  1. John if you already don't know, find out the builder of the original bike and send them some pics of what you have done here. It's just incredibly stunning.
  2. The AMT 49 coupe comes with two engine options. A flathead and what I'm pretty sure is a 390 V8. The radiator has two mounting points at the top for the radatior hoses from the flathead. For the 390, there is this wimpy little y-pipe that goes from the top of the waterpump/timing cover to the two ports on the radiator. With this y-pipe exactly how is coolant gonna flow as there is no lower radiator hose? I'm not a mechanic so I'm just going on common sense here. This seems wrong to me.
  3. Welcome back to the fold, Jay. Well done.

MOST IMPRESSIVE! That's got a boatload of attitude. Well done!
  5. Very cool Virgil. I can't wait to see it cleared and some outdoor shots.
  6. I appreciate the opinions and everyones help with the matter.
  7. Lowered the rear just about one scale inch, and am really happy with the rake.
  8. Well, I have added a 1mm block and am now happy with the rake. Thoughts?
  9. Okay guys, thats where I was going too. I'll add a 1/8 inch block between the springs and the axle and see where she sits.
  10. Guys I'm building a 49 Ford Coupe for the Cannonball set in 1962. I lowered the front with the though of having a car with a mean rake. A very dated concept. However I'm having second thoughts. So I'd like you guys to weigh in. Rake or no rake for this build? Or maybe just a bit less rake?
  11. I'm in the local area. The House of Hobbies in Palm Harbor and Phil's Hobbies in Clearwater are the local modeling watering holes. A Google search will net you addresses. They are both within 30 minutes of St. Pete.
  12. Okay some updated shots. I got a wicked rake and I love it. Hoping for some decent paining weather. If not I'll get the interior flocked (a first for me) and the seats painted.
  13. For me it's the meeting of two interests. I love cars - period. I also have a serious right brain need to be creative, to be artistic. Automobiles have spoken to people with the same afflictions since the first car rolled.
  14. Great info guys. Thanks very much. Chuck that's exactly what I'm thinking about.
  15. You had posted these pics on the post-apoc thread so I was worried that you would turn this groovy kit into something cruddy ...........on purpose I mean. I always save my bad kits for WW3 stuff. I'm very happy that you are going to build it as a hot rod. It looks like you are going to move the rear diff back some. Give us more info on your plans please.
  16. Thanks very much Ken, thats exactly what I've got in my minds eye, just more cluttered. Hmm. Doing something similar with a peaked roof might be a serious challenge, having to cut trusses in half and so forth.
  17. Dave, thanks very much! I have that book..........................somewhere. Thanks for the advice Ed.
  18. I've offered to build a new manger of my moms ceramic nativity scene this coming x-mas, and decided I'd buy enough basswood to do a garage dio while I'm at it. I built a 37 Chevy garage find hot rod last year and now I want to do the garage it was found in. I want to do a small one car detatched garage that looks very old and has been closed for a long while and is just filled with old junk around and even on top of the car. Like some of those awesome places those American Pickers guys go. However I want to do it sort of cut-away style. We'll be able to see in the open doors, but I want a better view from the top and side. However I'm at a loss as to how to do this without making the building look damaged. I want it to LOOK like the wall/roof have been removed/altered for viewing. Has anyone done something similar who might give me a few pointers?
  19. Viper rat rod. Nope that doesn't compute for me. A rat rod is generally a low buck rod, but its your model. My thoughts are try to find someone who will sell/trade/give you the parts you need in the WANTED section here. Make sure you list the parts needed, and note the kit number so people know they have the right parts. OR..........we have a Post Apocalyptic build off running in the Community Builds section, that would be a perfect kit for that. Good luck.
  20. Notice I didn't say "best builders", just "best group of builders". Everyone knows we can't build our way out of a wet paper bag, Zen.
  21. Yep, the vintage AMT kit came with a REAL nice tri-powered y-block fully chromed out. I'm not sure if the Lindberg version of this kit still comes with it.
  22. Dave, glad you could drop by. We all know how life gets in the way of such things. We would love for you to return to the fold once again, but if not, based on the interest here, another run next year looks like a safe bet. I am so very glad we were able to get our core group of Cannonballers to come over to this forum. The best group of builders on the net, on the best forum.
