  1. You have to admit on 1/2 of these builds the laws of physics have been thrown out the window anyway, so why worry about the reality of ingress or egress routes? It's all in good fun anyway, but I'll admit it bothers me a bit too.
  2. How about some unwaxed dental floss colored with a silver sharpie?
  3. Justin, thats a good point. I've no idea how to scribe trunk lines once you've lost them in the bodywork. That might be a worth a post in the "How Do I" section.
  4. I would consider this a compliment honestly. I would say that most of use rarely visit threads on subjects they aren't interested in. I just don't enough time to visit everything. So for them to visit the thread and compliment the work even though, "those wheels aren't my bag", I think you should be pleased. The alternative is no reply or feedback at all.
  5. The paint and body work look great. But too me it looks ....... too smooth if that makes any sense. You really lost a lot of detail that help break up all that color. The window trim would have been good to leave and the trunk lines as well. This is just my opinion. If you are happy with this look then more power to ya.
  6. Very good tutorial. But .........the real trick is getting the second one to match.
  7. All true. However, as Terry pointed out, the backlash can be killer. We have a lot of younger modelers lately and its fantastic to see. But as a dad, I know that criticism even the most well intentioned and well put, can really hit a kid hard. And as we have seen some adults handle it even worse. I've tried PM's, but for the most part I never see a responce. As for the post(s) that prompted this, there save been several lately. This why I bumped my "Walk then Run" thread. And I think I'll continue to do so occasionally.
  8. This is the conundrum that faces me frequently here. I'll see a model that could definitely have been done better or I just don't care for the design or the work done to it. Should I say so? So many times I end up with a post that looks like, "Nice engine detail, but your chop top looks bad/mold lines are still visible/whatever". And then I think about it, imagine the potential backlash, and then delete the whole thing. I'm NOT a master modeler and don't claim to be, but I do know good work from bad. Modeling is a learning curve. You get better as you go. I figure the builder has got to know it looks bad and will do better next time. Am I right in this train of thought? Or does it need to be pointed out? As a dad of two teenagers, I've learned IT NEEDS TO BE POINTED OUT. But is it necessary here? A lot of us subscribe to the rule Thumper's Mama made famous. "If you can't say something nice, say nothing at all." Are we doing right as fellow modelers in doing so?
  9. Very well done. Your craftsmanship is excellent! Happy to have you here.
  10. Beautiful work.
  11. I've seen several people on this forum that seem to specialize in a particular type of car. For some it's muscle cars only or drag racers. Others are kustoms or traditional hot rods. Out of curiousity how do you fit into the poll? I have made this poll public so everyone will know how you voted and I have allowed for multiple choices in case you fall into # 1,2,3 but also #4.
  12. In my area of Tampa there is one Hobby Town and he is pretty much the only show in town. It's a good sized place and he caters to most hobbies. His cash cow is RC of course. He is one of the places you can sign up for the Gearz contest and orders extras of the kits for the contest. He keeps a very healthy model car area. About 65-85 kits I figure. The prices though are real high, $25+ per. I do get all my materials and supplies there though. He seems to be doing all right. He's got two full time employees.
  13. Something classy but not crazy. A late 20's to early 40's Duesenberg touring car.
  14. I'm glad too. I was a little afraid I'd get a few "Who are you to say how I build" replies, but not so far. Yep, I just mentioned the younger members because we seem to have gotten several lately. I'm real glad to hear that Andy.
  15. We have a lot of new younger members and I'm seeing a lot of builds recently that are long on added detail but short of craftsmanship, so I figure this bears being bumped now and again. Forgive me if this seems presumptuous.
  16. Laying out the decals and some engine work. Those are the wheels & tires I'll be using.
  17. They will be fine in the purple pond.
  18. Hmm.............according to popular fiction, you need to destroy the head. So I think somehting with a little more weight is needed than a machete, unless it's razor sharp.
  19. WOW! That is just stellar. WHERE DID YOU GET THAT FANTASTIC PAXTON? I've never seen one that well done. Fantastic work.
  20. Photobucket has an app for that.
  21. Why not get a free photo album from Photobucket and make things so much easier? Most of us cannot see what you upload to Facebook.
  22. Doc gave you good advice. In addition, after the primer mist, a shot of dullcoat/matte clear will take any leftover shine and dull it down.
  23. I have a co-worker hwo is very into the whole zombie apoc and he sent me here for the hand to hand anti-zombie tools. www.zombietools.net.
