By brush painting do you mean a paint brush or air-brush?
-
Like the title says, what kit(s) have you bought and parted out the most? And for what reason? Tell us what is so great about them. For me it is the ..... AMT 73 "Black Cat" Cougar. They are cheap and easy to find. The 429ci engine is excellent and the chassis when cut down works well in the AMT 66 Mustang Coupe. AMT '70 Superbee Pro-street. The chassis and engine are excellent and work great under most 1/25 scale full size Mopars with little modification.

Mustang II front suspension

I was assuming he was talking about the '37 Ford kits because I know they come with IFS. Sorry for the confusion. -
Mustang II front suspension
Jantrix replied to Devilsnake98's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For one thing the Revell '37 kits are 1/24 scale, so that option isn't going to work for you either. Second, aftermarket parts are of course fine, but don't forget that buying kits just for parts has a lot of other advantages. You can get a 1/25 Corvette kit for less than $10 on ebay most any day of the week. Use the front IFS today. Next time the engine, next build the seats, etc. When you look at it that way, it's way more economical to get parts kits than it is to buy aftermarket. -
For one, you shouldn't be clear coating with windows installed. Sounds like you've already assembled it. Clear over chrome parts isn't a good idea. So disassemble as much as you can, tape over everything you can't take apart that isn't a painted body part. For the future it should go something like this. Paint Bare Metal foil decals clear polish assemble touch up polish And yes, a couple coats of clear WILL help blend in the decals. However, your best bet regardless of the type of paint/decals/clear you use, when you prime/paint the body, do the same to a plastic (styrene) picnic spoon. When you apply decals take a spare decal from the same sheet and add it to the painted spoon. Clear the spoon first. That way you know the clear is compatible with the paint and decals.

Doyushi 1969 BlueBird (Warning! DOH in Progress.)

I really like it. Nice work. -
Tyler, I really love the vision you have of this build. I love the pro-touring look, the two-tone, and where did that awesome scoop come from? But I've got to tell you the whole project has a look of being rushed. I'm seeing ejector pin marks in the interior cup. Mold seams. Improperly placed parts, chipped/scratched chrome and finger prints in the paint. And LOTS of paint. Slow down. Learn to build cleanly first. If this hobby has a cardinal rule, a cornerstone skill, a mantra if you will, it is this. Build it cleanly. Every level of expertise we attain as modelers is built from this foundation. Please do not take this as a personal attack or overly judgemental, I assure you it is not intended as such. If I can help you in any way, please do not hesitate to shoot me a personal message. I'm happy to help.

securing the shell to the body?
Jantrix replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I always do. I use just enough glue to get the job done. I do a few contests so it needs to be sturdy for the traveling. Not to mention being handled at the tables by me at the very least. -
I'm really looking forward to this.

You know I generally get derisive when I see a builder with "master" in his screen name. And we've seen a few use that moniker and it's never too long before someone calls them on it. However Mark, you are among a few I can name where the title fits. Your work is always beyond reproach. Great work.

Yeah, what he said!

Fingernail Polish. Yes, but...
Jantrix replied to Lunajammer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Luna, I don't know what kind you used, but nail polish is a VERY hard finish. If your's stayed soft, then there is something wrong. It should dry very quickly. -
Yeah, nice work. I have a panel version of this kit. I'm not really looking forward to tackling it, but I gotta say, you did us proud on this one.

I repaired the Stude today, primered, sanded and painted. The body looks 1000% better but the hood continues to confound. After I paint the second color I'll get some pics up. The green color will be painted like the silver is in this pic.

Where do I get a Motor?
Jantrix replied to little dog daddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just took a look at those PTX engines. http://www.phoenixtoys.com/Update%20Site/HobbyGear/28001N.htm They do not compare a carefully built kit engine at all. They look very much like little toys, with rubberized hoses and wires. I'll pass. -
Terry, you and your vast list of WIP's are of course welcome. For future reference, no permission of any sort is required for this CBP, just post up some pics and get to it. We're glad to have you.

Some great work still going on here folks. Some work on the Stude. I'll feather the edges of the primer with some 3600 grit tomorrow, rinse and hit it with another light coat of paint. We'll see how it looks.

Where do I get a Motor?
Jantrix replied to little dog daddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dillon, you are going to have to give us a little better description of your needs. In case there is any confusion, we don't buy these motors already wired. If you want one you're going to have to learn to do it yourself. -
Man, he draws too. Gary, you should get those inked. Very cool.
-
Nope, keep this going. If it stays active in any way, even if its just you, people will join. "If you build it, they will come."
-
Me too. What IS wrong with us?
-
Doh! Quite right, sorry.

How Do You Display Your Completed Models?
Jantrix replied to Swifster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm going to need a custom sized case for my shop truck trailer combo. I'll have to find a local company.
