  1. I do like a bit of chrome and I love the artwork on the box showing the engine. I might paint it up to look the same, except for chrome exhaust manifolds, that's just ridiculous, Lol.
  2. Nice looking kit. Lovely build there and really nice colour.
  3. Nice collection of vintage Mustang kits. I seen this on ebay here, it's the only one listed and at nearly £55! I don't think I'll be building any AMT versions!
  4. Thanks man. I was reading through a thread somewhere on here the other day about the MPC and AMT Mustangs. They both seem to have their pros and cons. I'm just glad it's MPC that still survives and not Palmer, Lol! I would like to build the AMT version if I ever find one. Thanks mate. It was fun build with no headaches
  5. It is odd. Chrome exhaust manifolds would look fancy on any engine but they wouldn't stay chrome for long, haha. The primer I use sticks well to chrome so I don't bother removing it, only the parting lines and any flash. I do scrape the chrome off where glue needs to be though.
  6. Another year, another BRBO! A bit of research and watching some build videos on this kit shows it has some issues I'll have to deal with, mainly the cab sitting too high, but overall seems to be a very good kit. Not sure what look I'm going for yet, probably the ATL box stock to go with the Fruehauf trailer I built last year, but you never know! Just some clean up and sub assembly happening at the moment. I'm looking forward to problem solving the cab's height issue, I love stuff like that, Lol.
  7. Thanks, Ray. Thanks, James. haha, cheers man.
  8. Yeah, I have read the engines are incorrect for the '73. I just put the biggest one of the two that came in the kit, lol.
  9. This kit has an extremely basic chassis with no under hood detail. I scratch built some inner fenders and added a few extra parts like heater hoses and shock tower braces. Wheels are from my spares stash and the decals are a mix of chopped up Mercury Cyclone and '68 Mustang. Not a bad kit, this is an original annual from 1973 with some cool extras you won't see again, like a "Street is Neat" belt buckle and a prize entry where you can win a couple of Rupp motorcycles and even a Custom Chevy wagon!
  10. Couple more details I added before I put this in underglass. The hood looked like it needed something so I just painted the trim edge the same body colour which made a huge difference! Also added some decals to the rear panel from the Revell '68 Mustang, I think they were the side decals for the '68.
  11. Another one in the bag! I can't say that this kit is bad cos it's not, it's just basic and lacking chassis detail, and interior mirror, and rad hoses, and correct decals, and... you get the point, Lol. I'll post more pics in completed section in the morning.
  12. Got the braces fitted, also made a top rad hose and fitted some heater pipes made out of some headers.
  13. Made the suspension tower braces. Keeping with MPC tradition they're not accurate, more a close representation, Lol!
  14. I gouged out the area on the hood that was giving me trouble and filled it with body filler, sanded smooth and that seems to have fixed it. I think it was the brake cleaner I used to strip the paint, it had seeped under a crack in the filler and got trapped is my guess. I tried masking the hood but I just can't get the shape right freehand so I'm leaving it flat black.
  15. Thanks guys. Those are nice builds there! I might try and mask the hood but at this point I just want to get it done cos I'm still getting that weird line showing through. I'm going to completely gouge out that area and replace it with some styrene, if that fails I'm going to put this build on hold and call it a day.
  16. The hood is really starting to pee me off now. There is this crack like line that keeps appearing where paint wont stick. I've tried everything, from brake cleaner, paint thinners, filler primer and body filler yet this line keeps coming through.
  17. The more I looked at the hood decals the more I hated them, they just didn't look right so I decided to strip it. I don't have any hood decals big enough or the right shape to use so I'll just paint it flat black and call it done. I'm actually glad the body decals fell apart now cos I wasn't keen on them to start with, they just looked wrong, I'd probably be stripping the whole car now if they survived!
  18. Got my mix of decals on. Very basic and bland stripes but it's all I had to work with, better than nothing I guess.
  19. Thanks James.
  20. As predicted, the side decals got destroyed from trying to remove them from the backing paper, they stuck to my fingers just fine though, Lol. Looking through my spare decal sheets I might be able to make something up using some side stripes from the Revell '68 Mustang, the AMT '66 Ford Fairlane, and the AMT '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone, what a mix! I have tried searching for decals but nothing available in the UK, so again it's make do and mend when it comes to kit building here.
  21. Yeah, they destroyed a lot of cars that would otherwise have survived. Not sure about the Mustang but there were companies that would do aftermarket vinyl roofs for any car back then. I have old car magazines from the 70's that advertise the service, one showing a picture of an E-Type Jaguar of all cars! Lol
  22. Yep. Vinyl roofs, especially on fastbacks are an acquired taste. I actually quite like them, always have.
  23. This is the inspiration for this car. I'd love to have made it look exactly like it, but unfortunately it doesn't come with any Mach 1 decals. Pretty gutted really cos I'm super happy with how good it has turned out to look, only to slap on some absolutely rubbish decals. Even if they were fresh they look kind of half arsed.
  24. Yeah, Slot Mags are more original and I'm still leaning toward those. I did try wire wheels too from my spares and it still looked good, haha.
