I have plans for buying only two this year and I'll buy those online. My local hobby shop is about five miles from the house and carry most supplies I need, so I just plan those stops when I'm already in the area.
  24. Well lets scale it down. Those tubes are about 2 inched in diameter right? So that would require tubing around 2mm or 3/32. Check your local hobby shop for Plastrust or Evergreen tubing or round stock in that size. The Plastruct catalog code would be TB-3 I believe. As for bends, thats trickier. A little heat at the bend is what most people do. It usually requires a candle and some practice.
