Is there a source for a 54 GMC panel? I might have a commission shelf-build coming up. Thanks!

Geeez… the week has been long. Today the wife is out for the day so me & the dog will have the house to ourselves. I plan on hitting the bench. I've been soooo bad with completing this build. And the Pink one…. More to come.

I'll see your oddball and raise you one….. -
As I've mentioned, I started working this week at a Restoration shop that specializes in Street Rods & Muscle cars. Some have asked to post some of the toys in the shop. Here's a cool one. This is a custom built chassis for a `65 Corvette. Coil-overs, rack-n-pinion, LS1 fuel injected small block, killer brakes, insanity…. The body is being smoothed out in another department. I'll post more when there's more to see. Not sure on the price tag, but it was delivered in the condition you see. I heard it was knocking on $50K….. My first project is much less interesting. Dash, engine compartment, and forward light harness in a `79 Corvette. Another shop "repaired" a problem….. gave us a new customer. So far, I'm in love. I didn't want to come home tonight. Imagine a shop full of gear heads swapping stories after hours. I see some late nights coming….

I thought I had Plymouth emblems on my hub caps. They ended up being Chevy emblems. Ouch…. I know the feeling. I should USE my optivisor!

Bottled Clear Coats

Thanks everyone for your input. I bought the Tamiya thinner today just because I only have so much of the air brush ready paint and I don't want to kill it. As it is I'm taking a huge leap of faith and air brushing the body. I've only done about a half dozen so far, although every one was nicer that rattle cans, which are soooooo convenient! We should be in paint by the weekend…. <fingers crossed> -
Every make a starter relay in 1/25th?

Thanks Stan! I think we all feed off of each other. When everyone is rolling, it gets interesting! I finally assembled the wheels, tires, and mounted the dog dishes. The hub caps are from Arrowhead Machine. The best I could find and they really don't look too bad. The front tires are from the Revell Hemi Dart kit and the rears are those beautiful M-T drag radials made by Chief Joseph at Fireball Models.

Today we start by finishing up the fuel system and install the sub-frame connectors. I'll just give 4 views and let the pictures speak. Next up is assembling the engine compartment and installing the engine. While I'm preparing the body for paint I can assembly the exhaust and some suspension. Today we're having Amy's Mom over for dinner, then there's drag racing from Gainesville tonight. Might be a bad night for the bench….. but we're getting there!

I'm planning on using the Acrylic clear over the Scale Finishes paint on my Barracuda build. Thanks for everyone's input. And Bill, that Magnum wagon is sweet ! -

Bottled Clear Coats

Dave: I know buying it by the ounce is always more expensive, It's just that tomorrow I start working for an automotive restoration shop. I'm sure I'll get to know the paint dept. eventually, so I *might* have a source of SMALL quantities of 'the good stuff" in the future. Joseph: The Tamiya clear states it's Acrylic on the label. I believe the number is TS-20 or 22….. I can confirm later when I go upstairs. I was out doing house & dog food shopping and was near the LHS. Otherwise, it IS a bit of a drive through several congested towns on a 2 lane road thats shared w/ commercial vehicles. It's about 7 miles of pure annoyance. Believe me, I try and plan my LHS visits wisely (like today….). Thanks for the replies from everyone. I'm going to experiment with the Scale Finish product w/ the Acrylic clear coat. I need a smooth, realistic finish, not candy-coating like a custom. -
Aside from being an avid reader (my Wife can finish a book in 3 days….) she's also a heck of a crochet'er and an incredible baker and a very good cook. She's made me beautiful sweaters and delicious Cookies/Meals. For example: Today is not only her home-made Spaghetti sauce, but home-made Pasta. Pure heaven!

Thanks everyone for replying. OK, as per Scale Finishes site Acrylic clear will work over their paint. My next question was going to be what to thin it with. After Googling for answers (I got multiple answers…..) I'm headed out to my LHS to buy Tamiya thinner for the clear to play it safe. I'm NOT painting a THIRD body!! -
I love the color! Nice build with some extra loving. I like the hinged trunk w/ the fuel cell. Adding under hood detailing really makes everything stand out. The wash in the grill… the foil. Nice job!

I'm approaching paint on my Barracuda build. I have a full bottle of Scale Finishes L1 Turquoise to replicate my color. Can I shoot Tamiya Acrylic Clear over it? I don't want to use a rattle can over the A/B finish, yet I don't have the ability to obtain enough automotive clear to make it cost effective. If not the Tamiya (which I already have) is there anything bottled that gives decent results? I'm not looking for that "ten feet deep" finish, but rather Fisher-Price simplicity. Thanks!

I think the assembler might have to be taken into account too. If your assembling this as an educational tool, that means you need education in using tools and following instructions also. I wouldn't take a negative review as the final word. -
YEAH, WHY THE LIMIT?!?!

Gee Tom, I hope THAT doesn't happen! Just how clueless was this person????

What Infiniti dealer? I haven't pulled a paycheck yet from this place and I'm happier already…..
