Done….. 2:00AM and she's DONE. See you all at NNL East in a few hours…... G`nite…...

Not much left as I posted. I'll be going up in a few minutes and trim it out. I can't wait.

My wife KNOWS I'm nuts. She walked past the hobby room, waved bye-bye, and went to bed an hour ago. She knows she's going to be up early as I'm running on adrenaline now. I had an exhaust issue that not only got resolved, but the solution looked better than what I was originally thinking! I think it's going to neat when it's done. I'm taking another break but the last round is coming. Emblems, handles, wipers, and badging. Throw the battery in, and hook up the cables. Fortunately NNL East is about 45 minutes from me. Just gotta escape the island and hit the mainland. I'll pop in when she's done.

No sleep tonight…. Just made some coffee. Come hell or high water, I'm there tomorrow with this thing. While it seems like I'm wasting time right now, I'm actually taking a much needed break as my neck is getting sore. Besides, I can get disgusted watching the Mets lose and go back upstairs. Here's a few quick shots I figure if I get about 4 hours sleep I should be able to function tomorrow….. See ya latr….

I use whatever I find. For this build I'm using the clear plastic cover from Holiday cards. I polish the sheet then cut it out.

Wait until you see the marker lights.... wow. While it's not perfect, it's coming along nicely. All I have left to do is: Install door handles, wipers, mirrors Make an exhaust system Assemble the interior into the shell Install the engine and; Wire battery Plumb brakes to master Install the MSD box Install radiator & hoses Install suspension Stuff it together If I don't get any sleep tonight Amy will drive my exhausted carcass to the show tomorrow morning. Hopefully with my little Mistress.

I was up at 5:30 am epoxing in the windows before work. I finished foiling at 11:00 last night. I just have to assemble it....

Fast update: Paint is dry, had an unexpected chunk taken out of my night…..screwing me up, but I made my window templates. Here's a tip or two now as once I start stuffing this together I won't have the time to photograph the procedure. I use an old spare body (hey, I have a "few" stashed away….) and I make paper templates by tracing the openings, then free-handing it a little bit bigger. Now, here's the tip: Leave a tang on the template so when you cut the glass (thin, polished clear plastic) you have a surface to glue. It doesn't have to be this long as I exaggerated the tang. Now crease it so there's a slight bend in the sheet. Here Im using the paper template. The plastic will do the same. Now when you epoxy the glass in, you can do it no where near the visible area. And the tension of the bend will keep it taught against the frame if you align it right. From the outside you can see how it hugs the body, nice and tight. You can usually do it to the front & back glass too.

Where do you build?
FASTBACK340 replied to Arbatron's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I' m fortunate to have a useless, tiny 3rd "bedroom" that's 10' X 10' and holds me, my bench, spray booth, and my tool chest nicely along with a nice comfy swivel office chair. Buts that's it..... the Burrito is stuffed at that point. My poor dog can't even squeeze in to visit. But a good, small stereo makes for an awesome sound in that mouse hole. The basement stores the un-builts. -
Very cool build! Small block, 4spd. 6 Bbl A body's ALWAYS get my attention ..... As for your dash dilemma, drill a pair of small holes through the sides of the interior tub on either side where the dash slips in. Line up the dash and stick a sharp pencil in the holes. Remove the dash and drill matching holes. Ideally your drilling holes the size of what ever your going to pin it with, be it plastic or metal. Slip in your pins and your done. :-)

I love Horseradish w/ Prime Rib. I had Horseradish Mustard with our baked Ham yesterday….. The only thing is it looks blue in photographs. When you see it Saturday you'll see the true shade….

Impulse buying ?
FASTBACK340 replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Impulse buying is part of the hobby. The first time I went to the Toledo NNL / Toy Show I had spent $400 in a parking lot before dawn using a flashlight. -
LOL!!! This one is too nice for the F-up Fairies to mess with. If I don't make it, I'll display it un-finished. I'm NOT hacking it together!

Thanks Rich….. It's all just assembly now with some minor paint details. I'm going to cut the glass now while I watch the Mets. Tomorrow & Wednesday I'll install the engine and plumb the exhaust, hopefully Thursday bare metal, install glass, trim, grills, & lenses. Friday I put it together. Saturday I share with my peers. I can't believe how much it looks like the real one. Especially when the big one came home from being painted. The day I flat-bedded it home from the paint shop. The little one tonight

I know I'm pushing it…. I'm hoping the lacquer is hard enough to handle with gloves. I can TASTE this one……that's how bad I want to finish it.
-
Well, if you knew me, you'd already know I cleared it…….. and it looks pretty good in my opinion. Not syrup, not frosted, not "wet"…. just a nice scale finish. I'll probably do the final assembly Thursday into Friday. I'm giving it time to cure. I did a test shot this morning before work on that 1/43rd. Cuda I did test shots on. I came home and that little lump looked GOOD! So I figured, hey….why not. I blew on 2 light coats of Testors Gloss lacquer. Check it out…. I can't wait to trim it and install the glass. I can't wait……

New York model stores?
FASTBACK340 replied to Volvoman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you get off of the Meadowbrook Pkwy. At Jericho Tpke. Headed west it's about 2miles out, with Willis Ave. being 2 blocks past the railroad overpass. Make a right and it's one block north on your right. Huge (metered) parking lot out back. -
You nailed it: with the exception of some vehicles that have snap-in trim, there is at least ONE overlap seem. The windshield & back light in my Fastback is 4 pieces each. We'll tackle that next.. I'm torn between one coat of clear, or just hitting it Future.... Choices-Choices.

Windshield trim isn't one piece on most cars..... I'll explain when we foil this week.

Scale Finishes Paints & Airbrushing
FASTBACK340 replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now that I think about it, I may have ordered it on-line. Between the Barracuda, models, Basses, and other items I forget where the heck I get things from….. But yeah, the A/B was a rush as to how easy it was. And great results.
