  1. Yeah, that RR kit is pretty crappy. I have another NIB kit. Not sure what I'm going to do with it. Original intent was to build it as a tow vehicle for the Hot Rod Rolls, but not sure that makes any sense. Could make it a 4x4!
  2. I'm going to put this here since it includes two dragster builds. It also includes a ramp truck and trailer. Complete race team! This setup was built over 35 years ago! The Chevy hauler features mild customizing of the cab, beefed up suspension with rear duals, and a scratchbuilt ramp deck and box. The trailer was also scratchbuilt using sheet styrene and parts box componants. The dragster is a short wheelbase front engine rail with blown hemi. The VW "funny" uses an unknown funny car chassis shortened to fit the stubby bug body which is hinged at the front. Also running blown hemi. I did not shorten the bug body. It came that way in some kit of unknown origin. In real life I'm sure the VW would be impossible to drive, but that's the beauty of creative scale building...anything is possible!

Might be...memory is not what it used to be! That build is over 50 years old!
  4. Very cool! The Ala Kart has always been my favorite hot rod. I built one of the original kits back in the day, but gave it to my nephews after I graduated High School, so it is long lost/destroyed. What a dumb thing to do! I do have the Danbury Mint diecast version which is really awesome (see photo). I also have a couple of the reissues that I hope to get to someday.

I have some truck, drag race, and a couple diecast builds too, but will post them in the appropriate sections. Hope you enjoyed my brief photo history of model building. I built a lot of models back in the 60's, but foolishly gave them all to my nephews after I graduated high school in '71. The only two originals that survived were the '67 Firebird and my brother's '65 Fury. I mourn the loss of some of those models that my nephews destroyed. A couple that come to mind are: '69 Plymouth GTX and a Mako Shark gasser (my first attempt at scratchbuilding). Wish I still had those!! Due to recent heart surgery and orders not to work on full-scale stuff for awhile (I have a LOT of projects!), I decided to get back into building some scale stuff. I'm also recently retired, so I hope I can find time to keep working on scale stuff between the bigger projects!

And this is a Monogram '64 GTO that I built around 1997 or so.

    Some old builds

This one was built by a friend of ours as a Christmas present to my wife. It is a replica of her 1:1 '64 Tempest coupe that we had at the time. We no longer have the 1:1, but still have the model. He did a convincing job transforming a GTO into the base model Tempest. He even modified a Chevy straight six to mimic the Pontiac 215 6cyl, and added a bench seat. Side note: We currently have a 1:1 '64 Tempest Custom wagon (see avatar) that I am attempting to replicate in 1/25 scale. I will post that project in the "on the bench" section.

This radically customized Vette was done as a curbside model with no interior or drivetrain.

    Some old builds

This '58 Corvette gasser was done in the 80's-90's, again not real sure.

    Some old builds

Not real sure on this road-race '69 Camaro build, but I'm thinking it was done prior to 1989. A ton of body modifications to this one including rolled rear pan, front air dam and fender flares.

    Some old builds

These two '32 Vickys were built around the same time, circa mid '80's I would guess. The left one is mostly box stock while the other one has been chopped, channeled, and bobbed.

    Some old builds

Old Meyers Manx model, mostly stock with sides and back added to the roof.

This '40 Ford build is also probably over 35 years old. The chassis is from a '58 Impala, engine is a blown 409 (I think also from the Impala kit).

Not sure on this Lil John Buterra build either, but it is at least 35 years old. Wasn't sure if I should put it here or under the pickup section. It started life as a sedan.

Not sure when I built this '66 Chevelle, but my skills were getting better.

    Some old builds

This '58 Impala was done mostly stock except for the bar grille and spotlights. All of the trim was painted since I had not yet heard of Bare Metal Foil (or it hadn't been invented yet!). This one was probably built around 1974-76.

Next is a '67 Firebird that I built around '67-68. Not very good skills then, but it did have a few details that I was experimenting with. The vinyl top was created using self-adhesive woodgrain shelf paper painted flat black. The rear mud guards are actual aluminum to mimic the chrome guards that were popular at the time. This model also has working rear suspension using coil springs from an ink pen.
  19. Thought I would share some old builds. These were all built approximately 35+ years ago. A couple I remember the approximate year, but most I do not. First up is a Johan '65 Plymouth Fury that my brother built in 1965. That is the original exterior paint (54 years old!). He had built it box stock. About 35 years ago, I carefully disassembled the model, repainted the interior and added the custom wheels. The side trim had never been painted but lately I've been thinking of foiling it.
  20. I built this one some time ago. Turned out pretty nice I think.
  21. Been away from building for about 20 years. Recently dug out an older build that I started way back then and finished it up. A simple build without a lot of detail. Used an Entex 1959 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud body set on a stretched Pro Stock chassis with BBC. Color is grey primer.
  22. New to the forum. Been building models since around 1965, but have not done much in the last 20 years. Due to recent heart surgery and strict orders not to wrench on any full scale stuff for a while, I dug out some old kits and got back to it. Looking forward to sharing some of my old builds and a couple recent ones.
