1. Same debate is raging on MoParts.... I always thought Pro Street was pretty much as debatable as Pro Touring. But at least Pro Touring attempts to make the ride drive able. As stated, it all depends on the subject & wheel/rim choices. Either can be wrong.... or right.
2. I had some heart issues years past and since I've lost a great amount of weight & taken much better care of myself as I get regular exercise and eat right. But last night..... I've had an irregular heart beat at times that has never been witnessed or observed by my cardiologist. Last night it happened to the point where I almost passed out. Paramedics arrive as I start to feel better. My blood pressure was 108/40 at that moment. I have no idea how low it actually got..... I spent the night in the hospital's cardiac care unit without so much as a hiccup. Blood pressure fine....heart rate perfect..... <sigh....> The joys of getting old. Now I see my doctor tomorrow and start the medication juggling act. Up this dose age, drop that dose age, start taking this..... Everyone: Don't wait until your hospitalized (like I was in 1996) to turn things around. It took a week of me being in a Pennsylvania hospital thinking about what went wrong and how to reverse it. Since then I've dieted & excercised and still have issues. I'd probably be dead already if I ignored my initial health problems. Hopefully this isn't the start of something else. Look in the mirror and think about it......
3. So would a big block....
4. The same 928 being in the shop doesn't condem the entire model range. I worked for Porsche/Audi for 11yrs. And saw plenty of 928's humming along nicely. Granted, water pumps are $400 and brakes wear quickly, but it does say Porsche on the box..... you know. I've. driven those Calloway 924's. While they are quicker than stock, all I've seen them do is push out the head gaskets quicker. I'll stick to my guns: the 944 was one of the nicer, affordable cars they sold. The 924 was a parts-shelf bomb. Rabbit front struts, Audi transmission, VW type 3 rear brakes & trailing arms, VW truck engine, etc. Now, if you want to talk 930's......
5. 944's were very nicely balanced cars. The limited (and brutally fast...) 944 Turbo S was my favorite. The 928's are nice cars. Don't know why he would make a statement like that. The 924 yes, all day- every day.... but the 928?
6. That's beautiful! I worked for Porsche/Audi when those were new. Fast, smooth, comfortable. That car would cruise at triple digits without breaking a sweat. I have a funny story about a 928. On a road test showing the car to a friend whom stopped by my shop, I come blowing through a radar trap in Port Washington, NY at warp drive. Cop didn't even put it in gear.... Back to the model, beautiful job! )
7. Research how the ore for the batteries are mined in the tundra of Canada with the ring of acid rain around the site. Or how they truck the ore (not in hybrids....) to a port, float it around the world, make batteries, then install them in Japan and sell Prius to people whom want to drive a " green" car. Joke....
8. Just an update: Been busy with side-work. Helping a friend get his car ready for the cruise/show season. And the Barracuda committed suicide Saturday when a corner of the dash frame gouged my ignition switch harness leaving me testing my patch-it-up and get-it-home skills. The models are much easier.....
9. Nice build of the anti-car.....
10. I rescued a $5 swap meet special '59 Buick too years ago. Sweet lines on that sled ! What's the game plan for this one?
11. I'm going to build a frame/floor pan and use the Challenger seats, dash, console, and other bits-n-pieces. Suspension may be pieces of the kit or all fab'ed. Either way, it's going to be stuffed full of 6.1Hemi
12. Interesting group we are indeed! I'm fortunate to be able to enjoy a few hobbies as my wife not only encourages it, but she has a few of her own. This in turn has given me the opportunity to experience new things. Besides model building & collecting, I also collect anything second generation Plymouth Barracuda related, specificly 1968. I also restored & enjoy my '68 Fastback 340-S Barracuda. I also play Bass in a rock band ( Sinclairs in East Babylon Sat night 11:00pm....) have a modest collection of Basses too. My Wife has made me a NY Mets fan as she's a huge fan of Baseball. Went to opening day and froze.... We also enjoy going to concerts. We're good for 8-10 shows a year (saw In This Moment & Stone Sour 2 weeks ago) We also enjoy the occasional Broadway show. We have family from coast to coast so at least once a year we're flying somewhere. My Wife is an avid Skiier and usually goes to Utah every other year to ski with her Dad who taught her when she was 4! He's getting on in years and still skis a bit. My Wife also enjoys Dog Shows & Agility Trials. We did agility with our last girl, but now just spectate. Our boy is a bit of a huge hound. Not agile at all .... Plus we enjoy doing our own household renovations, I enjoy working with wood & building stuff, etc. We definitely keep busy.
13. Sad news indeed.... Ray was a great guy. Condolences to his family from mine.
14. If its the first workbench picture, I'm with you 100%
15. Speaking of humble talents, I'm about to totally build a frame, interior, suspension and who knows what else in my upcoming '62 Dodge build. I watched, maybe I learned.... Thanks again
16. ANYTHING from Troy Terpanier or Steve Strope (Pure Vision....) would be a welcome addition to the perennial batch of customizes (Barris, Winfield, Daniels, Coddington, Foose...) Those annoying idiots on Graveyard Carz do stock resto's. Just another reason for re-named re-issues of stock kits. BTW: Not to steer this thread away from into the guardrail and into the wall, but...... I held the test shot of the new Revell 70 Cuda last week at NNL East. I hope there's some re-visions as certain details are not right
17. Vintage workbench cover from a few years ago ..... hands down best.
18. I absolutely love watching scratch building made to look soooo easy! Some skills Ken, every post a lesson. Thank you for sharing. FWIW: Not saying I can do what Ken does, but watching what he does makes me attempt to try his techniques. If I fabricate a splendid alternator bracket, it most likely was inspired by something much more elaborate, such as building a body (!) from sheets of plastic the size of a coffee table. It just takes effort and desire once being shown. To quote the late Boyd Coddington: "Perfection is not impossible, it just takes longer to do" Thanks again Ken BTW: Those wire wheels are to die for .......
19. Wow! Sterile build! NICE job!
20. OK.... I'm finding out no-way will any of the stock 2nd. Gen Challenger frame, suspension, or interior will fit. No surprise here. Now I'm stuck in the dilemma of hacking down kit parts or make my own. The Revell Challenger suspension is very disappointing. I might be better off making my own chassis & interior, which brings me to this: Does Ross Gibson do the 3rd Gen Hemi? I have a $25 Challenger kit about to give up just its engine and not much else. I'm off today so I guess I should get some plastic and start building the frame.
21. Congratulations !!!!!!! Best to all!!!!
22. I saw Don & his work last Saturday @ NNL East. He definitely knows what he's doing. And I too have his DVD that I'll be reviewing soon. After last weekend I realized EVERYBODY can paint, or so it seems! Yeah, Don knows paint
23. There was a guy at Carlisle a few ago with a light Gold 64 Valiant with a turbo /6-4spd combo. Sweet doesn't begin to describe it.... I think I'm shopping for a nice sand/beige/tan/ecru shade of metallic/pearl/candy something for color with wheels #1. More to follow....
24. OK, now that we're having an ugly-Mopar hate fest it's time to get serious. I lucked out and copped a nice tip from a customer to make it worth my while to stop at the local Micheals at lunch. I was hoping to find something.... Found a 2009 Challenger that's going to be nothing more than an organ donor for the Lancer. The water pistol is for my un-ruley at times hound. From the looks of things, we might be scratching a frame from brass or plastic. No way the stock Challenger frame & suspension can be trimmed down enough. Might be easier to just use the suspension on a custom frame adjusted for track & wheelbase. This is all just table-top futzing around. I'm off Thursday so tomorrow night we can stay up late. Tonight I'm busy. But let me tell you, it's been a l-o-n-g time since I'll randomly think of a model I'm building during the day at work.
25. Yes I would do it.... Sorry, but odd things talk to me. I could never build a mainstream or a box stock kit. Not knocking it, but I like living vicariously through models. Almost as much fun, and a whole lot cheaper, than putting another one in the garage! BTW:I'm a fan of your work Ron. I'm sure you'll make those hideous little Valiants into works of art.
