I think we ARE seeing a bit of a modeling renaissance, and I think it's because Revell and the companies putting out AMT/MPC kits have realized that the 12-18 year olds aren't the target demographic anymore. It's the 40+ crowd they need to be impressing because unlike kids we will buy multiples and then come back for more when something new is released.
Just throwing this out there. Maybe it's just time to send this back to the guy who bought the original kit and write this one off? If we were all professional model builders that do this all day for a living I can see something like this doing well, but this is a hobby and people get caught up in life.
Thoughts?
Baremetal Foil, Plastruct, Evergreen.
That's it. I don't buy anything else. No PE, no resin, no billet anything.
I use low-buck alternatives from a craft store or I build it from scratch.
How about just painting it up as a '60's hot rod with wide whites painted on the drag tires so that you don't catch the fact that it's a funy car at first. And don't smooth it out, leave the body details.
Just my $.02.
Yeah Mike is right. You have a nice clean build style that a lot of us really appreciate. Silver looks great on everything in my opinion. The only thing I would change is maybe add a black or grey wash to the grill to make it look a little more real. Nice work!
That's just an hour away from me, so I will definitely plan on being there as well. I will be bringing my Gunslinger, Cherry 2K and the Spartan just for you Doc.
I need a little help gang.
When I thought about this build before starting it, I certainly didn't expect the front seats to become a major design stumbling block. But here we are.
The original plan was to do it box stock. However the kit wheels were decidedly poor quality which prompted me to ditch that idea. This kit comes with a stock bench seat and some very funky looking buckets. Now I have tried to get a viable idea out of those buckets but they just suck. A trip into my parts bin turns up almost nothing pre-1963 at all that isn't a bench seat or is expecially small to look lost in that big interior bucket. I have so far resigned myself to using the kit bench seat.
I need some ideas and/or some trade offers if you have something that might work, that you'd be willing to part with. I'm looking for single/bucket seats that would look at home in this car. Thanks in advance.
There are several older Revell 1/25 street rod kits that feature this style rear end. They are based off the works of Lil John Buttera. A'26 Model A sedan/panel, '27 Model A tourer and a '33/34 chopped coupe. They can be had pretty cheaply on Ebay. I have the '33. Shoot me a PM if you're interested in a trade.
