Airbrush cleaning
Penguins87 replied to clayton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i use lacquer thinner, rag and Q-tips. Do you plan on taking them apart to clean? Then lacquer thinner. Soaking them in a solvent could ruin any o-rings internal. -
Humbrol Acrylic spray paint ?
Penguins87 replied to Goodwrench3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
With Createx I use any automotive primer. Or Createx has their own primer. It's called Autoborne Sealer. Good stuff. -
Humbrol Acrylic spray paint ?
Penguins87 replied to Goodwrench3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't used Humbrol but have used Createx which is water based with good results. They must be airbrushed. On youtube there is several videos on how to spray them. I use their Wicked Colors line since it is more suited for plastics. -
Welcome Rich. From Northeast Pa myself.

Hi Kyle, I use .015 sheet styrene you can get at a hobby store. Then go on www.youtube.com. Search Pheeden's Garage. Jonathan from pheeden's has a good video on making them. I would tell you how but it's easier to watch the video. Hope this helps.

I recently bought a House of Kolor's USC01 Show Clear Kit, ( clear, reducer and cat ). Never used 2K clear before but wanted to spray over the decals, I love it. Just did two bodies with it and will continue. I was using PPG High Performance Lacquer Clear before.

They all look great. I really like the #88 with the foil numbers.

I'm not a pro painter but maybe I can help. First, Zero paints I believe are lacquer based so you must use an automotive quick drying primer. Looking at your pictures it looks to me the paint attacked the primer. When I use a different name brand paint I take a plastic spoon, sand, prime and paint it as a test. Secondly, did you wash the parts before priming to rid the plastic of the mold release agent the manufacture uses. I use Dawn dish liquid flor this. Same thing after striping the paint you must wash and rinse throughly. Hope to help

Thanks for all the nice comments. I've been reading on this forum and learning alot. I'm now working on Kyle Larson's Melllo Yello throughback car and Ryan Blaney's Menards #12.

My first to builds after a 15 year pause in building. Both are sprayed with lacquer ( the blue I mixed myself) and clear coated with PPG High Performance clear. Chassis are lowered and splitter added. Powerslide decals on both.

Welcome Tyler. Nice to see some young blood getting interested in the hobby.

I would check at Megahobby.com . Two weeks ago I got a Chevy for $23.50 and free shipping. They ship fast too.

I agree. I appreciate that Scalefinishes is around and don't wish his business wrong and will order again. But this day of hacks and rip offs I get nervous when it takes so long and there is no communication. The shipping was super fast (less than 3 days) from Utah to PA. I apologize if this post came off as a rant. Wasn't meant to be.

Received my order today. Looks like a quality product. I hope Jameston can get a system where it doesn't take 39 days to receive his product. I primed the body with Duplicolor White auto primer. What have you all used on your Menards cars for a primer? Going to do a spoon test before I spray the body.

Yes, I got USPS tracking on my order. It has left Salt Lake City, Utah. Suppose to arrive here in PA on Thursday. Fingers crossed.
-
That stinks. This is my first order. Might be my last. Hopefully nothing serious happened to him or has he been hacked?
-
Two months. Unacceptable!! No response to emails. Plus posting a "pre-shipment label". Why not tell his customers of his delays either on his website or answer emails. Went to my local USPS today. Ask them to track it. They have no record of it leaving the address on the "pre-shipment label".

I was stupid and placed an order with Gravity Colors May 2. After waiting a month for them and getting no product I thought I would try Scale Finishes. After 10 weeks I got my money back from Gravity thanks to Paypal. Now five weeks into Scale Finishes I'm thinking what's with these people. You take people's money on day of the order being placed. Then you take your time getting them the order. What pees me off the most is they won't communicate with you. My order says "shipped on 6/19". No tracking history. Where is it?

Anyone else having a problem getting their order from Scale Finishes? I placed an order June 2nd and received a pre-shipment notice on June 18th. There has been no product or tracking history since. Tried emailing him at scalefinishes@gmail.com and at Jameston.Kroon@gmail.com and got no responses.
