  1. I think from time to time, this needs a bump.
  2. Tyler, you did ask for feedback so I'm going to give you some. Please don't take this as a personal attack. I promise you it isn't. I'm just trying to help. 1. Take your time. The fingerprints in the paint tell us you rushed through this. 2. Learn to build cleanly before you start customization projects. Without clean building no matter what you do to the build no one is gonna be blown away with your work. I'm speaking of things like the mounting tabs still visible in the bottom of the rear bumper. I'd like you to have a look at this thread. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=44595&st=0 Honest words from a lot great builders. Please don't get upset and discouraged. Getting better takes practice and discipline. I'm just trying to help.
  3. Very cool. Since it's a stalled project, why not join our stalled project CBP? http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=49084
  4. Oh cool. I found my original build thread. Here's where I am now. Hope to get paint on it this weekend.
  5. Valid point. It is hard to say. However we all know that certain kits have garnered a ....... reputation over the years. And listening to my fellow builders concerning any kit is never a bad idea. But I will of course see for myself eventually.
  6. "some who grew up in the era are so spoiled now by some of the new" Oh man, is this gonna be one of those, "When I was a kid we had no shoes and had to walk to school in the snow, uphill, both ways!", kinda stories? "You ever stop and think that just maybe threads like this one is why we will see even less kits mastered in the future?" Umm......no. Quite the opposite. As they are now catering more toward the experienced mature builder, they know we have made due for a lot of years with bad kits that when they offer us new tooling we will buy it like crazy. And they are right. "It is one thing to suggest changes in future kits but when you are this critical it will give manufactures pause in re releasing old kits" Perhaps. But in reality they already know which old kits will sell and which won't. This ain't a new hobby. If this thread will help the companies decide what to release - groovy. I'd rather have a better kit, wouldn't you? "when it is a few naysayers that are really doing all the whining! Threads like this are pretty disheartening to say the least!" Nobody is whining. We are sharing our collective building experience and I for one have learned a lot. I found out that I have two kits that I haven't started yet, that I now know are gonna give me issues. So I will set those aside for rat rods or junkers. I find that rather heartening actually.
  7. Most impressive.
  8. Nice work! Great advice.
  9. Okay guys time to fess up. Every time I see the posts of 12+ kits posted in the "what I got today thread" I'm thinkin', "Wow, glad someones got the cash to spend." How many of you spend more on (any) hobby related materials than is financially healthy for you? I see you guys with the 500+ kit collections and I gotta wonder. We've talked about the whole "hoarding" thing before, but what I see here sometimes borders on a compulsive spending disorder. Discuss please.
  10. Love this one.
  11. Very cool. It looks period perfect.
  12. Absolute proof there is no such thing as over-doing it in scale modeling. Well done.
  13. Harry you are having way to much fun with this stuff. How about the polar opposite? One for super-detailing over-acheivers?
  14. Finally some sucess on my Studebaker. I was having trouble with the bodywork on the stinger hood scoop spliced into the Stude hood ghosting through the primer. I really hate bodywork. My hat is off to anyone who does flawless work. A quick wetsand and then some Duplicolor Beige Pearl.
  15. Wow. This is going in a much different direction than I thought. Very cool.
  16. Whoa. I have done the same sort of welding with strip stock and Tenax.
  17. Thanks Wayne. Hmm............just realized there isn't a catagory for my post-apoc or deathrace type stuff. And I didn't use two different bodies for them.
  18. Anyone know what TIME this one is happening?
  19. I really like where this is going. The Avanti has always been a favorite for me. Some people grow up in a Ford or Chevy family. For me it was Studebaker. I love everything about this car except the wheel well openings. When I build my kit, I'm going to splice in some Vette openings.
  20. The Revell '67 Charger is the nicest kit I have ever built as far as fit & finish, accuracy and mold quality. The kit is a breeze to build.
  21. The Revell Henry J, AMT Rat Packer Chevy II and the old Revell 57 Chevy with all the opening doors and windows were my biggest pains. The Revell IMSA Monza/Camaro/Mustang kits are also particualry nasty. The AMT 66 Mustang, and the 73 Cougar I have been able to make nice models from with a lot of customizing and kitbashing, and they are perfectly suited for that. I have the AMT 67 GTO and the Revell 56 F-100 in my stash, so thanks for the heads up on those.
  22. I'd like to know what you are using for filler. And what did you make the eyebrows from?
