I'd be interested in buying one in 1:25 scale. No comment on the debacle going on here.

Weathering is not hard and your best bet is to do a little trail and error. Grab up some parts box parts, spray them the appropriate colors and then experiment a bit. You can always give it a dunk in the purple pond, if you need to re-use it later. It all depends on what sort of weathering your doing. A dirty unkept car, would be done a lot different than a old klunker up on cinderblocks since the Carter presidency. Probably the best builder I know that does a LOT of weathering is Mkowa,PhD, and he can be found on another forum. Shoot me an email - jantrix_too@yahoo.com , and I'll give you the URL of that forum. Washes are great, using browns and blacks and greys, as well as good old fashioned dirt. Use a kitchen strainer to filter yourself some real fine dirt or sand and then apply some thinned white glue to the areas you want to show a little build up, and sprinkle it on. There are companies that make weathering kits, and/or kits to add rust. I did some mild weathering on this build, just by a little trail and error, it's not hard. Good luck.

I've seen that kit on Ebay several times. I've been sorely tempted to go for that one, and your not helping my self control very much. Real nice work. Looks spot on perfect. Although a 1:1 version of that, would probably get the owner chased out of town by the local muscle car club.

Jairus Inspired Build
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey Bob thanks for the reply. The saltie as you see it is being scrapped and turned into something quite different. However, in response to your inquiry, check this pic. The wheel wells are indeed filled in, but the front wheels still had to be able to turn fully, so I sorta dished the area to give the wheels room and still maintain a smooth(er) body side. I realize now that the idea of this particular build was flawed as soon as I channeled the body over the chassis. The interior bucket was now so shallow, that even an average sized driver would sit up way high in the wind. Not to mention the body is wedge shaped but in the wrong direction. So I'm gonna hack it up, and create some sort of oddball rat-rod. You'll see, I'll post pics, when I get started on it. Thanks again for the comments. -
Nice to see the old AMT double kit coupe again. It's a very rare kit. I've a build up too, it's in my Photobucket if your interested. Although I'm not a huge rat-rod fan, that's some nice work.

For lacquers Tamiya, Duplicolor etc. Sand several spots down to the primer and let it soak, the PP or CSC will eat at the primer and then disolve it under the paint. The paint comes off in sheets afterward. Yes, it will take longer than enamels.

Jairus Inspired Build
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hmm.. obviously I didn't explain myself very well. Typical of me. I intend to scrap the saltie project, it's not working for me at all. But don't worry there is another in the works. Then I'm gonna cut the rear of the car much shorter, cut the front off of the body off at the firewall. And drop it on a shortened z'ed chassis, and give it a rat-rod look. Like the 53 PU that was built from Jairus' drawing. I'll add a fan, pull the radiator in between the wheels, fab a cool grill and add some 39 Chevy headlights. I hope this gives a better idea of what I intend. Thanks for the comments. I understand that it would not be a true rat-rod, as the subculture has a whole list of do's and do-nots, but I really don't care. PS- yep, I meant a 312. Thanks for the correction. -
Absolutely beautiful. Nice work.

Hey guys here's some shots of a planned salt flats racer that just never sort of panned out the way I wanted. The body was narrowed about 2 scale feet and then dropped over the frame. The engine is a 314 Y-block and I was thinking about chopping it up as it is, shortening it major league in the rear, cutting out everything in front of the firewall, and dropping an old grill on the front. I'm gonna have to scratch the whole frame I'm thinkin. What do you think, is it a decent jumping off point or what? Ideas, comments and critisisms are welcome. http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g73/Jant...innie%20Minnie/ See below for further explanation.

All Hail The Model King!!!!
Jantrix replied to Ken's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Unless I can find an alternative way to get the decals from the Challenger F/C, I'll be getting one too. The decals would finish off at least two Mopar builds that have been needing a final touch. -
And don't forget!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As soon as you finish the project someone will pop a kit of it for ya. Murphy's Law rules! Good luck. I'd check some of the Japanese companies to see what they have available for that platform. I'm often surprised to see what they produce.

Looking For A Particular 60,s Mustang
Jantrix replied to ajulia's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ask the mom-in-law if she has any photos. My family was photo crazyand we have boxes going back 4 generations. Tell her to pull ut the old albums and slides and see what you can find. Good luck. -
Oh yeah! Much better. Awesome build. I really like the color. As for resizing, my Kodak photoeditor allows me to crop them on my PC, upload them to my Photobucket account and resize them there in a keystroke. Very easy.

Trumpeter Bonneville
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yepper thats the plan, man. I'll make it a modern custom, with mid-90's Corvette goodies. It's number 7 on my list of builds now. -
Man I love it!. The dripping red (blood) paint is an awesome touch.

2048 x 1536 (640.05K) !!!!!! Dude, please resize that puppy for us so that we can see more than 20% out it at a time. Looking forward to seeing it!

I've used Gorilla glue for wooden projects and it's quite good. However as it does expand and foam, I can't think of ANYTHING model related that it would be useful for. There are other better products out there.

Trumpeter Bonneville
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Okay the short roofline and too long trunk area DOES bother me aestheticly speaking. However not enough to buy another kit, just to butcher it. So perhaps I'll cut the top off the Bonny and do a Thunderbird-esque roadster? Cover the back seat with styrene and build a couple headrest um..........things. Like on Foose's Speedbird. Whatever ya call 'em. -
Several people I know have mentioned ordering one. So I'm assuming so.
-
Sounds like my kinda film, thanks.
-
Ah, I've never seen that movie. I'll add it to my Blockbuster queue.

According to http://www.imcdb.org/ it's a 82 Bronco (assuming you are refering to the Lil Mule from Romancing the Stone), and then a quick Ebay search revealed the 1981 AMT Bronco and the 1980 Revell Bronco. Good luck and keep us posted.

I've heard conflicting statements concerning the dimensions of the body of the 1960 Bonneville. Some people are adding the roofline from other Chevy's, etc. Can someone in the know-so to speak- please give me the straight skinny please? Is the body correct (or near enough) or not?

I've often wondered - how do you use a styrene model for slot cars? I've seen a few slot car tracks and they move so fast a single wipe out would reduce a model car to scrap in an eyeblink. Seems like an LOT of work for something that can be trash in a few minutes. Please explain.
-
Hmm. Darin you are a wizard of styrene. In my collection of junk builds and kits I have a Pontiac Banshee, 69 GTO and late 90's WS6 Firebird. I may have to try my hand at this kind of stuff. Barely GTO? I'll let you know what I come up with, thanks for the inspiration.
