  1. Marshall, in my pic you'll notice that I did a bit of work on the center bulge in the hood. Those little louver looking things in the hood drop quite low. A tall engine that doesn't taper towards the front like a TPI will cause you clearance issues. The hood was designed with a single carby engine in mind.
  2. Welcome to the forum. You will find a lot of great work here. If you want to see a plethora of finished models I recommend you peruse the "Under Glass" section. When you find a builder that you like, check his signiture line. Often you will find a URL to his photo album and then you can see that persons collected work. Much easier and faster than waiting for folks to post up pics in this thread that have already been posted in another section. We look forward to chatting with you and seeing your work.
  3. Lemme give you a for instance of what I have heard/read. JoetheModeler has recently joined ScaleHoopdies.com and has posted a question. After about a day he has recieved a half dozen replies concerning his question. To which he replies, "Wow!. Thanks guys, great info. I asked this same question over at MCM but was entirely ignored. I guess you have to be in their "inner circle" to get any attention. And I think David has just proven the point. Perhaps we need to pay more attention to posts with a zero reply count? Especially if we notice a high view count? As was said, we have a large gathering of excellent builders. Shouldn't we be the ones to provide the ataboys for the less experienced?
  4. Now that I like. The shaved body with the skinny whites and excellent wire wheels are just spot on. Great work.
  5. Jerry over the last several years we've seen oodles of fantastic shots of your vintage stockers, and they are always a step or two beyond everyone else, regardless of their building expertise. But perhaps conveying this idea of yours would be better done via email with Gregg and/or Harry. Just an idea.
  6. This looks like a great project. Keep us posted.
  7. Wow. You're actually gonna build it box stock? That's some dedication. I thought the interior (shared by an IMSA Mustang if you can believe it) chassis, suspension, and engine were so poorly done as to be a waste of styrene. I did however use the excellent body for my Cannonball project. I look forward to seeing you pull this off.
  8. I hate to be a killjoy but.........................away from MCM, this forum is regarded as "By experts, for experts, all others summarily and politely ignored". Mind you this is not my opinion but what I have read on other forums and chatrooms. It seems beginner and intermediate builders feel intimidated and ingored when they post a build here and get only two replies saying "Great work!" Yes, we have an enormous who's who of scale auto here, but many builders feel that they can't get the attention of the movers and shakers here unless they are bulding on that level. I just thought I'd bring this up. I for one haven't had this experience, but I've heard it enough to be concerned. I've always enjoyed the folks here, and I hope the feeling is mutual.
  9. Jaxcon is this weeknd, so I thought I'd give this a bump.
  10. Marcus, I think that you will find that although this forum is not as "rigid" as the other mag forum, most people tend to avoid troublesome issues. There was some political discussion during the election but with such a huge "elephant in the room" so to speak it was impossible not to talk about. But all in all it was pretty uneventful banter. Your best bet would be to avoid any non-model related thread that would inspire you to add your $.02, potentially adding gasoline to the fire. This is advice that I take myself.
  11. I was all up this idea with a kit picked out and everything until I saw the 1937 and older rule. I think you are pushing a LOT of cool builds out of the picture. I mean what could be cooler than a 41 Willys roadster? If it were up to me, 1948 would be a much better cut off. My $.02
  12. She's done. Check it out. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...t=0#entry154976

    The Spartan

Well she's finally done. It's about as far from my original vision as you can go. I'd originally planned a huge gold vehicle with red graphics the SPARTAN! But once I laid the gold, I hated it. Only the remaining detail from the the original idea is the gold shield with the Spartan Lambda symbol. Over the terrible gold I laid several colors of enamels in splotches, then added some rust colored acrylics. The I sprayed it with water and added the sea salt. When it was dry I sprayed satin black. I then gave it a good scrubbing with rubbing alcohol to remove the salt and to feather the edges of the paint chips. As well knock down the shine a bit. She recieved a couple of washes and some detail painting. Offensive capabilities consist of the twin .50 caliber machine guns and an octet of short range missiles which are all scratch built. Defensive capabilities are a smoke machine that uses a fine ground pepper in the mix which will be uncomfortable for anyone to get a snootful of. In the rear bumper are four nozzles for deploying a type of oil slick which is made using a precise mixture of witch hazel, cod liver oil, and KY jelly. It is particularly effective and the EPA is cool with it. Here's some pics, I hope you like it. More pics here. http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g73/Jant...athrace%20300C/
  14. In my LHS yesterday I spotted a fellow in a full leg (ankle to hip) cast talking to the manager of the store. The manager is long time friend of mine and mentioned what happened to the guy as I was checking out. Seems the guy (RC planes hobbiest) had decided to use his Dewalt shop vac as the exhaust for his paint booth. It worked great for several months. And then one day it exploded on him. Bada boom. The top of the vac (where the motor is) slammed into him breaking his right femur (upper leg bone) destroying his right knee and get this.....................rupturing his right testicle. Yeah, my insides cramp up just thinkin' about it too. The moral of this story? Use the right tool for the job as my Dad would say. Make sure you have a motor that is safe to pull combustable gases and fumes through. The consequences could be.....................well. There you are.
  15. DEATHRACERS! Prepare for GLORY! That's right gang, the Spartan is back in the race. I have aquired a 300C on Ebay for an absurdly low price to replace the chassis I ruined. Gonna do some weathering on the body to lose the ugly gold color and we'll see what develops.
  16. This is a great Superbowl for me, because I have no likes or dislikes for either team, so I'll just get to watch it and enjoy a (hopefully) great game. My Buccaneers choked big time late season and that just killed me. But one great thing came out of it, that knucklehead Jon Gruden in history. Man, I miss Dungy. Enjoy the game everyone.
  17. I'm still waiting to see the Deathscalade.
  18. I was Googling some hot rods a while back and spotted a duece that had the front axle way out in front of the grill mounted on two half-leaf springs? I'd didn't hink much of the idea at first, but I have an idea crawlin' around the back of my head, and now I can't find the picture again. What is this sort of suspension called? I can imagine from the fact that it is not more widely used, that it doesn't work very well. But it sure does look cool. Any help would be appreciated.
  19. Duplicolor has an orange engine paint that looks spot on.
  20. The two local IPMS clubs here in Jacksonville throw a big show every year. Lately the scale auto has been getting more and more entrants and thusly; attention. It's mostly military stuff there but maybe some day we can show up those silly rivet counters. If I can sneak the idea past the wife (it's on Feb. 14, Valantines Day) I plan on attending. It's at the UNF campus here in Jacksonville. Here's the IPMS calendar with more info. http://www.ipmsusa.org/MemberServices/Even...alendarList.asp
  21. A rat rod with a blower? Man wasn't there a rant about that recently? Looks interesting.
  22. Great topic. For me it's the AMT 1925 Model T double kit. Back in the mid eighties my grandfater gifted me with this kit when I was 14 or so. He'd had it since 1960 or so tucked away for "someday". And being 14, I kit bashed it, created monster machines and had them apart and changed a dozen times. I'm sure they ended up in a landfill somewhere. But now as an adult and knowing how rare that kit was, I feel bad for what I did to it. A few years ago Grandad passed on and left me a nice little sum which we plopped down on our first home. As a was of saying thanks I purchased an incomplete 25T double kit on Ebay and built a rod up in a way I though Grandad would have liked. I'm very happy that this kit will finally see store shelves again. I'm going to buy an extra one to stick in the closet for "someday" and give it to my my grandson (if I have one) so he can kit bash the heck out of it too.
  23. My son has one named Thorn. And yes, you certainly do want to handle them daily. Move slowly when handling them and if the skin on his head and neck turns black, keep any body part you want to keep away. The black color change means he is frightened or pissed and he will give you a bite you won't soon forget. They need two types of light (heat and UV) so definitely read up on the care & feeding. Lastly and most importantly, you will have to get a much bigger enclosure very soon. Like a goldfish the dragon will grow depending on the size of it's enclosure (up to the normal adult size of coarse). If the enclosure is too small then his growth will be stunted and it will harm him internally, which will dramaticly reduce his life span. I'll betcha the pet store guy didn't tell you that one. If you'de like I can take some shots of my sons dragon and enclosure and drop you a PM. If you have any questions, let me know and either myself or my son will help you out if we can.
  24. Thanks guys. I'm in the middle of a work weekend, but I'll be back at it Monday nighy. Tito, I do plan on filling that big fish mouth grill, I just don't know with what yet. I'll have to check my parts boxes and see what kind of chromey bits I can find. I'm also thinking about a 50's bumper under that grill as well.
  25. NOW I KNOW WHAT DO DO WITH THOSE SILLY DONK WHEELS! hehehehehehehe
