  1. *Downgrading* to Windows 10 would be a more appropriate thread title.

I hate WIndows 10.   I didn't mind Windows 7, but 10 removes any last vestige of control, at least the home edition.

I use Linux on my main machine and the only reason I keep Windows on the laptop is for one business-use program, so I'm pretty close to dumping Windows for good.  I would strongly recommend switching to Linux if you can.  Mint is good, and easy to use if you're migrating from Windows.

  2. I saved a bunch of plate images from Ebay and elsewhere, so I have a selection of numbers and letters to copy and paste.  I use GIMP to edit the image, resize it to 1/2" wide and print (monochrome) at 600dpi on plain paper.   I'm generally doing '50s and '60s California plates, so I paint the back  of the printed image with yellow enamel and let it soak through.    Then I stick the thing to the model with PVA.

  3. I did a quick overlay of JC's photos.

Then I traced some of the body lines from the 1:1 photo.

So, it doesn't seem like it needs quite as much surgery as I first thought.  The front fenders are too tall, window openings need enlarging and the trailing edge of the front wheel well looks too upright.  The rear quarter doesn't come down far enough behind the rear wheels - should be more like the MPC & Johan bodies.  Front and rear look too short, but some of that could be down to the difference in photographing a model vs. a 1:1 vehicle.

  4. I see the difference, but to me, it looks like the Revell body doesn't come down far enough behind the rear wheel, rather than the lower body being too deep.  I'd bring the rear of the wheel opening down to match the Johan body.

However, the Revell body looks way too fat *above* the body crease, especially in the front fenders.   I'd be thinking about sectioning it between the body crease and the beltline.  The side window opening needs reshaping as well.

  5. Thanks for the comments, they help to keep me motivated...

I got some work done on the interior today.  I made new shifters from copper wire and mounted them further back than the kit locations, because all my references show them around there.  I was planning to mount the kit shift knobs on top, but I seem to have lost those, so it's either make some, or use the spare DM800 ones from the kit.

Thanks for the info.  I have never seen the MPC kit and just stumbled across the Airfix kit so I grabbed it right away.  I also haven't seen anything that said the two were related, but then again I wouldnt be surprised if they were given the questionable demand for two DB6 kits.  The Airfix is definitely 24th scale so MPC would have to intentionally mis-labeled theirs, most likely to appeal to the US market and their focus on 25th scale.  I will post pictures of whats in the box under the Kits section.

Same kit.  Airfix released the MPC '67 Charger and '67 GTO over here, listing them as 1/24 scale.

If I can do daily updates, that means I am making progress! I got the drag link all put together and installed. I still need to paint the "hardware", but, this is otherwise done. I had a couple of spokes break away from the outer rim, on this side. I figured the easiest way to fix that was to put on a "rollout" plate. Next up is mopping up behind myself, and beginning the induction setup. I really feel like it's the Enderle injectors that will totally "make" this dragster. It's getting closer...

Been a while since I checked this thread.  Looking great!

That's the car known as "Truly Rare" isn't it? Gene Howard?  Pretty sure it's a Buick. No idea on year so I'm gonna guess '53 and then go check Kustomrama to see if I got it right :P

    I think it is.  I was thinking '50 - '51 Buick.

Rough mock up with the body.   The body will sit higher when it's mounted properly.  I cut new greedy boards from 1/16" basswood, which will be stained and weathered.

Pintle plate - still have to make the hitch itself, and yes, I should have done that before I started throwing paint around...  Not sure whether to add some tail lights, or stick with the ones on the body.
