The upside of the hobby- What part or parts do you enjoy the most?
KMcc replied to James2's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Hands down, for me, the upside of this hobby is: NO DEADLINES. Between running a business, remodeling my house, and having other people that rely on me, model building has become the escape from the deadlines I've been dealing with for 35 years. Most of my family and friends do not even know I started back into the hobby that I first got into as a kid. Mostly because they wouldn't understand why. If I want to practice airbrushing, that's what I do. If I want to solid model a new wheel, that's what I do. I have many things to learn and get better at. This Forum also seems like therapy: "My name is Keith and I'm a Model-holic." I have learned so much in the last five years on this forum. I just wish I could get more than two or three hours a week at the bench. Thanks guys! -
Picked this 68 VW for $100 in 1977 with the idea it would make good college transportation. Put new fenders, tires, muffler, and heater boxes on it to get inspected. Also put an FM Converter in it to help make trips to school a little more comfortable. It finally died from cancer in 1982. Picked up a Revell "VW 60's Beetle" kit to make a replica that appears to be more work to get 'on the road' than the real one did.

Torq Thrust on most 60's muscle But this and this I always thought looked good on camaros and corvettes in the 70's

Dennis, Wow! Guess we will call that an 'E' for effort. HA HA HA! -
New Help for 3D Printing: MESHY AI (works now)

I just thought it was noteworthy enough to show were all this technology seems to be heading. Having read 'sci-fi' books in the early 70's, I never thought I'd see drones flying around during my lifetime, but here we are. Seems AI is here to stay. Might as well embrace what it can offer. Cheers. -

The primary types of bankruptcy in the U.S. are Chapter 7 (liquidation), Chapter 11 (reorganization, primarily for businesses), Chapter 13 (repayment plan for individuals), Chapter 12 (for family farmers and fishermen), Chapter 9 (for municipalities), and Chapter 15 (for international cases). -
My lord! I admire your work very much. My only criticism would be of my own inability to create such stunning works of art. Congratulations on your award.

OK, this one HAS to be vintage. -

Does 28 years count as vintage? -
Mmmmm... I guess my model building resolution should be to focus more on one project until it gets done. When I ran my business, I found that model building was an activity that didn't have deadlines. I would just build out of box and be happy, Build got done when it got done. After lurking on forums and drooling over builds with specific subject matter, I decided that this was the direction I wanted to take things (thanks guys!). Now I do research to make sure to get things right and decided to get into 3D printing so I could make wheels and parts that I can't find in the aftermarket. So, my nonchalant attitude, coupled with my solid modeling and 3D printing needs, has me in the middle of multiple builds that seem to all be in suspended animation. Focus, focus. Going to make a list and prioritize. Hopefully I'll get something finished.

Stuffing a turkey with jalapeƱos before frying?
KMcc replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My wife and I have been deep frying turkeys for 30 years. My advice is to purchase an injector kit and pump liquid into the turkey. If you put the peppers in the bird cavity and deep fry it, you'll end up with a bunch of fried peppers floating in the oil that you have to fish out, and the turkey will not be seasoned. Injector kits usually come with a jar of injection, usually a cajun mix, which is generally spicy. Google 'Turkey injection recipes with jalapenos' and you'll find something that peaks your interest. It is similar to french fries: golden on the outside and fluffy inside. When you drop the bird in the oil, the outside will seal the injection inside the bird and saturate the meat with the injection while it cooks. Make sure that bird is thawed!!! You do not want to introduce water into the hot oil. That is what happened on all those videos you see where people burn their house down. We use peanut oil because it has a higher flash point, and I keep the temperature of the oil around 350Deg to 400Deg. It is also a very good idea to put the turkey in the empty pot and fill with water to an inch above the turkey, remove the turkey and put a scratch on the pot at water level and only put oil in up to the scratch. This will also prevent an 'oil boil over'. Heat oil to 400Deg, when you drop the turkey, the temp. will drop, but should recover to 350Deg after 10 minutes. If not, turn up heat. Watch the turkey the whole time it is in the oil making adjustments to the heat to keep it in the temp. range. Using three minutes per pound, I lift turkey and check the temp. in a breast to see how close it is. The outside will be dark brown. Happy Thanksgiving! One more thing: If your fryer is the flame type, do yourself a favor and coat the outside bottom half of the pot with liquid dish soap. This will allow you to clean the black soot off the pot with ease.
