2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Jantrix replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Great idea. However be advised, I doubt the zombies will give amnesty to a vehicle bearing a red cross. The Geneva Convention goes out the window where zombies are concerned. -
Hey guys, I'm building something for Cranky's Zombie Hunt that at this point is just a big honkin metal frame. I plan on adding armored skins that will be pretty simple flat pieces of stock. However I want to make one, temporarily glue it in place so that when I make all the adjoining pieces they butt up nice. Then remove them all and prime/paint. To glue them temporarily what do you suggest? Elmers? Aleene's Tacky Craft glue? I hate using the blue poster putty. It just makes a mess. I don't want to use tape because as I said I want all pieces to butt up together and tape would hinder that. And then afterward what do you suggest to free them up? Soak in water? Water w/Windex? Or just pop'em off?

You know you don't see a lot of monochromatic builds these days. From a hot rodding perspective that sorta thing died a decade ago. But you sure proved here that it can still be done with some contemporary styling and be cool as heck. Well done.

I think you are doing some great work here and I love the whole idea. However the carbon fiber doors just totally jumped the shark for me. It interupts the whole flow of the vehicle.

That's pretty cool and well exucuted. Maybe add a periscope so the driver can see!

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Jantrix replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Well I started building around 2 oclock today and was doing just fine. Had dinner and had plans to keep building while I watched the Super Bowl. Yeah, like I could do anything while that game was on! Great game! Anyway, here's some scratchin' I got done. -

Ron I really dig the skull cammo. I'm going to shamelessly steal that idea. -
Scratchbuilding: What's your philosophy?
Jantrix replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The problem a lot folks seem to have (and makes the task look that much more daunting) is the amont of time it takes. It's not like snipping of a part, cleaning it up, primer/paint = done. Every part has to be measured, cut, cleaned, assembled etc. This is extremely time consuming. I have to make 8 a-arms for my post-apoc crawler, all identical if I want all four wheels to hit the ground at the same time. I'm not looking forward to it. -
First Muscle Car Kit
Jantrix replied to Stang88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I heartily recommend the Revell 67 and 68 Charger kits. When it comes to accuracy and ease of build, you just can't do much better. I'm told the Revell 69 Shelby Mustang is also excellent. -
Nice work!! I really like it fenderless.

Congrats Bart. Virg, I did the same thing for a kitten about 20 years ago. The lil fella did fine after we pulled a few teeth that were growing in screwy. How did your pup turn out? EDIT: Oh sorry to hear that.

Rylan, that looks great! Anything you can do about the mold lines on that tank? -

Here ya go. I was just slingin' some styrene tonight. Here's the Puma ATRV as she sits now. -
When I was a kid in NY, I met two New York heroes Joe Namath and Reggie Jackson. Years later back in NY for OPSAIL 2000, the parade of tall ships in NY harbor, I was a Coast Guard boarding officer and got to meet Ann Margaret. I'll never forget what I said to her. "Ma'am, you need to move your boat please."

Any hobby shop should carry sheet, and a variety of rod stock by Evergreen or Plastruct. Or you can Google the websites for either and mail order. Or you could build the bed out of wood and just use popsicle sticks or something. This was done with balsa and basswood. -
For every bad club there is a good one. I have been affiliated with two excellent ones in Jacksonville for years. Yes, get involved and make sure yours is a great club.

A Plea for a RUST ONLY Section!
Jantrix replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nah, admin cuts into building time. I do think a weathered section would be fine but it would not really improve anything for me. I generally use the View New Content button and check out most everything. I daresay I'm not the only one. -
Well it looks like a muscle car shoot out this time.

I had this kit and it is now spread out over half a dozen builds. I was going to build it but couldn't get past that ugly windshield. Keep it going, so far so good.

Rat Rod Trucks
Jantrix replied to mookie's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
It is Krylon dark blue flat with a couple coats of matte clear to seal the decals. -
Most Chevy small blocks share the same block. They just use a variety of bore and strokes. Find an SBC that you like and use it, call it whatever size was available in 1962. The 327 for instance was released in '62, making it a viable Cannonballer, and everyone knows the 327's are capable of plenty of speed.

Here's a rat and a shop truck I've done recently. -
Ditto. Really enjoying this.
