That looks 1000 times better than the kit part. I'll be a customer when it's ready. I'd love to see a correct '72 grille as well, if anyone feels like doing one.
-
Not really into the modern wheels, but that's a nice model. Pity the moulds were modified, leaving us with the ugly 1970 iteration. I'd much rather have a reissue of the '67.

Here are the photos from the HRM article.

Thank you. I'm aiming for an east coast look, but I'm still tweaking things as I go. I think Jamie's wheels & tyres are miles better than the kit parts, just wish he did 24" ones.
-
End of month update. I painted the wheels and I've modified the chassis to work with them. I discovered the body will have to mount a bit farther back to clear the exhaust, but I can make it work.
-
Oh yeah, it wasn't meant to be a dig at Jamie. He was easy to work with and the parts are great. It was more the add-on costs resulting from the poor exchange rate, shipping and then being clobbered with import tax and a handling charge on top. Robbers!

I bought some 22" Mack wheels and tyres from Moluminum. They came out almost twice the cost of the kit after shipping and taxes, but hey...
I painted the interior and inside the cab green. It's maybe closer to a B model interior green, but it'll get toned down with some weathering powder. Cab exterior, body and wheel spokes will be red.

Still creeping along. I've reassembled the dump body, built the engine and started on the interior.

Oops, missed that this was 1/16th scale
Would still be closer than that... why put work into copying the construction details when the body is so obviously wrong?
-
Much easier than the last two.

I have several of the late '70s Matchbox/AMT CF doubles and there's definitely no chrome in those.
-
Thanks for the comments. Yes, the frame will be bobbed, just deciding what to do with the rear crossmember. I might make up a deep rear crossmember with a trailer hitch, as I've seen on some 1:1s.
-
It looked fine in your mock up the other week and all the wheels appear to be touching the "ground"? The hood's obviously off to the bumper, so something's out of whack. Have a break and come back to it with fresh eyes.
-
Nice job. Where did you get the resin wheels?
-
I didn't have a clue on that one.
-
Thanks. A bit more done, lengthened the frame about 5/8" (still needs clean up, don't judge). I'll probably bob the rear of the frame so it doesn't overhang so much,
Mock up.

Big block? Back then an Oldsmobile V8 was one size block in variety of displacements. No big blocks. No small blocks. Just an Oldsmobile V8. A 442 400 basically looks the same as a Toronado 425. Color will be different. The 442 V8's in '66 were painted a bronze color. The 425 V8s, red.
Sort of... the 400-425-455 did have a bigger block with a taller deck height and bigger mains than the 330-350, although the basic architecture was the same.

Sounds kinda like the AMT tnt kits. They are small.
They are the AMT kits. No chrome in the Heller issues, IIRC.

Some progress - I've started to reassemble the body, and made a new ram from K&S tubing.
-
It's out over here now as well. The box art is really hard to look at... my brain can't process those perspective conflicts.
-
Found it. Interesting car, way ahead of its time.

I got it, but I didn't receive a reply to my PM?

Yep, I used the kit's body (moved the rear wheel wells back to stock) with the kits headlights/grill (added the grill insert from a Fireball 500 Barracuda). The interior tin and floorboard from an old MPC FC, chassis, engine, wheels and tires came from the Polar Lights Mustang FC. Slixx decals.
That looks great. I agree about modfiying the AWB body; the '90s Comet and Fairlane bodies aren't much cop.

Motorcraft didn't exist at that time, so I would go with Autolite, black with red caps. No idea on the shocks, sorry. A quick search of restored cars showed red and black.

Not a lot done this month due to work and family stuff, but I'll post some update photos later. I did some more on the interior, got a base coat on the engine, and mounted a hydraulic oil tank to the frame.
