finally finished. If I had to do it over again, I would have taken better care to get the engine to sit correctly in the frame. Installing the exhaust proved to be a nightie. I also managed to break off the tab for the fuel line under the gas tank to the carb so I left that off. I did manage to install (without messing up) the throttle cable that I made from some old phone wire. I'm leaving off the license plate for now as it seems to mess up the flow of the look . I took the velocity stack from 1/25 dual quad setup from an old Challenger T/A chrome tree. And the round gas cap was an air cleaner that I don't remember where from.

Revell Big Game Country GMC.

Remember, if you want the Ground Hawgs to line up correctly, you can use the wheels from the AMT 1984 GMC pickup or the MPC Deserter 1984 GMC pickup (still readily available). -
Wow. that's quite an undertaking. this project looks like its going to be a real nice one. Love the old sportsters I still have mine (although, '86 isn't that old) . A friend had a mid 70s sportster that was similar to this one with the brake pedal and shift leaver that were reverse on some of these years for some reason. He used to tell me "your brake and shifter are on the wrong sides" . I was always like "how do you even ride that thing?". That sportster tank is iconic. just an all out great looking bike from the K model to today. Beautiful work!?

I threw in tons of goodies too. As I understand, those full nos quarters were worth quite a bit. Also threw in a reproduction Judge rear spoiler, another 5, 15in. Rally 2s and that that entire '71 LeMans . When I found what was left of the build sheet, I saw that it said man under the transmission. I was told by the previous owner that the original owner had swapped out the manual trans for the turbo 400 that was in it now. ?

Revell Big Game Country GMC.

I bought a second kit just for the tires and suspension parts. They went on sale for 40% off at hobby lobby. I even wound up using the body because the simple green I used to strip the paint wouldn't work. I suspect because it was lemon scented. It's all they had left. -
Thanks. I saw the glitter paint and thought, that's the perfect paint for that 60s look. It was obvious that I would have to pile on so much paint and clear that it would end up looking like some bad Christmas ornament or something. I had to go with the solo seat. I cut it down leaving a little tab that I could heat then bend and l even made a p pad that I haven't decided to put on yet. I added some grey paint dots to emulate the rocker bolts on the valve covers. They should have molded those in.

I also shortened the handlebars by 3 or 4 mm or so. I painted the plug boots in red to give it a nice contrast with the gold. I figure I can easily change it if I don't like it. Plumbing this thing is more difficult than I anticipated. ?

I found some old phone wire and fashioned a throttle cable. I saw on YouTube where someone used shrink tubing on their grips. And installed some more goodies.

Revell Big Game Country GMC.

Thanks Bob. I used a Tamiya clear smoke to tint the rear window but I don't know if I would recommend it. I used regular automotive film with better results before. I was going to put in the gun rack but it looked like I would get glue haze all over the window so I left it out. That 30. 06 needs a scope anyway. I also used the later model mirrors from the other GMC truck. -
Thanks Rob. I was going to go with some bigger metalflake but after I tested it first on an empty tree, I just couldn't get it to look right. It looked like silver flake and clear. The gold didn't seem to come through. I wound up using Testors Extreme Lacquer, Aztec gold in a rattle can, with the same clear . After having had good results with the brown on the GMC truck. It's as close as I could get to metalflake from the 60s. I would up doing a lot of filler work and sanding on the 2 frame halves. I used a Rust-Oleum chrome look rattle can for the forks and corresponding tree. The Revell freedom chopper has this in chrome. It's almost finished so more pics to come..........

Thats how I bought it some 13 years ago. trailered it back from Baltimore. Had Tri-Power setup on it but the 4 bbl manifold was in the trunk. the roof was a little rusty. the previous owner tried to hide it under a non original vinyl top but it did come with both full GM quarters. I also threw in a '71 LeMans parts car. Have some picks on my phone that I can post when I get around to it. i

Thanks guys. Despite my many years doing this, I never reached the level as a lot of you have. I see alot of work that blows me away. I'm quit good at messing up paint and breaking alot of perfectly good parts. ? I'm certain that I can learn a lot of useful tips from all of you Thanks .
