  1. Foiling wasn't so bad. Here's one of the decals I'm going to print for this one.
  2. Foiled. Hard to see with the gold nd lousy lighting. Time to start work designing the livery.
  3. Whoa! I love it when someone joins the forum and blows our mind with something cool! Great work and welcome to the forum.
  4. WHAT A BEAUTY!!!!! Fantastic work.
  5. Yep, this is a Revell Monza kit that was Frankensteined onto a Pontiac stock car chassis. I had a blast building this and was one of the few that was done start to finish with no breaks for other kits.
  6. Wow, Jim, you've really got the painting down now and you're really started getting creative. Very nice.
  7. Okay she is painted and foiled. Because of the shade of gold used, the foil is doesn't really pop. I'm going to spend the evening designing the racing livery for the Carrera Panamericana.
  8. Oh man, I have forgotten how much I hate foiling.
  9. Thanks guys, I'll be hitting this all weekend. Foil, decals, and then clear.
  10. I painted the green today. Looks very good but theres a definite separation line from the tape edge. Is there a good way to knock this down? Maybe some high grit (3k+) sandpaper, really gently after the paint has had time to cure? I think this is too much for some clear to blend in.
  11. Okay guys the second color is on and frankly I think it came out great. Lots to do still.
  12. John, you've impressed me in the past, but this is hands down my favorite work of yours. MAGNIFICENT is not too strong a word.
  13. That is some seriously nice work. It's beautiful.
  14. Bare Metal Foil has a shelf life. Order some direct from the manufacturer for best results. It is tricky to use, and takes practice. You just can't build a classic car without it.
  15. The larger scale kits are a great idea. Also as you Dad is building he's gonna be working on the one handed issue at the same time. So if he's as sharp as you say, he's gonna be coming up with ways to beat the problems as he goes, that you or I wouldn't have thought of. So talk to him a lot, he's gonna figure it out. Send our best wishes to your Dad and tell him we're all pulling for him.
  16. Your best bet is to keep the boxed kit ON the workbench. That way it's not out of sight, out of mind. This way you're always kicking that problem around in the back of your mind. Eventually you'll figure out a fix and get back to it with renewed enthusiasm. This is an EXCELLENT point. My 18 year old son struggles with this big time. He compares his work to mine and thusly takes on some seriously advanced projects. Then he gets pissed when there are problems. He has a load of nearly-builts because one or more things were'nt perfect. It doesn't help that he's competing against adults now in contests either. I truly believe that at some point you need to just come to grips with the fact that "this model just isn't going to be perfect, but I learned a lot building it" and finish the darn thing. There's a fella here who has a very wise saying in his signiture line. "Every model I build is just practice for the next one."
  17. Yep, as modelers we've got a lot to be thankful for recently, so everyone eat hearty and come back to the bench and get busy!
  18. Nope. To give you a hint, it'll be called a "steely" instead of a "woody". I've done some woodwork recently in some of my builds and want to do this a little bit differently. An industrial look. This is the hot rod version Chuck. I'm still going to want to get it in the weeds though.
  19. Thanks guys. I have an idea that doesn't involve wood so no worries there. Thanks for the advice.
  20. Thanks. I had no idea those existed. I'll make those a favorite.
  21. A quick Google search on this kit reveals very little aside from the fact that it seems to have a very high ride height. That is something I shall have to remedy.
  22. I have some holiday time off (paid )coming at the end of this year and my wife has to work through most of it, so I was kicking around the idea of doing a quickie build - one week. Which I have not done since I was a boy. I was thinking about a "nearly" box stock version of the AMT 41 Ford Woody. That being said, from the folks that have built this one before are there any inherent issues with the kit I should be aware before I try this? Fitment, mold issues, bad engineering? Thanks very much.
  23. Very interesting. Looking forward to seeing more.
