Very nice! I used the same kit to build street version w/o the racer parts.

Calling the interior done.

Decided I didn't really like the gold wheels, so a fresh coat of white was in order. Also cleaned off the poorly done lettering on the tires and repainted. Also made a set of floor mats using blue painters tape painted with the body color. I think they turned out OK. The interior is a bit fancy for a 4x4, but why not...

Unfortunately, I don't remember where I got the chassis. It's been in a box for years.

A little update... I used Duplicolor primer, base and clear on the Camino body. Not entirely happy with it. I expected a smoother finish. I have used the same paint on metal with better results. On the camper I used Duplicolor primer followed by Duratrax RC car body paint which went on nice. I then used the Duplicolor clear over it. Looks OK. Not real glossy, but most campers are not anyway. The truck bed topper/cap/camper shell (description depending on where you live), I used Rustoleum 2X with no primer. It turned out nicer than the Duplicolor, but is taking longer to fully cure. For the interior I again used the Duratrax white with Duplicolor Garnet Red on the dash and seat. No clear coat.

Thanks, but the roof was already glued on when I got it. I'm just going to leave it as-is.

Making a little more progress. Chassis done except for trailer hitch. Converting interior to bench seat.

Got color on the body. Duplicolor medium garnet red. Third coat was a little too heavy, so some wet sanding is in order before clear.

Got primer on and engine/trans in. 283, 4-barrel, 4-speed. Color later today hopefully!

I've been wanting to rebuild this one for a while. Decided now was the time. Older AMT body on an unknown glue bomb 4x4 truck chassis. The camper was already built, so trying to bring it back as well.

Here is something a bit different.... My wife has been saying she wants a black over red Jeep Wrangler. However our current finances won't allow that, so for Christmas I got her a 1/18 diecast Wrangler as a gag gift. Now she can tell our friends I bought her a Jeep! ? Anyway...we also like vintage campers (we have a 1:1 1972 Midas Smokey waiting restoration), so I thought I would build her a camper to go with her Jeep! The design is just an approximate copy of the popular "canned ham" campers. I used materials that I don't normally work with. The frame, sides, rear bumper, LP tanks and are all wood. The top panel is aluminum (roof flashing). Tail lights came from the parts box (I think they were electronic panel light lenses of some sort, but scale was perfect). The wheel/tire came from Hobby Lobby as did the marker lights which are faceted "blingy" things (technically "acrylic gemstones") that I painted with translucent orange and red. The LP tanks were also sourced at HL (3/4"x1" spools). I spun them in the drill press to reshape and then added the upper rings from parts box. Paint is Duplicolor Perfect Match automotive touch up paint. Chrome trim was done with Molotow pens. It was done as a curbside model, so no interior. Overall, I think it turned out pretty good! Parts cut from 3/8" poplar (wheels from HL): Frame started: Wood sealed with polyurathane, then primed and painted: Partly assembled: In paint booth for white color: And the end result!

Moved over from On the Workbench section... Picked up this '60 Nomad at antique store yesterday. I thought it was a promo, but turned out to be an old AMT Jr. Trophy Series model. Still very cool! It was in excellant condition but was missing front grill and bumper, fender mirror and rooftop antenna. After a good wash to remove dirt/dust and polishing the glass and body with Novus 3-step plastic polish, I think it turned out really nice. I modified a grill from the Revell California Wheels Impala to fit (pretty easy) and fitted the front bumper from the same kit. Since the original wheels/tires were a little dull, I also fitted the wheels and WW tires from the Revell kit. Had to source different backing plates from the parts box to make them work. I had thought about doing a full-blown restomod using chassis, etc. from the Revell kit and going all out with foil trim, etc. but I really don't have time right now. I might still do the foiling at a later date. For now, it will look good in my collection as is! I think it turned out pretty nice for a model that's 50+ years old! A little soap and water and a toothbrush had her cleaned up real good. Moving to Under Glass as she is done as far as I think I will go for the moment at least.

Thanks for the feedback guys! My first car was a '60 Biscayne 2-door post, 6cyl, 3-on-tree. I traded it for a '60 Impala hardtop with 283 4bbl, 3-on-floor. So I have a soft spot for '60 Chevys. I have the Franklin Mint '60 Impala diecast and a couple Revell kits not yet built. Since I like '60 Chevys AND longroofs, I am leaning toward fixing this one up a bit and adding to my collection. It would look good with one of Greenlight's 1/24 campers behind it!

That's what I've been finding too. I'll probably just leave the three lights though. It was easy to add extra lights on these cars. I owned a 60 Impala hardtop while in high school. Just for grins, I added a fourth light on each side and converted the backup lights to tail lights also, so I had eight tail lights across the back. Not something I would do today, but I thought it was cool back then!

I think you may be right. It is in really nice shape. I'm scrubbing the dirt off of it now. It looks like the Revell parts will fit with minimal fitting.

Haven't posted here for a while. Fully recovered from the heart attack/bypass surgery, so back to busy with full-scale projects. Not much time for models at the moment. However....I just scored this old 1960 Chevy Nomad promo model at an antique store. It is missing the grill and front bumper but it looks like those parts from the Revell 60 Impala will work with a little bit of fitting. The promo is in excellant condition otherwise. I am not sure of it's value so I am debating a few directions to go with it. 1. Clean up and install the Impala grill/bumper and leave it at that. 2. Clean up then foil the trim, add white stripe on the side, swap out the wheels with the stock Impala kit wheels and wide ww. 3. Use more parts from the Impala kit and do a full "restomod" version. There are no markings on the chassis to indicate who made this promo, but I suspect AMT. Comments?
