This is my latest project, an Outlaw Pro Street Camaro. Its simply a pro street taken to its limits. This is what I have done so far: -The doors and front clip were removed. -I scratchbuilt the frame/cage for it using 1/16", 3/64", and 1/32" brass rod/tubing. Its the same design used in pro modifed, just a shorter wheelbase. -I created the firewall using sheet brass. All together there are 10 individual pieces that make it up. -I scratchbuilt a wing for the body. The primer will be much smoother before paint! -This is where the project is at now. The engine you see there is only a mock up piece for now. I am considering using the new Ross Gibson Chevy Hemi as my powerplant. Next up will be the tub work. I'll keep you folks posted.

Here's a few more with the tank on... not much left on it.

Ben the skull is from the kit, I just added the back to it. Here's the latest. I got the tank chromed.... I used Dupli-Color Chrome on it. I also redid the the oil tank. The orignal piece was in halves and left you with an ugly crack. So I used some brass tube, drilled holes to mount it and for the oil lines. The ends of it were from the kit. Then it was all chromed with Dupli-Color again. ...the engine, trans, oil tank on the frame. I also attatched the sissy bar and rear fender.

I originally was going to do a full out modern custom but I can't get the old school them out of my head. I'll be detailing it much more than my other chopper, this one will have brake, oil lines, etc... The fender was bobbed and then round off at the edges.... paint is Stop Light Red Metallic. The frame is the same color and is drying as I type. The engine is the kit engine with some black wash. I'll be adding plug wires later. Here's the skull air cleaner that I added too... I decided to add a back to the head. I'll paint it white with some cracks in it... still needs some clean up though. It won't be the handle bar riser anymore. And here is the custom sissy bar I scratched from aluminum. I polished it to look like chrome.. tough to tell in these pics though. The tank will be the short tank that came with the kit. I'll be painting it all chrome. The only thing that remains undecided is the front... I really want a springer but cannot find one.... we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the info Mike! I work with a lot of metal on my models, and its getting to the point where some things I just can't do without a lathe. I researched the brand you suggested "Sherline" and found a nice one for around $575. Looks like I'm gonna have to get it!

Now that is trick! I may have to try that 8)

I've been buying machined aluminum parts for a while now, but I'm finally at the point where I just can't afford them all time. So i've been looking into getting mini lathe, but I have no idea where to begin. I don't want to spend anymore than $200. I've used large lathes before but when it comes to something for models I don't know where to look. I'll be machining all sorts of parts from pulleys to fire bottles. Any help would be great.
