Working on an OOB build for contest and the knob for the stick shift is just ity-bity. If I was to dip this in epoxy a couple of times to enlargen it, and then sand it round, would it count as modified and there-for no longer OOB legal? Seems to me, it would be fine because I'm just adding something to the existing part which isn't much different than paint or foil. Opinions?

Nick that looks top notch! And dont worry I don't think ANYONE is good at those tire decals. The flattie looks perfect.

I do the same thing but mostly because I do a lot of modifying and some scratchbuilding so multiple test fittings are always the norm. This way when its time to paint, everything fits, the unpainted body goes for a quick dip int he purple pond to eliminate any mold release agent and/or grime from my hands. Then it is primed and painted. As for Bills theory of chassis built for nothing, that just won't happen. If I screw up the paint, it gets dipped and redone. If it get dropped onto the floor wet paint side down, chewed by the dog and then run over by the car, I just get a new body and soldier on.

Ken welcome to the board. Hows the weather up there?
-
Yeah, I just started a '49 and was going to use the rolled pans. I'm jazzed to see that grill fits in the front grill opening. My '50 hood from the kit fits terribly though, I'm going to have to do some work to make it fit well.

That's a crocodile Jim. As far as temperment they are apples and oranges. A salt water croc is one of the meanest things on the planet, right after my wife. And yeah, unless your going to messing around in the palmettos and other trees and bushes, you'll likely never see a scorpion. Be careful around woodpiles too. Yep, they sure are, but they are a timid, rear fanged snake and the fangs are pretty short too. They would have to really get you good to envenomate you. Remember your rhyme to tell them from the king snakes and you'll be fine. "red to black is a friend to Jack, red to yellow will kill a fellow." We teach it in school here.

No way those turbos are big enough.

About two weeks ago (before the cold snap) my son comes into the house and says, "Dad, have you been spraying in the garage today?" I relied, "Nope." His reaction was, "Uh oh." Long story short, a can of Krylon white primer had spondaneously ruptured at the bottom seal and sprayed the contents of a 3/4 full can all over the garage. Paint everywhere. At the time there had been no appreciable temperature changes recently. Any one else experienced this? Any idea what might have caused it?

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Jantrix replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Thanks for showing off my Gunslinger Virgil. That was my first attempt at weathering. Although I wasn't able to make that show, I was able to mail Tommy my build so it could participate in the convoy. Anyone invited him to join us? He doesn't come here that often that I'm aware of. When we did that big build off on the other forum, when the CBP ended the thread was over 400 pages long. It was fantastic. I'm not sure if I'm in on this because I've got so many other builds in the works, but I'll kick the idea around some. -
Yep, that's all part of Florida living. We gotta remember we're living in their habitat not the other way around. The pythons/boas and nutria showing up recently are all non-native species that have been introduced by the illegal tropical pet trade from south Florida. Check out an episode of Animal Cops: Miami and you'll see what I mean. I've shot several water mocassin on my property and killed a couple of rattlers. A 12 gauge with a bird shot load will do the job right. I've studied the wildlife so I know the difference between the good ones and the bad. Fire ants are a constant pain in the posterior I'll admit. Plenty of spiders and scorpions too. And don't sweat the alligators, they aren't interested in people (our dogs maybe). If they are in your kitchen it's likely someones been feeding them and usually animal control will be happy to extract and relocate the offender. Jim, don't sweat the weather. It'll be warming up before you know it.

A MOST POST-APOCALYPSE 2012 TO YOU TOO
Jantrix replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I though it was going to be a CBP anyway Virgil. -
A.R.C. that '57 is a perfect kit for this build off. It has a 312 y-block with a centrifugal supercharger (McCullough I believe) that is just top notch. Great choice.
-
I have something similar planned for my '41 kit. Very nice work.
-
Wow. The custom parts for that kit look like a dramatic improvement to that ugly as heck (IMHO) Dart. Gonna use them?

AMT 49 Ford issues - resolved LOL

Looks like Erik has me hooked up, but I'll holler if I still need one Jim. -
You really have a talent for traditional rods. Fantastic work.

After perusal of my kit, it's official. I'm in with a box stock entry (with the exeption of decals). I'm doing the AMT 49 Ford Coupe. The kit has vintage everything and features a Cadillac 390ci which in 1959 was rated at 345 h.p., which aughta do the job in the "get up and go" department. I'll be using the kit supplied custom parts and will be One Shot lacquer White Lightning with the flame decals from the Revell '49 Merc. Wide whites on painted steelies with beauty rings will take care of the rolling stock. Honestly this kit seems perfect for this CBP.

AMT 49 Ford issues - resolved LOL
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Guys, I thank you for the help and advice, but I found the missing part. It had somehow gotten swept into my desk drawer. Thanks for the advice on the engine and I STILL do need the air cleaner. -
Okay guys, I'm building an AMT 49 Ford and giving serious consideration on building it *gasp* box stock. I've run into a few issues. First - concerning the custom rolled pans with those lil nerf bars - I love them. However the instructions seem to show a rolled rear pan in the picture but no part is available in the kit or shown in elsewhere in the instructions. Was this part available in previous verions/releases? If so DOES ANYONE HAVE ONE THAT THEY WOULD TRADE!? Also the kit comes with a Caddy engine. No information comes with this kit as to which engine it is supposed to represent. Anyone have an idea? Lastly, I used the tripower air cleaner for another build. Does anyone have one they would trade?

Lets not forget all those mothballed moonshine runners that would still have been around in '62.

Thinking of some new CBP ideas(updated OP)
Jantrix replied to martinfan5's topic in Community Builds
The old "dream car" build. THIS is a good idea. -
A quick Google search reveals that radial tires were available throughout the 1950's so don't think you have to use just narrow bias-ply looking tires for this CBP. But as Slant has pointed out, a bare sidewall would look more authentic.
