  1. Very cool. Normally I don't care for the ultra clean engine compartment because it eliminates interesting details to look at, but the aluminum panels look very cool.
  2. I respectfully disagree here. At 100 yards or more your average 4 door sedan is nearly indistinquishable from any other. There are some that stand out for one reason or another, but for the most part auto designers haven't taken a real risk since the Aztec. You need to find find new friends if thats the crowd you're in. I don't worry about the judgements of anyone. And you make it sound like having an online discussion/arguement is something only modelers do. I bet you can find threads like this on any hobby/interest forum on the net. Check the HAMB, you'll find some whoppers there. No punches pulled. Go post up a rat rod there, I dare ya.
  3. Nope ya didn't look up the page. Oh and guys, as always, I welcome any critiques or criticisms.
  4. Okay as the weather has turned nasty (humid) for anything but painting of flats, the Jolly Roger is back on the bench. My big delay in this one lately is a design issue I was having with the front seats. I couldn't find anything I liked or that fit the theme decently. I have since found something that might do. More on that later. I have gone ahead and built the chassis and started the engine. I will do minimal detailing on this engine. Just the ignition wiring most likely. I'd like to have this ready for the IPMS Nats in August. If I haven't stated before, the paint job will be all flats (sorry Jim), black with a treasure map mural which will take up the entire surface of the car. I'm going to put the pirate flag on the trunk lid and a compass rose on the hood.
  5. A question for Dave. What are future plans for this kit? I know the stock kit is on shelves and the racing version is in the wings, but beyond that? Custom?
  6. Rare? - you bet. Valuable? - certainly Ground breaking? - yepper Ugly as all get out? - Oh my yes.. I have zero interest in this.
  7. Looking good. I love the wheel choice.
  8. I feel your pain. I use the low-tack blue tape and had it pull Duplicolor off my Studebaker hood while I was making off a stripe. I got so pissed I just chucked the whole thing back in the box.
  9. Whoa, I missed this one. Lovely work. I'll be following this.
  10. Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to starting this build more and more now. I have perused the HAMB, and I've found a lot of tech talk but few photos. Regardless, i have everything I need now. Peace.
  11. Welcome to the forum. Hope to see more from you. The Pontiac looks great.
  12. Yeah, that was a great build off. Lots of great ideas.
  13. Back to the topic. Right now, the companies know where their bread and butter is. The plethora of 30's-50's new tooling coming along proves they know the vast majority of buyers today are the mature crowd. In 20-30 years and that trend changes, they will alter their plans to include cars popular with the mature crowd at THAT time. I don't think the hobby will die off, the subjects will change. Yes fewer kids start the hobby these days, but the hobby will still draw in folks that love cars, have an artistic nature, and can't afford to do it to the real thing, just like the rest of us.
  14. Very nice! I'm a little disappointed you didn't do the fender stripes. Great work.
  15. Yeah, I've yet to see anything on the 3D printing that was rendering a very small part. Not to mention is this material going to be paint compatible?
  16. Whoa, some cool work going on here. I don't usually check out the semi truck threads, but I'll be checking back on this one.
  17. Andy I have seen the model that won last year and met the builder. You are gonna have to bring your "A" game on this one. Make sure your finish is flawless and above all, your photos are top notch. No matter how good your model is, if your pics don't show it off, your work will be for naught. Good luck and it's looking great so far.
  18. I'll shoot you an email and get the details Jim.
  19. Oh no. I will use the heck out of this when this technology becomes available. I have no problems scratchbuilding, but if I need four of something, I'd much rather make one and 3D print the rest.
  20. No one has any problems with ANYONE building what they like. Most of us oldsters are just a little jaded because we come from an era when cars were designed with two things in mind. Horsepower and looks. Every car back then was designed by an artist. Designed to be pleasing to the eye. To be original. Lets face it, most of that sort of thinking has been bred out of modern car designers my rules/restrictions/safety.
  21. Nice work Jim. You are really cranking them out.
