  1. Interesting question, Harry. I was wondering the same thing. There seems to be a lot of gray between the definition of a "show" and a "contest". Why do they call them "dog shows" when the dogs and their handlers are clearly competing for an award? The same thing goes for many "car shows". Something gets judged and an award is given. For the longest time, the NNL West in Santa Clara only had a "People's Choice" award. That was it! The attending people, not a set of judges, picked their favorite model by ballot and the award was given at the end of the day. Over the past few years we've added "favorite picks" by magazine "A", then magazine "B", NNL host "A", then NNL host "B"… It doesn't affect me personally if I get an award or not, but in doing so, it does start to move us away from the original intent of the NNL which is "show only". I think that part of the motivation for the "award" session is tied to the sponsor's desire for recognition and the adjoining swap meet that helps cover a significant portion of the expenses associated with conducting the NNL. The awards often draw in some of the more accomplished builders, and by keeping people around for the awards given out at the end of the day, you promote additional sales at the swap meet tables. So with all of that said, my vote is for anything that is designated as an "NNL" event should be "show only". No awards of any kind. Anything that provides an award should be called a "contest". That way we eliminate the gray and no one gets a false sense of what the event is for or about. Regards,
  2. Very nice color and wheel choice, Aaron!!
  3. Very nice color and wheel choice, Aaron!!
  4. Looks like these guys pretty well covered it all! Great build, Andy!! Thanks for sharing and I really look forward to seeing what you've got planned next!!
  5. Very nice build, Jonathan!! I'll bet there were a bunch of the new '49 Mercs at the NNL East!
  6. Michael, Unless you're going to super detail it, the only thing I watch for is making sure that the opening for the windshield is clean and claer of any flash before you paint it. If you don't, you'll have trouble getting the BMF to stay on the windshield when you go to install it in the car. Other than that, follow the instructions and have fun! That's one of Revell's best kits for "ease of assembly"! Later,
  7. I use general purpose ammonia that I get at the hardware store. It works well. Windex (which contains ammonia) also works well, but is a bit more expensive and doesn't strip the chrome as quickly.
  8. Cool pics!! Thanks for sharing!!
  9. Thanks for the GREAT pics, Nick!! I was a bit surprised to see a couple "straight from the box" Danbury Mint cars and the GMP 1:6 scale flathead V8...maybe some day I'll take some out to show...
  10. Sounds like a plan, young man. Stay cool. You know how to reach me if you need help. Later,
  11. Yeah..."teach me, teach me!!" I'll leave it at that...this is a family rated forum...
  12. Yeah...but then I'd send it to my friend, Al Monthei. There is no one I know that can BMF as good as he does. That guy can BMF a scale football and not have any wrinkles or cut lines visible when he's done!! Amazing!!
  13. Jim, That's one wicked looking Monte!! It loooks like you're off to a good start. I Better get moving on my T-Bolt!
  14. Oh Milt...You know, there's still time to round up a couple of them Hooter's girls...I'm sure that they can give us some real "pointers" to consider!
  15. Yeah...you're right...it's that wacky woman that seems to want to talk to us whenever we meet for lunch at the pizza place and she's there...she's spooky... She makes me want to wear a big shirt with my wife's picture on it with a caption that reads "Leave him alone...he's married and has no money!!" ...not that I'm sure she can read...
  16. I'll second that!! The '61 is one of my favorite early Chevys and you did a great job building yours!!
  17. That is looking really cool, Erik!! It reminds me of the Bond movie where the helicopter cuts up the car with some sort of rotary saw hanging below it!
  18. Well...I'm old and I spend 3 to 4 hours Monday through Friday just driving to work and back... All I can say is thank God for the weekends!!
  19. Kevin, You're starting with a really GREAT kit! Good luck getting it all done in a month...it takes me that long to get the cellophane off of the box and figure out if I what color I want to paint it!
  20. Actually the best way I've found to BMF a model is to get someone else who's really good at it to do it for me!! No muss, no fuss and I don't need to spend a lot of money on an extensive mental therapy session when it's done!
  21. Both cars look GREAT!! The detailing on the Porsche is awesome!! Thanks for sharing,
  22. Very nice build, Jay!! The weathering looks GREAT!! Thanks for sharing,
  23. WOW!!! I really like the look of your '61 Chevy!!
  24. Yeah...Mike...that's the stuff!!! The color combination is right on the money!!
  25. Very nice build! I never thought that those wheels looked right on a Vette, but they look really good on the GP!! Thanks for sharing,
