  1. Okay here's my starting point. AMT Chrysler 300C. No engine/interior detail, parts box wheels/tires, everything else will be scratch built.
  2. I glad you aren't going to use the Californian. It would be a shame to hack into a kit that rare. I would built it, mind you, but more in the manner intended. Very cool hot rod. For a build like this, I prefer using something from the parts box, or at least a kit I didn't spend much on, like the $5 kits from Big Lots. My wife suggested using one of my new 68 Chargers. I almost fainted at the thought.
  3. Yeah looks like it's gonna hit us in Jax on Wednesday, hopefully she'll have run out of steam by then.
  4. Kerc, you just described my life as a modeler. This happens VERY often with me.
  5. Diymirage, the March 1 deadline would help out those people that have to mail order parts, and/or are just slow builders like myself that have limited modelling time and probably have more than just this build in the works. With a cheap kit in hand and plenty of tubing and sheet styrene, I'll probably be able to knock this out in short order (no engine/interior detail helps too) , but I still have to get in family time, home maintenance and my 55 hour work week.
  6. Woo-hoo, Aug 22 is the start of a 4-day weekend for me, so I'm likin that. The rules are also okay with me. Also, as for paint, I'm thinking of something more like the Deathrace 2000 cars. The whole industrial flat black idea seems too easy, and I've done something similar recently. I'll kick it around some. More later.
  7. Also mounting the camera on a tipod or stack of books or something. With the macro setting any tremble in the hands will cause a blurry shot.
  8. I'm planning a 55 Ford Coupe (the Shoebox pro-mod kit) on a stock car chassis and a 427 hemi, all outa the parts box. The rest of the build is still in the brain-storm phase. Most likely no interior detail though, since it's a chopped body and most the windows will be closed up anyway. EDIT- change of plans. The pro-mod body is such a glued up mess, my son build it about 5 years ago, he was 10, that the things I want to do to it would take twice the work. So I'm going to use the AMT 2005 Chrysler 300C.
  9. I think you are thinking of my Gunslinger. This was done for the Post WW3 CBP on the other magforum. As for this little build off- count me in. Now the planning begins.................................. What was the determination on kit supplied or kit bashed weapons? Or are we just scratching them? As for the end date, I'm not a quick builder, but this might go faster that your average build. So Dec would probably be okay- but March would be better.
  10. How about adding the fasteners before paint and then clean them off with thinner after paint. It would be a tricky thing but it might give you the look you're wanting.
  11. Real nice work Jeryd. Looks great.
  12. I'll be the first to ask the big stupid question. Some kits are near impossible to build with the engine mounted to the chassis or with the front and rear bumpers/roll pans etc. attached until the chassis is inside the body. Have you followed the instructions well or did you maybe jump the gun a bit and add something that needed to be put off until final assembly. Sometimes it tells you to add the radiator last so that you have clearance room. I'm only asking this as I've done this very thing myself- recently!
  13. Yep, sounds like you need a break. And to me it sounds like you need a pack up the boxes, turn off the PC, get outa the house kind of break. Modeling is what we do to recover from the rigors of everyday life, it should not be a replacement for everyday life. Sending you a PM.
  14. It might be a great way to offset your pension, but I don't think you could make a living at it. Great looking car though.
  15. The thought of trying to put a decal onto a ribbed surface like that gives me the shivers. I recommend that you create a stencil, draw it on and then carefully hand paint the symbol.
  16. Yep, the AMT 57 lends itself to all sorts of possibilities.
  17. It's a shame what this reality TV craze has done to people. Very few families or businesses have benefited from having one in their lives. We can see what it did to the Hogan family. It paints very differnet pictures of what people are like in reality..........except for Ozzy. A lot of the drama that goes on is set up by the TV folks often to the detriment of the people involved. It's a terrible thing that the worlds view of Boyd was what we saw on TV. I got a chance to meet a couple of guys from his show at the Coddington trailer at the Goodguys show here in Jax, FL. They also mentioned that Boyd was a heck of a nice guy, and not at all like his TV persona. My best wishes to Jo and the rest of his family. I for one though am glad, that his hot rod shop is closing. Without Boyds creativity and work ethic, it's just another hot rod shop.
  18. Try Krylon Crystal Clear acrylic. You can spray it over anything, it dries quick, polishes well. Available in any WalMart paint section.
  19. Hmmm..........
  20. Superglue is ###### fun stuff. It help you lose parts in the most fun ways. Last night I lost a part while glueing it (big fingers) and could not find it anywhere. Searched for an hour, finally gave up and threw the kit in the box and went to bed pissed off. I found the part this morning as I dressed for work, glued to the top of my shoe.
  21. Very cool. fantastic work.
  22. I use a silver and red Prismacolor pencil to bring out interior details and gauges. They are available in any arts and crafts store for about a buck each. And then a little Future over the top of it.
  23. Great work! How about a hammock hanging between the trees? Some evergreen tube at either end with a piece of thin cloth stretched between and a little kite string to hold it all up.
  24. Then how about posting the URL's to the pics in your photo album?
