1960 Pontiac Laurentian & Scratch Built Travel Trailer
Kruzn replied to DR JAY's topic in Model Cars
Excellent job on both! This is our 1:1 64 Tempest wagon and recently acquired 71 Smokey camper. I'm already working on 1/25 replica of the wagon and hope to eventually build a replica of our camper to go with it. Of course, I also need to restore the 1:1 camper too! -
Great idea! I even have a couple of those signs laying around!

1960 Pontiac Laurentian & Scratch Built Travel Trailer

Beautiful! Love the camper! -
Thanks. Kit-bash is the term I've always used. I have robbed parts from 7 different kits to build this. I probably would not have gone quite that far if I wasn't trying to replicate the 1:1 as closely as possible!

Thanks guys... One more thing I should try to duplicate is the left side bolster/storage compartment that is in our 1:1. I built that using 1/8" bendable plywood over a wood frame. Not sure how to do it in scale. The styrene sheet I have it too thick I think. Any ideas?

Progress has been slow due to other committments, but I finally got the rear console and rear speaker box built and some color on the seats.

This is a build I started a long time ago and haven't yet finished. Actually I built it up box stock and then decided to convert it to tandem drive, so the frame was stretched and a second driven axle installed. When finished it will be mated with a custom drop-deck trailer to haul my matching A100 monster truck.

True story... Back around the early-to-mid '80's when the '63 split window Vettes were starting to jump in value, I was working at a Dodge dealer. We did a lot of business with a local auto glass place. The owner (and sole employee) was an avid T-bird fan and had quite the collection of '57 T-birds. However, he was also very knowledgeable on just about anything automotive and he did a lot of window glass work on Corvettes. One day I was dropping a dealer car off for some glass work and he had a very nice "64" Corvette coupe in the shop with the back window out. Seems the customer had brought it in with serious water leak issues around the rear one-piece glass. The guy had recently bought the car at a very reasonable price, even for a "64". When Ted pulled the backglass he discovered that it was an original split window that had been converted (crudely, hence the leaks) to one-piece glass. Upon further VIN research, it turns out the car was indeed an original numbers-matching '63 split window that was purchased in 1964 hence the '64 title. He called the owner and explained the situation and asked if he wanted the leaks fixed and one piece glass reinstalled OR the correct center piece, split glass and trim ordered to return the car to original factory spec. Wisely the owner opted to return it to original 63 spec, because it was the right thing to do and because it was now worth at least twice what he had paid for the car!

Diecast trading/selling sites?
Kruzn replied to Kruzn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks guys! -
Anybody have recommendation for a good site to trade/sell/buy diecast models? I have been selling model kits on Model Car Marketplace on FB, but that is for plastics only. TIA!

My brother built this Johan model back in 1965. Glad I kept it all these years! I like the Fury with and without skirts. I really should foil the trim someday, but this is the way he built it except I changed the wheels somewhere along the way.... He was a volunteer fireman at the time, so it is supposed to be a Fire Chief's car. Notice the 2-way radio under the dash. There was an antenna on the rear deck, but it is long gone. I've always loved the 65-66 Furys, beautiful design. Good luck with yours, I'm sure it will be nice whichever way you go!

El Camino 4x4 Camper
Kruzn replied to Kruzn's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I do have a coupe of the 65 wagons, but have other plans for them. The El Camino only had buckets seats in the kit, so I robbed a 66 Chevelle wagon of it's front bench to use in the Elky. -

Well....after a detour to finish up the rescued '57 Chevy chopped top custom, I'm making a little progress on the Tempest. The PT Cruiser seats have been modified and the front console roughed out. Still need to build the rear seat console and the rear speaker box.

This is an old glue bomb rescue that I documented on the On The Workbench page and it is finally finished. The goal was a semi-curbside model, so the interior was done very simply and no engine was installed. Top was chopped and rear window laid back. Color is Testors Arctic Blue metallic. Whitewalls were done with Elmers Painters pen. Not my best paint job. I used Rustoleum Painters Touch 2X primer and I don't think the Testors color coat liked it much.

El Camino 4x4 Camper

I've never done weathering (or paint stripping) so maybe this is good time to learn! The body is sitting on a 4x4 truck chassis of unknown origin. -
