hey nick, a '49 merc ( the definition of a pig ) needs a ford motor and something bigger than a 4 cylinder. how about a 710hp cosworth v8. i have one from the amt march 88c. the block, heads and front cover are assembled and painted. all the other parts are there on the trees. here is the kicker, the motor is already attached to a ford top-loader. you can have the kit, minus wheels and tires, if you want. also, is the Laguna kit the amt reissue? i ask because, i have an extra Revell tabasco grand prix i could send you. again, no tires or decals. ( has a lot better detail. ) let me know. man, i think i am help starting a franchise. jay: i have a bunch of different pigs started, i just need to get off my butt and finish them. it would also help to stop starting new ones..

oops, sorry about that scott. i had just finished talking to a work collegue, on the phone, when i started typing that reply. guess what his name is? yes, that is right, dave. will not happen again. you could put a lot of detail in a 20th scale car. and with your patience and attention to detail ( a cogged belt cut from a zip tie !!!!!!!!), it would truely be a masterpiece. i want to be informed when you start, friend. hey nick, i did not know blue was your favorite color. you should really let us know these things. now start on that '49 pig. speaking of pigs, my workbench is from now on known as the pig farm. oink, oink. hey bernard, ol Pete Brock would be pleased, huh? thanks man.

david, you make the rest of us mere mortals, on this forum, want to quit and take up crocheting. awesome, awesome, awesome work. your devotion to the subject is truly amazing. did those hold down clasps come with the kit or did you make them? we're not worthy.

sorry guys for the lapse. something very bad happened to this pig, while painting it the first time. again thanks for the cool comments and contributions. scott: the more i look at that tyrell mustang, the more i think that really needs to be done. very cool concept. anyway, my first attempt at painting resulted in massive cracks thru both filler primer and primer layers, right down to the plastic. both primers are from dupli color. the hood however, turned out just fine. same supplies and proceedures. sometimes i just do not get chemicals. they have a mind of there own. so into the alcohol bath it went and stayed there until it could prove that it wanted to be painted. BAD PIG! so this is the second paint job. i used Testors de ja blue "one coat". beautiful color. a little darker than i had originally envisioned. but i think it looks awesome with the red and white. i really like this angle. very aggressive. a classic ready to kill some curves. oink, oink. a lot of detail still to do but it is getting there. the motor is coming together also. i have to finish up the cooling system, oil recovery system, shrouding for the radiator and the air box. thanks for looking and hope you like it.

Giro d' Italia 1979
fordsixty replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
nick, i beleive that is a Fiat Ritmo. this little guy here. cool videos. keep them coming. -
hey scott, we are on the same sheet of music. a real nice fleetline you got there. i like the rear fenders with the stone guards. only thing missing is a rear wing, some sponsorship and head to the races. cool stuff. maybe you should put it "under glass" so we could see more. started masking and painting my latest pig. using Testors deja blue. beautiful color. hope to have pictures this weekend. hey gary, that is funny, my aunt had a 4 door '54 when i was a kid.

well, my sentimental favorite would actually be two. both are from my childhood days in the 70s: the first would be Tom Daniel's "Ice T". i really liked the monogram kits by Tom ( loved the box art ) but the Ice T was different. when i finished it, ( did not paint it ) it just looked great from all angles. the plastic was a beautiful, shiny yellow, the chrome was perfect ( even the two tanks behind the front wheels ) and then there was the melting ice blocks in the back with the ice tongs. as a kid, i would stare at it and let my imagination run. i think it was the first car that was not destroyed, on purpose, by me or my brother. my second would be the 1/16th Revellution. my brother actually got the model, i just helped him build it ( he was three years younger than me and really needed my help ). when we opened that box and saw those real rubber slicks, we had died and gone to heaven. we were going to build a model with "real" tires and rubber hoses. oh, it just could not get any better than that. the model turned out ok, but it was those slicks that did it. anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane.

it is cool hearing everyone's comments. Jay; i really appreciate the observation. coming from someone with your talent and style is great. John; i like the way you think. how about a hudson with a big turbo, flat head six in greenback green with white stripes? i see that working. George; your current prescription is working just fine. Nick; how about a picture of that '49? and you think this would be a good race, huh? naw, the '31 is not finished yet. headlights, taillight, interior,.... i will probably start on her next week. i need them both done by next month. show season starts and i did not get a lot built ( read nothing ). really want to put something new on the tables. and no, they are not show queens; too rough.

thanks for the nice words. i never know if my wacky ideas will be accepted or not. as far as the lousy kit goes, the body has flaws but it is workable. the body is the best part of the kit and that, along with the windows, is usually all i need. for the flares, i form the shape with .020 x .020 square evergreen ( yeaaa, evergreen ) and fill with .040 sheet. i use the thick stuff so i can round the corners. once the glue dries, i fill with evercoat metal glaze. it is so smooth and very workable. sand and coat with filler primer. the front ones were the hardest. hope this helps. again thanks guys. i will keep you posted.

well, i ran into a problem with my thunderbird pig. the chassis was moving along; however, i just cannot see how the front end should look like. i want it to still retain that '69 look but with a massive front spoiler and splitter. it will come to me, just not yet. sooooo..... this kit somehow knew i was stuck and just called out, "BUILD ME" (little house of horrors) so i pulled it off the shelf and started contemplating a look and a plan. i knew it had to be a road racing pig but what. something simple ( i did not want another big scratchbuilding project ). i looked at my other kits for ideas. VIOLA. a Monogram 1/24th NASCAR thunderbird. i pulled the chassis out and by cutting a quarter of an inch off the back and the frame horns off the front, it fit perfectly. exact wheelbase and track. so i started. that little spoiler will be cleaned up and braces added. it will be the support for a clear spoiler that will be alot taller. a little wild but i think it still works. i had originally planned on using a 60 degree little chevy V6 out of an ASA Camaro. my brother suggested a BIG BLOCK V6. i thought about it, perfect. i sectioned two cylinders from the motor out of the '66 pro street Chevelle. made the valve covers, intake, headers, water pump, and other little items and tah-dah..... a 440 cubic inch V6. ( a 572 minus two cylinders ) here is underneath. got the exhaust done today. most of the bottom will be covered by carbon fiber panels and diffuser. still needs a little detail but it is getting there. so what do you guys think? oh yeah, i was going to paint it in Gulf colors but now i have a whole new idea. i want to paint it grand sport blue with white stripes and red pinstriping. reason being, i like this car so much that i have decided to build a '54 ford ( white with blue stripes, like a GT 350 ) and an early 50s dodge ( red with white stripe ). see the connection? big three, red, white and blue. should be cool. anyway, hope you like it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK
fordsixty replied to Lyle Willits's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NICK. hope it was a good one. -
yes i think they will. check this out. i just found Lexus' entry. i think it is going to be a great season for sedan racing. real advertizement for the manufactures. as Darryl Waltrip says, "boogity, boogity, boogity boys. let's go racing."
-
well, with racing season getting ready to start, some manufactures are looking like they are going to still go racing despite the current economic woes. i do not know if you guys have seen BMWs entry or not, check this out. is that thing cool or what? hey tamiya, you need to sell this kit. i would buy a bunch. also, i believe i have found Mercedes enty into GT2....

i saw this car at the frankfurt model car show about two years ago. outstanding build along with your other cars. the Germans have a very good grasp and keen eye for American iron. ein sehr schoenes auto. erst klasse. please post more.

WOW! what a great pictorial. just some really great builds. thanks for the thread. as for me, this would be my, current, favorite picture.... -
first, Happy New Year to everyone. i hope it is filled with successful building and great painting for you all. i probably will not start anything new this year. i have too many started projects already. 1. finish '69 thunderbird gr 5 2. finish '31 model A time attack 3. finish '53 chevy road racer 4. ... s14 pro street 5. ... century stretch limo this might be over doing it; however, i will do my best.

Searching for a detailed 80's big block
fordsixty replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
that is a really nice looking big block, michael; however, the valve covers are on upside down. three bolts on top and four on bottom. good looking motor though. -
WOW! a really nice collection there. i have a real sweet tooth for road racers and your builds hit the spot. love the 80's colors and graphics, nice touch. one thing though, with the speed that the GT2 is capable of, i believe some brakes would make it a lot less scarier to drive. thanks for sharing.

hey kevin, nothing but encouragement here. afterall, it is a model car. that is the single common denominator that binds us all. build on and model up. your wagon has a real nice start. nice two tone. are you planning on tubbing it. if so, you should research troy trepanier's first pro street build, a 1960 impala. a very good example. it set the pro street world on a completely different direction.

no problem steve. thanks for the info and the quick response i am surfing ebay now. of course, if any one out there has one, i will be happy to trade or buy. let me know.
-
i agree whole-heartedly. depending on the boost, 1200 hp should make this a "real hand full". hey nick. if you do not mind, i would like to put you as the driver. that is if you are old enough for a brewery sponsored racer. no new updates. will start on the chassis this weekend. the chassis will have the lower rocker panels installed. that is why the body looks so naked right now. the rockers will be housing the turbos and the intercoolers behind the front tires. that is the plan anyway. you know what they say the best laid plans... hey nate, are you going to be at next month's meeting?
-
hey thanks, george. i am glad you get it. no, the motor will not be a four cylinder. it will be the ford racing dual overhead cam, destroked 289 based, windsor V8. since it is based on the small block windsor, i can use a World Product aluminum 351W block and poke and stroke it to 460 cubes. this with dual turbos should move this pig into the 200s. hey steve, thanks for the info. i checked your build of the olsonite eagle and it looks like you used the wedge head motor. am i correct? if i am, you would not happen to have the four cam available, (wink, wink) that i could some how pry out of your hands, would you? again, thanks guys.

recently, i had been hit with the builder's block, no desire. i am sure alot of you know where i am coming from... at a recent show, i bought 10 kits of various styles. then it hit me. was i going to become a collector? no! time to start building. i bought the allison thunderland, i really like the syle of the '67-'69 blunderbirds, with no real intentions. the more i studied the body, the more the bug hit me. i could see the end result in my mind. i thought, i am doing it. so...another out-of-left-field road racer. i started a little over a week ago and this is where it is at. here, you can really see the shape it has taken. i like this perspective. curves like a woman. BMW inspired roof wing. underneath that hood bulge, i am planning on a dual turbocharged, indy four-cam ford. can someone suggest a good donor kit with the 255 ci motor. i would greatly appreciate the info. if i cannot find one, i will try and scratch one together. anyway, thanks for looking. as always any comments or suggestions welcome. what do you think, Nick?
