  1. slant6:: I got my airbrushes off the Evil-bay from a place called Airbrush City. For a bid of just a little over $200. 00, I got 4 different airbrushes, a compresser, 8 bottles of Createx paints, an airbrush holder thats holds 2 airbrushes while you work, 2 bottles of airbrush cleaner, all the hoses and fittings to make everything work, and a video about airbrushing. I have been really happy with the performance of all of the brushes, they work great. I don't use there compresser very often as I had one of my own for my old airbrush, And it was easier to convert it to a compresser that would run 2 airbrushes at a time than was theres. I do use theres when I only need to do a little painting and don't want to drag out my big one, and it works perfect. If you are interested, Airbrush City has several kits up on E-bay now. If you want to take a look try these sites. #230219174975 and or 370017838342 and if you don't belong to the Bay you can go to their web-site which is at WWW.AIRBRUSHCITY.COM As you are buying your first airbrush, and have a budget these might be perfect for you. You can get everything you want for your $250.00 dollars, hell you might even have money left over. They don't have the big names on them but in my opinon they work just as good. Jeff
  2. Trucks, trucks and more trucks. Anything from pickups to tractor-trailer trucks. Oh I hope I mentioned trucks. Jeff
  3. Hey Tim, HANG IN THERE BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!! Don't let your simple mistakes discourage you. As a guy I used to watch on tv would say we don't make mistakes, there just happy errors. "Bob Ross" We have all had these kind of screw ups, I know I have had a lot more than my share. As my wife tells me, SLOW DOWN you are trying to get to much done to fast. I know shes right but I just don't listen and thats when the screw up raises its ugly head. Modeling is suppose to be fun fun fun and relaxing, kinda hard to have fun and relax when you just screwed up your fun and relax project. I know all about this. Ok Tim just a suggestion..... Throw your truck in the Simple Green or what ever your going to use to remove the paint. THAN walk away for a couple of days and just let it sit, DON"T DO ANYTHING with the build. After a couple of days your truck will have the paint taken off and ready for you and it to have a fresh start. This is what my wife makes me do now, ever since I got really p.o.ed at a truck and put it airborn hard into the wall. It really ticked off the warden (wife) cause I had paid a little over a $100.00 for that truck on evil-bay. Modeling class 101 DON"T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. It is costly as there wasn't much to salvage. Tim sounds like you have a nice project going, don't let a few blurbs discourge you. Sit back and relax, have a couple of adult beverages, than you won't see those mistakes as plainly as you do now. Jeff P.S. Would like to see some pictures of your build.
  4. Hi Tim: For paint sprayers I use a lot of different things, it all depends on what I am painting and what i want the final out come to look like. I have 4 different airbrushes, all are set up for doing something different. All I use in them is paint made especially for air brushes. I am a lazy modeler I don't take time to mix or thin paint. Especially not when Createx Colors makes so many different kinds of and colors of airbrush paint. I also use a lot of rattle cans. Mostly use Krylon, for the fast trying time. Also use a lot of Dupli- Color Paints, because of there color selections, can get just about any color from any car manufacture. If you use Dupli- Color you have to use a primer, as they are hot paints and can screw up your plastic. Use either Dupli-Color sandable white or sandable gray primer. Gray for dark and white for light colors. I also purchased a spray gun or sometimes called a can gun. they fit over the top of a spray can and work like a trigger, gives you a lot better control of a can as you spray, a lot better control. There available thru the Micro -Mark Company for about $5.00 or the cost of a can of paint. WWW.MICROMARK.COM is there web-site. Great company. The one other thing I try never to do is mix paint brands, not always possible but I try. If you use Krylon-use-Krylon primer ect ect ect. Tim, Hope this helps you with your paint problems Jeff
  5. Hi Harry:: See your from the Chicago area. " You say you love it when the underdog wins" Well what are you going to do if the Cubs finally win this year????? LOL I grew up in the Waukegan area and have been a Cub/Sox fan for seems like a hundred years. The Sox finally did it now its the Cubs turn. Jeff
  6. Hi Tim:: Great lookin Petercar, love your color combination. You mention that your door decals came from MAG decals, does he make decals commerically, and if so how would one go about getting a hold of him. Jeff
  7. Hi Tim You said in your post that you ruined one of your fuel tanks with your moto tool, trying to remove the chrome. I dont remember if those Alaskan Haulers had round or square tanks. But I have a couple of round tanks in 1/25 th scale from a General Astro 95. If you need them send me a message off board with your address and I will get them off to you. There painted silver but if you can use them let me know. Jeff
  8. Hi Tim : To remove the chome on my stuff I use something called DCT Oven cleaner, my wife gets it from where she works. Its made by a company called Diversified Chemical Technolgies. You might have to order it thru a cleaning products wholesaler but it also works very quickly, about a minute and a half. It also leaves a lacguer coating but I take a little fine steel wool to it and it removes it with out much effort. The only drawback to this product is that it is super caustic, you have to put it in a plastic dish, as it will take the paint off of aluminum pans. All those products Bill talked about work great also, but as I am a very impatient person I go for the stronger faster working stuff. Just to add to Bills warning about rubber gloves, it is also good to have some kind of safety glasses as with anything liquid it can splash. Jeff
  9. wiremonkey: Great lookin mixer, love your choice of colors. That interior really looks great too. Lookin forward to seeing this one finished, keep us up to date on your build. Jeff
  10. I don't know why, but I am going to say model also. Althrough it is probley real can't understand why I would start getting them right with this one. Jeff
  11. I have a set of airbrushes (4) that I bought thru Airbrush City on the Evil-bay. Got the 4 brushes and a compresser, brush stand, 8 bottles of paint, and a few other goodies for a pretty decent price. The compresser isn't that good (use my own ) but it will work. The air brushes work great am very happy with them. Jeff
  12. Well after reading some of the everyday jobs you gentlemen do, I must say I have never heard of some of these. Althrough I am sure you are all professionals at what you do. But I guess you could say I am one of the lucky ones as I have been retired for the last 3 1/2 years. Drove tractor-trailer over the road for more than 40 years. Being retired has its advantages, your home alone all day with plenty of time to build. But it has several big disadvantages also. The biggest is living on a fixed income. The other is getting up every morning and finding the honey-do list the wife left (mostly housework)for you to do. Seems like I only do what the voices in my wifes head tell me to do. Very Happily Retired Jeff
  13. Hey DrewC just want to know, as a home improvement tool, wife will be all for it. Does that mean that you get the compresser and she gets the nail gun to make home improvements while you work on models, LOL That might cause problems, if she wants to nail and you want to paint. LOL. Seriously you will be just fine with 20psi, I keep mine set between 25 and 30 psi and it works just fine. just remember your small model air compressers are not entirely accurate when setting you psi. Jeff
  14. I agree !!!!!!! An interview with Mr Burkett is a great idea. That makes 4 of us, now if we could get a few more ( quite a few ) to go along with us, maybe Mr Hutchings would get the idea and follow thru on this. Jeff
  15. That is the most BUTT-UGLY International I have ever seen. Looks like a P.T. Cruiser on steriods. Why in GODS name would any self-respecting truck drive want to drive, or for that matter be seen in something like that. Jeez that thing even makes a Peterbilt look good. Jeff
  16. I would say go with the black. Add gold highlites on the interior, window cranks-door handles-speaker covers-gold knobs on the dash ect ect ect. Also might think about a gold chain steering wheel. Of course these are just suggestions. And I did vote foa a black interior as black goes real good wit gold. Jeff
  17. I went with real, haven't got a one of them right yet, so why would I want to start this week Jeff
  18. All I got to say to Gregg and Ismaelg is all good things do come to an end. So lets see some pictures of the bad storms you guys get on those islands. 19. Hi Ripp Welcome to the forum. Over 50 and half blind doesn't make you all bad. Heck I am celebrateing the 41st anniversary of my 21st birthday this month. Also on Wednesday I go to the eye doctor to get my new coke bottle glasses. But I am another old guy that really enjoys putting models together, as there are a lot of us around. Anyway welcome Ripp, have fun Jeff
  20. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year To All Happy modeling Jeff
  21. Hi All With all my paint bottles I make sure the threads are clean and than I dab a little Vaseline on them with a que tip. Very little Vaseline, it woks like a grease and keeps the paint from harding in the lid or on the bottle threads. I also agree VW Dave abount paint from the lid if you are only going to use a little amount of paint or if there isnt enough in the lid put the top back on shake and start over agai Jeff
  22. low and mean You might try Dan's Model Truck World ( www.dansmodeltruckworld.com ) for your running lights and other goodies. Jeff
