Making progress. Engine bay build out waiting for final touches. Used the bay from an old '70 Boss 429 kit I had and added scratch built braces. The 429 CJ engine is waiting to go in -- got it out of a '70 Ford Torino kit. Will use a couple of other detail items from the Torino kit as well. Also opened the hood intakes and filled in the cowl vent. Next to Mach 1 is a 1967 Camaro with 396 that is also a WIP. This will be Buddy Repperton's Camaro from the movie Christine, before Christine destroyed it.

Fist completed build of 2021! Finished up Dick Tracy's 1936 Ford. Built to match the 1990 Dick Tracy movie car and be a counter part to my prior build of Breathless Mahoney's 1935 Auburn Speedster. Interior color matches the movie car (dark green). Engine color was inspired by the comic book colors throughout the movie. Enhancements were minimal and include plug wires and dual wiper blades. The lower body platform (wheel wells and side running boards) were warped out of the box so had to do some straightening. Some alignment issues remain but at least it sits with all 4 wheels on the ground now. Enjoy!

Interior build nearly complete . Still looking for the correct two spoke steering wheel. Added flocking for carpet, a hurst shifter, door locks and photo etch window cranks. Was considering the grab handles on the door panels but could get the look I wanted.

Nearly completed with the AMT 1936 Ford from the 1990 Dick Tracy movie. Interior colors here are to match the movie car. Engine color is to go along with the comic book color scheme present throughout the movie. Plug wires/distributor were my own custom add on. Just finishing up the details on the body. This will be a nice counterpart to the Breathless Mahoney Auburn Speedster I built previously. Photos coming soon to the Under Glass section....

Thanks for the comments! I finished this build a few months ago. Search the underglass section for 1984 Mustang GT posted on 11/8/2020 under my name. Some better photos there.

Neat article, thanks for posting! Not promising mine will look exactly like this but I will try. Anyone have the correct two spoke steering wheel (or a close match) for a 429 CJ engine for sale?
-
Wow, what a miserable kit this is! Looking to build the Mustang Mach 1 with 429 Cobra Jet engine as used in James Bond Diamonds are Forever. (Yes, I know several cars were used with different engines and such, but the 429 CJ is the coolest). Anyway, the newly released "007" kit last year by AMT is just a repackaging of the old kits. They did update the front end and have the correct wheel covers and decals, but that's all. Thin brittle red plastic, inaccurate details and parts, and TONS of flash and mold lines to clean up. So, not happy with the inconsistencies from the movie car, I'm diving into some kit bashing and alterations. Starting with the chassis/engine bay. Kit parts --- well let's not go there. I had an old Boss 429 build from 30+ years ago I decided to sacrifice. The front end of the chassis with steering components fits nicely and the engine bay is now a little closer to accurate. I will use the back portion of the kit chassis as it fits better than the Boss part. But will use the Boss exhaust and other bits. Will keep you posted.

To the flocking question, it was simply a gray flocking that was purchased through ETSY.

Building this kit now. What a disappointment! Aside from just being a reissue and horribly inaccurate to the screen car (wrong engine, wrong steering wheel, wrong exhaust, etc, etc), the molding detail is poor, the plastic is thin and brittle and there is more flash than a Flash Gordon triple feature!! They did get the hub caps right, and the front end was retooled, otherwise its just the same kit with new decals. Anyone have a 1971 two spoke Ford Mustang steering wheel they want to part with? This kit as the 3 spoke version.

Hi all, was careless and ended up putting a finger tip of glue on my installed windshield for a '36 Ford. At this point in the build removing the window is not an option, I'd have too much disassembly. Suggestions on how I might get most of this off leaving window in place? It was coated in Future first, so perhaps my 99% rubbing alcohol will take both layers off?? Its the Testors orange bottle glue... Thanks

Cool build! I pre-ordered my kit back in October --- still waiting for it to arrive!!

This is a Christmas present to my dear older brother. This is the '66 Pontiac GTO that he owned in high school...many years ago. A fun build with a few extras added. The kit is Revell's '66 GTO. The engine was made to be a '67 Pontiac 400 single 4bbl which he installed. Plug wires were added as was interior carpet and a few photo etch pieces. The kit rims were replaced with the Crager's he had. Headlights, tail lights and dash are all illuminated with LEDs. The vinyl roof and its chrome trim was added in by me. Paint is most flat black with the 3 "primer" spots that were present on the car. License plate is correct and done through PhotoShop. Rear bumper even has his high school parking permit sticker. Happy Holidays everyone!

This is a replica of the car I owned in the early 90s, a 1984 Ford Mustang GT. The build was a bit of a nightmare and included parts from multiple kits to get things as accurate as possible. Had some alignment and fit issues but overall happy with the outcome and moving from a WIP to Done. Base kit is the MPC 20th Anniversary Edition, with parts from the MPC Mustang SVO and a 1990 GT Convertible I had build years ago. Other parts were taken from the Monogram 1984 Mustang kit. Thanks to all who contributed parts from this forum! Decals are from Keith Marks, steering wheel is scratch built and I added carpet, seat belts, interior door lock knobs and some photo etch CDs in the interior (because it was the 90's). Engine is a resin 5.0 Liter from B-N-L Resin with distributor from Morgan Automotive.

Ever have one of those builds that just kicks you butt at every turn?! Well this was that build for me, but I'm calling it done (for now). I present the 1984 Mustang GT, a car I owned. A bit of a Frankenstein build, the base kit is the MPC 20th Anniversary Edition Mustang, with parts added from an old 1990 GT Convertible build I did years ago (engine accessories and fan shroud), the MPC Mustang SVO kit (clear windows, front lower grill with fog lights, exhaust pipe, rear deck spoiler, interior side panels), and the Monogram 1984 Mustang kit (exhaust twin tail pipe and dual snorkel air cleaner). I added flocking and '84 Mustang decals from Keith Marks. The engine is a resin Ford 5.0 from B-N-L Resin and distributor from Morgan Automotive Detail. Also added seat belts, door lock knobs and some photo etch CDs in the interior for fun. Despite sizing and alignment issues, messing up the first set of decals (my fault), painting, stripping and repainting, I think the end build is fairly accurate to the car I owned and not to bad of a build. Time to add the license plate and call this one done and move on...quick photos from my phone...enjoy!

Any update on when the James Bond kit might be available? I am about to start a build using various other kits but might wait if this is coming soon... Thanks

Sorry I don't know....

Thanks all! The car had minimal screen time, mostly parked at the curb or a few pull up scenes. No dramatic car chases unfortunately. But I'm a movie car builder and thought this would make for an interesting build and add a splash of color to my collection. Not sure where I'd find a roof for it either...

Here is a replica of Breathless Mahoney's (played by Madonna) ride from the 1990 Dick Tracy money. The kit base kit is the Lindberg Auburg Speedster Kit No 369, and the instructions identify it as a 1935 model. From there the build went complete off the books... First off the kit is not particularly pretty, with thick plastic, poor match up, incorrect proportions, minimal and shallow detail, and raised panel lines. Those were the first to go, sanding them off and then scribing all new lines. Then the modifications...the movie car is a George Barris invention so lots to address to make it screen accurate. Engine, the movie car held a Ford 351 Cleveland, the kit had the stock Auburn engine with a solid floor in the engine compartment, molded to look like the bottom of an engine from underneath. That was cut out and a resin 351 put in. The kit only had 3 side exhaust pipes all on the drivers side. I fashioned new side panels and added the 6 exhaust pipes. Small bits of styrene were added to create the 4 door hinges. Wide white wall tires were added to the kits wire rims and spinners were added. Front fog lights were added, they don't match exactly to the screen car but close enough for now. Interior dash was updated to reflect the movie car and carpet added in. All finish off in Krylon Rasberry paint! Not my best build but it certainly was a challenge and fun to work on. Hopefully Dick Tracy's 1936 Ford will be a better kit to work with when it gets to the build bench. Enjoy!

Looks great! I did the BTTF II Aoshima kit a few years back. Some pics posted here. What did you use for the main body color?

Thanks!

I've got a small windshield piece from an Auburn Speedster that I need to buff clear...its got some discoloration to it. Any recommendations on a good process to make clear parts clear again? Thanks!
-
Anyone have good process for replicating a vinyl top when the kit is not molded with that detail? Doing Revel's '66 GTO and need a vinyl top, but kit is totally smooth.... Thanks,

Finished today, the '77 Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. Additions include a CB mic and antenna, carpeting, seat belts, and movie accurate Trans Am emblems on the front fenders and rear spoiler. Overall this is a pretty detailed kit but its unfortunate these key items are missing. Thanks to Keith Mark's for having additional decals available.

Finally able to get back into the work office and get this one off my desk (thanks Covid). From Back To The Future II, its Doc Brown's flying Delorean! Lots of work on this one with .01mm fiber optics. The Flux Capacitor is 3 lights which flash in random sequence, fiber optics to the roof console and panel behind the drivers seat. LED for the dash gauges. Lots of fun to build! Makes a good pair with Biff's car. (Posted that one earlier.) This was the Aoshima kit.
