  1. With Harry and Gregg both getting new Mustangs in the last few months, my only question is, is the price of the magazine subscription going to go up ? Jeff
  2. Know what you mean George, about 3 years ago I got tired of walking behind the snow blower, so I went out and bought me a John Deere lawn tractor. Got a snowblower attachment for it, its 44 inches wide with 21 hsp behind it. That mother will throw some snow, heck I can do my driveway and put snow on the roof of the house across the street. Course its paying for it self, I have got 14 driveways here in the neighborhood that I do at 15.00 a wack. We also have very clean sidewalks around here, one pass and the sidewalks are done. Jeff
  3. Hey has anyone heard from Evilone-------this threads gone on long enough, he should be back by now

Jeff
  6. How about when your Xacto knife, with a # 11 blade in it rolls off the table, blade down. You can imagine where it landed, blade first. Kinda ruins the whole night. Not to say, that it hurt like hell. Jeff
  7. Got to go with AAronw on the Mega-Hobby. I always check with them first to see if they have what I want. They have great prices and fast shipping and are super great people to deal with. Jeff
  8. I have used Createx Air Brush Ready Paints for several years now, as far as thinning them, you usually dont have to. As Grandpa McGurk says plain old tap water works great. Createx also makes a thinner specially for there paints. You can find this at WWW.TCPGLOBAL.COM it also works quite good. Jeff
  9. Ah 2012, will be just another year and the world will still be here and as messed up as usuall. A couple of things that could take place by than 1st--The Chicago Cubs might win a World Series 2nd--The Detroit Lions might win a football game Jeff
  10. Congratulations George53, sounds like you have spoiling him already planned out. But what the heck thats what us grandparents are for. Also glad to hear that Joy and the baby are doing fine and everything is ok. Jeff
  11. I am probley not as old as Harry or George53 but I can remember 10 cent cokes and 27 cent a pack for cigaretts. You could put a quarter and a nickle in a cigarette machine and get a pack of smokes with 3 pennies taped to the back of the pack. In those days models cost anywhere from 25 cents to a dollar and the little bottles of Testors enamels cost 10 cents at almost any store you went into. Of course the selections in those days weren't what they are today but we got along with what we had. In the late 50s, When I was 12 and 13, I worked for my uncle on one of his pop trucks to earn spending money. We had a LHS on one of the routes, it was owned by a really nice lady, who would let me trade a case of pop for any model I wanted in those days, which was really nice. ###### life was so much simpler and stress free, and people so much nicer, back in the late 50s and early 60s compared to now. Sometimes I just wish I could turn the clock back and relive those times. Jeff
  12. Maybe that car was designed for the next Mary Kay Cosmetics top seller. It fits right in beings that its pink in color. The flames and big motor will just help get the make-up to the customers faster. Jeff
  13. First off #1Amatuer, welcome to a great model car forum, lot of great guys on here with a lot of great advice. The one you have to watch out for is George53, he is our local forum PR man and he's darn good at it. Now as for painting, I have to agree with Charlzrocks, I use nothing but Createx Air Brush ready paints, because you can use them really anywhere. There is no smell so to speak of. I live in Iowa and have trouble in the winter with painting outside in the cold. I use the Createx Air Brush ready paints and paint in the basement with no paint booth and it doesnt stink up the work area or the house. Another point for them is that they are water based and easy clean up. I take 2 buckets of clean water and just dip the whole brush in the first bucket till most of the paint is out of it and than move it to the second bucket to finish the cleaning. Than I put some Createx air brush cleaner thru it and I am set for the next color. I have done it this way for several years now and never had a problem, and the Createx is compatable with any clear coat you want to use. I use the Createx clears for the same reasons mentioned above. Also I am a firm beliver in using the same brand of paints for the whole process. As Treehugger Dave says everyone has there own way of doing it and you just have to find what works best for you. You have to experiment with the different ways and find which one you like, than just practice practice practice till you get it right. Jeff
  14. Geez Harry, You mean they had hobby shops when you were a kid. I know that there was the Chicago White Sox, well maybe the Black Sox when you were a kid, but come on hobby shops Jeff
  15. Hi Eelco----got to agree with Geoge53 here, if you live in a cold climent be sure to insulate, and not just your hobby room but the whole basement, and with kids around your going to need a door with a lock, and some kind of ventalation. When we bought our house and remodeled the basement we did it so that the whole family would be able to use it. I dont know how big your basement is but we divided ours up so that we had a laundry room, a storage room and a good size hobby room and family room. For us it worked out really good, we use the basement more than the upstairs. One thing you might want to consider when your in the planning stage, is a 1/2 bath in the basement. I finally had to put one in a couple of years ago. These old legs got tired of running upstairs and across the house to go potty. Once you get your hobby room (man-cave) built in the basement you'll wonder why you didnt do it sooner. Nothing better than going down there doing your building, when your done you turn off the light, lock the door and when you come back everything will be right as you left it. Jeff
  16. Throught we were discussing real or model cars here Not Harry's personal hygene habits Jeff Oh yea by the way I vote with George 53----------------Real
  17. I dont use either Testors or Tamiya enamels and or lacquers, so that must make me different than the rest of you. When I bought my airbrushes, they came with a set of 6 bottles of paint. The paint was in 2 ounze bottles and was made by a company called Createx Airbrush Paints. Throught I would try them and after using them, I got rid of all my enamels and lacquers. I like the Createx paints as they are kind of a lazy mans paints. They need no thinning, you can buy caps that fit there bottles and fit right into the airbrush and you can paint. There is no paint smell to them, so you can use them right in the house or basement. They can also be brushed on for small parts and detail work. There water based so a little soap and water is all that is needed for clean up. They come in a mulitude of colors and 4 different types, opaque----pearlescent----transparent----and---flourescent. There also compatable with almost any clear coat and almost any type primer. My primer of choice, and some of you will laugh and others will debate it, but I like the Rust-Oleum Clean Metal Primer #51502----its always done a good job for me and can be bought almost anywhere paint is sold. If I do a lot of body work, than I prefer the Dupli-Color Gray Sandable Primer, Both get decanted and sprayed thru an airbrush. As with some here, I first coat all my builds with future before doing any type of painting. Jeff
  18. Congrats on the new edition to the family. Giving up your room and having to move to the basement, is only a minor give up compared to the major giveups that a new baby is going to bring. A new baby is a wonderfull addition to a family, but it changes your life as you know it. And it is a great change. I know, as I have 6 kids and 4 grandkids, and it makes for a great life. Jeff
  19. Seems this thread should have been in the Rants and Raves colum rather than in the General section Jeff
  20. A great looking Ford truck and tanker trailer from a good modeler and a dang good friend. Keep up the great work Win and if you need anything for your next project let me know and we will see what we can come up with. Jeff
  21. I dont know about you Harry, or the rest of the guys on this forum, but George53 as a stripper. THATS A SITE I JUST DON"T THINK I WANT TO SEE Jeff
  22. George your probley right, It looks real to me also. Don't know why I am following your lead, cause you aint been doing so well lately, but these things happen in life. Just one piece of advise George, don't quit your day job, cause you can't sing for poop. You weren't even on key for that song. Sounded like an old tom cat out sittin on a fence. Harry you gona let ole George get away with callen you crazy ?????????????? Jeff
  23. Got to agree with George again, its real. You know Harry, George is right, must be nice to have the luxury to sleep in in the mornings. Now your going to say that I am just jealous. Well your right. Jeff
  24. Hi Kyle: First off welcome to the MCM forum, as George53 would say, the best on the internet. If your looking for some small brushes for detailing on your dashboards, go to the Micro Mark site (WWW.MICROMARK.COM) look up Microbrushes (part #s 83168 or 83170 or 83172) these are great for doing dash boards. In fact there are really good for a lot of other things also, putting glue on small parts, glueing in windshields ect ect ect. I wouldn't be without them on the work bench. Jeff
