I recognise the back half... still working on the front.

Strange; the Holthaus family did very well with relatively little advertising. Hope their retirement goes OK even if they don't sell.
He's talking about a broker advertising the business as a whole, not someone looking to take over the product line..

The problem with car movies is that movie and TV people seem to like wrecking cars. Maybe not such a big deal when the cars were new (cf. Bullitt), but how many Mercs were used up for Cobra, or Dodges in Death Proof?

Let me preface by stating how ecstatic I am about the reissue of the Sweptside ! Now , on to what that MPC D-200 / LRE / et al. inhabits which has long bothered me :
- Generic B/ RB engine
- Manual trans coupled with the aforementioned ( maybe I'm wrong ; after 1972 no more 440 / manuals ; after 1974 no more 400 / manuals --- at least in passenger cars )
Certainly , the engine and trans from the 1971 Charger ( or the Revell Dart-series ) would be a simple swap ; a Slant Six / manual is a no brainer ; and , 318/360 with either trans would be easy to do as well .
Now , what are the chances that Round2 will tool-up some hubcaps for those plain steelies from the c.1978 annual ?

I had decided it was probably a BSA Ten bodied by Tickford, so I'll give myself half credit. For the life of me I could not find any automotive association with 6 July 2013.
That was when Ford closed its Southampton plant, where Transit vans were made. It was the last Ford plant in the UK.

I have neither the funds nor the space for such a thing, but I'm interested to see it come together. I find a drop of graphite loaded 3-in-1 oil helps with self-tapping screws.

Maybe he was referring to the K-member.
Possibly... seems a lot of people assume that all the sub rails should be black, or get the rear right and still paint the fronts black, as if it's a GM F-body with a removable subframe. Should be the K member and trans mount only, as shown in the photo above.

Black frame rails?

Nice job. Despite my username, I really like the '67 - '68 Firebirds and I almost bought a '67 twenty years ago. Still kick myself over that one, but it just seems like too much needed doing...
This version of the kit is defintely the one to get vs. the Foose version. My only beef with it is that the engine looks much too wide. The '60s AMT and Revell Pontiacs look correct, but this one just seems 'off'.
-
If you want an engine bay to put it in, buy a Revell '64 Thunderbolt for reference and scale that up.
-
The base model is easy enough, but no luck discovering the coachbuilder so far...

In fairness, their recently tooled wheels and tyres have been quite decent. That chopped top is pretty bad though. Let's hope that Sci-Fi stuff makes enough money to allow for some automotive subjects, done properly.
-
Those conversion parts look great. I'd be interested in a set if you get some cast. Are you planning to do the rear leaf springs too?
-
Seems to be common with these. Mine is warped too (stock version, not the MM).
Nice job on the decals. A heads up for your next Mopar: the front sub rails are part of the unibody and should be body colour (or primer with overspray). Although they've moulded it separately in this kit, it isn't in real life; only the K-member and trans mount are separate pieces, and those should be black.

The Firestone 500s are found in the MPC '65 Corvette. They're probably in other MPC kits too, but I've only seen them in that one, and the Airfix rebox.

Fair enough. I know at least the first issue instructions didn't call for the wheel wells to be opened up for the Drag version, and those early ones came with the narrower slicks. Your Olds probably came from the '39/'40 sedan, which has just been reissued. The Olds will fit better than the OHV Ford engines, because as you probably know, those have front sump oil pans.
-
I think the first issue had either the no-name or the skinny Firestone slicks, which would fit inside the stock wheel wells. Any of the later, wider slicks, including the current parts pack M&H ones, will require radiussing the wheel arches.

The JoHan valve covers are better proportioned than the AMT ones, but the spark plug locations are way off. I don't have one handy to check, but I think the block is closer to being correct for a 385 series - the Maverick/Comet has heads and valve covers to build either a 427 SOHC or a Boss 429 off the same block and heads (I know).
The T'rantula valve covers are the best I know of.

That's a 1940 Buick.

..good gravy, is that the fuel pump sitting under the headlight housing?
I think that's an old style Enderle fuel shut off valve. The pump would be driven off the front of the cam, or belt driven if an OEM front cover/water pump was used.

'46-'47 Ford, I think.

Ah, that explains it. The UK site is different, no Model Enthusiast category:
The Batmobile looks interesting, but must be closer to 1:10 scale going by the dimensions they're quoting.

I don't expect any 1/8 Dodges, and I woudn't be able to afford one anyway, but I still don't know what you've found that you're all getting excited about. All I can see in their shop is the BTF DeLorean, the Aston Martin, and a bunch of figures and Sci-Fi stuff. Confused, I am...

Watch out for that metallic brown plastic; in some kits it's extremely brittle. I had one of the Big Ten-Ford issues that I picked up for cheap because the cab was broken into several pieces. I tested the parts trees, they broke easily. I wound up combining that one with another kit to get a complete one. There are other issues of the '56; there's a Street Demons issue which is pretty much the Super Trick Classic molded in a different color. There might be a Grease 2 issue also.
Yes, I have a Buttera T sedan in that metallic brown. The metallic blue of the Hot Rod issue is quite brittle, but the older brown stuff is worse still.
