  1. Regular house-hold bleach works just fine. Super Clean and Purple Power, both available at auto section of Walmart (also strips paint nicely) will dechrome in nothing flat.
  2. Finished the fringe and put it on the seat with double faced tape. I think it turned out well.
  3. Finished the fringe and put it on the seat with double faced tape. I think it turned out well.
  4. Here is my first attempt at a real cloth scale mexican blanket. The cloth is something I got at work called a Tekwipe. It's a thin lint-free cloth, that we use around the machines. Tomorrow I'll add the the white fringe at the end with some double faced tape and white thread and call it done. The colors were done with FabricMate superfine fabric markers. About $10 for a set of six. What do you think? Does it look right? I'm sorta on the fence, I guess I'll have to see what it looks like on the model.
  5. I'm really liking where this is going. These days everyone is modifying their ride height regardless of whether they can put power to the ground, so it would make a great sleeper. Looking forward to seeing more.
  6. After the modification monster that my Cherry 2000 Mustang was, I want this to be a nice simple hot rod. I'm not a huge fan of chopped tops to tell the truth. Besides, I don't relish the idea of chopping the top and the doors seperately. I have cut out the bed and added some crossmemebers . I'll cut a piece of basswood to simulate a plywood bed floor. I'm going to make a mexian blanket for the seat. And cut out the molded tuck & roll door panels and replace those with wood also. The 312 and wheels/tires are from the AMT 57 Ford Fairlane.
  7. Great looking work. I'm gonna use some of these techniques on a 41 Willys soon.
  8. Finally some pics. This ones called "Leftovers". If made from kits I have bought to get parts for other projects. This is just going to be a early 60's hot-rod-in-progress. I'm going to fab a wooden rack for a pair of long boards. Nothing too complicated just a nice simple rod. The engine is a Ford 312 y-block.
  9. I've been to GT's website recently. He has collected ALL the Krass and Bernie strips and is releasing them. I don't remember the price, but it was pretty reasonable.
  10. Holy smokes! I don't usually check the truck postings as it's not my bag, but the name Pierce Arrow pulled me in. Wow, that is some fantastic work. All the hand formed brass is just awesome. Great stuff, it's almost a shame to paint it.
  11. Well I'm 40 years young. As for not seeing the things done in hot rodding, you'de be right. Much to my disappointment I didn't grow up in an automotive household. No auto shop in the schools either. What I know of cars I've either learned helping friends or with my trusty Haynes/Chilton guides, busting my knuckles on my own 1:1. But I did grow up with a love of the American automobile, even if I can't tell you what 10 to 1 compression means. Even as an adult, the needs of the family, job, home, service, money have always been the wall between me doing and learning on a 1:1. But I do have my models, and that'll do.
  12. It's not low enough! Seriously tho, that looks fantastic. Great work. When is Chopper gonna stop participating by proxy and become a member here?
  13. Not to ague with you J, but there are two sides to this. This forum is not well liked by many folks from that forum. I invited a builder to join us here at MCM and he replied, "No thanks. The MCM forum is by pro-builders, for pro-builders. All others politely and summarily ignored." He feels that the members here are not supportive of beginner and intermediate level builders after his posts/questions went ignored or unanswered. They see the members here as a "clique of keyboard warriors" as well. I spoke to a builder at a show that was of the same mindset. I do not agree with this, but it might show why the immaturity level is higher there. More younger/newer builders who feel more comfortable among others at the same skill/age level. Just food for thought.
  14. It's going to be a period early 60's rod. Wide whites on steelies, lowered suspension, 312 Y-block, primer grey. I'm going to fab some surf boards and a rack for them. Very Jan and Dean. Thanks Scott. I agree completely. I look forward to seeing your dio.
  15. Pete that looks great. I have the same kit, and was wondering what to do with that whole roof "issue". This is a great idea and I even have a spare 67 Chevelle body rolling around somewhere. Great work.
  16. Hey Harry, I had a pic of a mid-50's caddy rod that was my PC background for years! Seems your work is very similar to what I remember. Did you do a copperish colored Caddy? On a side note, Harry you really need to get a Deviant Art page. I'm sure we'd all like to see more.
  17. if you're not already a fan, check out the art of George Trosley. It's right up your alley. Nice work.
  18. Yep this one did indeed have the rear facing sump however the engine would still not fit between the firewall and the crossmember like the little kit flathead did. I would have had to set the engine back, cut into the firewall, rebuild the whatchamacallit, yada yada yada. I wanted a simple build. Cutting the oil pan was simple. I also trimmed up the timing chain cover/water pump as well as the fan belt pulleys so that it would all fit with a fan, in between the engine and radiator. And somehow it manages NOT to look crowded. Color me happy . Pics soon!
  19. What everyone else has said is pretty much true. I do however disagree with the person who said the members are overly critical. I'm a member there and still participate. While there have been some bad pennies over the years, a vast majority of the members there are good folks. Kevin, I think your work would be recieved well there by the folks interested in that genre of modeling. You have nothing to lose by trying. One thing no one has touched on. A rant on that forum is a quaranteed delete from admin. A few rant posts over the years have turned into real debacles, and in responce to that, the admin deletes such things before they get out of hand. Be cool.
  20. Normally I like to build models as mechanically plausible as I can (WW3's and Deathracers aside). If something doesnt fit, well by golly I work on it until it fits and to the best of my knowledge and skills, it is mechanically sound. If you got in, turned the key, it should run and drive true. Last night I broke my rule. I'm building a traditional rod, a Monogram 1940 Ford Pick-up and I wanted the Ford 312 in the car. Nope wasn't gonna fit. The front suspension crossmember kept the engine on an angle with the oil pan laying right on it. Once again the realistic side and artistic side of my modeling brain went to war. I listened to the realistic side on my Deathracer and regretted it, so the artistic side won out. I cut the first four scale inches of the oil pan off and set the block right on the crossmember. Engine is nice and level now, fits perfecto. You really have to look at it hard thought to see what I did. I wanted a simple build, without sweating all the details. Although my realistic side keeps groaning about it, I can't find it in me to be disappointed. What about you guys, what side of this modeling fence are you on?
  21. I recommend painting the black with an automotive lacquer and just leaving it at that. Lacquers have a natural semi-gloss finish. A gloss coat and/or polishing is normally needed to get a great shine from lacquer.
  22. Umm.........if you are a professional photographer and make money selling your work than by all means watermark what you put online. But not your models. This is a modeling site. No one here is going to claim your work as their own, nor blow up your model pics and frame them in the family room. Your non-model stuff on the other photo thread I can understand the watermark. By all means protect your work. But not the models. If I have to try to see the work past the watermark, I'm just gonna click on to the next thread.
  23. So THAT"S where I got those decals from! Thanks dude. Nice work on your builds. Are you going to build something new?
  24. This is looking fantastic. It looks fast when it's standing still.
  25. The wife got me but good. I'm sitting on the couch trying to wake up and the wife enters the room looking grim. So I'm like, "What's up?" She hands me a pregnancy tester and the box. Blue + means pregnant. On the tester we got a blue +. "I've missed my period for seven weeks now", she says. I'm just sitting there with my jaw in my lap. She's had her tubes tied for 13 years. "I spoke to the Doc and he says sometimes the falopian tubes will regenerate." So at this point I have my head between my knees and I'm hyperventilating into a paper bag. The she whispers in my ear. "Amazing what you can do with those fine line sharpies on your work bench. April fool." This gentlemen is why male tigers remain solitary until it's time to mate and then leave afterward. There is no creature more cunning in the world than a woman.
